List Mgmt. Pick 9

Cheers I just read the article how Melbourne are looking at Jackson for pick three. Means he has to go at 8 unless like you said they are lying. Unless Adelaid takes him at 4 I think Freo will go for Stephens at pick 8 in the draft as outside midfield run and carry is our biggest need by far. That could all mean that Ash might yet slip to your pick.
Freo will likely have to match the bid for Henry by Melbourne at pick#8, so Stephens will slide to #9 or 10 along with Kemp.

I very much doubt Melbourne will bid for Henry at 8.But what Im saying is we will use pick 7 currently to get Stephens as we have a pick before melbourne. With the Green bid certain in the first few picks then the Melborne pick will be at 9. It would be a huge turn of events for Henry to have a bid that early. In the late drafts no one has Henry going before 12. It seems a media beat up based on nothing that he would go as early as 8.

You may be correct....although Melbourne are desperate for a quality small forward. There's a good chance they'll bid for Henry at pick #8 as a hail mary, but knowing that it'll be matched, potentially will pick Weightman who they have been linked to.

Will be fascinating on draft night though.

Wouldn’t be shocked to see you take Ash. Could just as easily end up a wingman as a defender. Fits your requirements for line breaking run perfectly.

Henry is a terrific footballer. Cleanest hands in the draft. Maybe best awareness too. Skills up to 45m as good as anyone. Has show he can take his turn in midfield. I wouldn’t at all be surprised to see a bid on him in the top 10.

Im a freo fan so this is an outsiders perspective. Looking at the draft it looks like you'll take the pick at pick ten after the Green bid. Anyone of Stephens, Jackson, Kemp or Roberton would be great picks. Personally think you should go for Jackson. His finish to the year was ridiculously good at Colts. Dominated like few others have in recent times. People forget he has only last year dedicated himself to football. His reactions at the contest and footy nous around the ground are really impressive considering he probably spent more time practicing and playing basketball in his teenage years up until this season. He could very well be the long-term Kreuzer replacement to knock the ball down to Walsh, Cripps, SPS and Dow. Has a giant leap and great movement. Really think he is the perfect option in terms of your long term list management. The chance to grab a talented young ruck might not come around for a while.

For all the grief the media gave you at the trade period you've ended up doing brilliantly. People forget you've already used a 2019 draft pick with a 2018 third rounder to get Setterfield on the list and also acquired Liam Stocker in a trade for only a five pick downgrade in 2019 draft. If you add Martin in the preseason draft (seems a certainty) then effectively you'e added Newnes, Setterfield (with a 2018 third rounder) , Martin and Stocker while still having pick 9 to use. While Eddie Betts should add a ton of leadership for only a late 2020 pick. if Docherty comes back like he should then thats a massive effective talent upgrade to your list for season 2020. Actually think it could be one of your best ever trade periods to be honest.
Appreciate the summary Sheriff. But it reads a lot like a ‘please don’t bid on Henry’ post. Why wouldn’t you take Jackson? We don’t bid on Henry at 10 then you take Robertson at 11 and then get Henry real cheap.

^^ if MEL don’t bid on Henry, we will. Both teams have nothing to lose bidding on him. Henry is by far the best SF in this draft. Serong is then a great consolation prize for either team.

Is Henry a small forward though? YouTube shows me he’s getting his possies all over the ground with a lot in the backline

Fox has written that GCFC hadn’t actually offered a contract to JM this year (maybe a carry over from last year..), which if it was the case, would lend him to a DFA situation.

“ Gold Coast has the first pick of the pre-season draft but is unlikely to select Martin, considering the club hasn’t put a new contract in front of him all year”

Suns: No way will we delist you Jack. But if you decide to stay don’t expect us to pay you next year!

I think if you’re after a pure small forward you’re better off with Weightman. Henry is small and plays forward but he’s better as the deliverer into 50 by playing on a wing or flank IMO.

Not that I don’t think a Henry is the much better talent but I don’t think he’s the traditional ‘small forward’ like a Betts or Ballantyne

Still hearing that it's Kemp we want at this pick.
If that is indeed the case and if Kemp does look likely to get to us, then there may be no swaps for the #9 until at least we get to it on the night of the draft.

There's a lot to take in when holding a pick in and around that top ten, given live trading.
We didn't see much of it last year but as List Managers become more adept in dealing on the run, the fireworks could really begin.

EDIT: If we are to be dealing with GC we should be ready for another Coch-block.

The downside to a live trade surely is that 8 or 9 guys are off the table at the time we'd be doing it, potentially including the key targets of GC, so their appetite may be diminished.

Not at all. It wasn't for us last year at #19 and things will only heat up this year.
Live trading combined with future trading allows a lot of possibilities come draft night.

It's about the player you rate being in a position you thought unlikely and there's no reason it won't spill into second and maybe even third rounds this year.

Based on media from AFL.com.au or separate sources?

Early on he’ll play forward to get his feel and his skills will make him ‘very handy’ at SF.
Love how FRE supporters don’t want us talking up Henry. We gotta bid on him.

Just heard from a so-called media expert that FRE are looking at Robertson at 7/8 and ADE looking at Stephens at 4.

If we rate Henry as the best available at our pick then we will bid, if not then we won’t. You don’t stuff around with a top 10 pick, you need to be prepared to take any player you bid on. It’s all good and well to discuss pick trading but ultimately it comes down to who is available at your pick.

If we do in fact rate Kemp at 3 and he is available at pick 9, there is no way we are doing anything other than select him.
