LM makes a good point about Simmo and Doc, butd I would have taken Kemp.

If I am being honest, not sure I want the knee risk with Kemp. I think Ash was a better option before his knee injury, let alone after the injury.
The other options I would not mind considerimg Robertson, Maginess and Henry.

#9 and 2020 2nd to GCS for #15, #20 and 2020 compo (11)
#15 I traded to PA for #18 and #29.

We have #18, #20, #29, #43 (and 2 x 2020 1sts)

#18 - Dylan Williams
#20 - Cooper Stephens
#29 - Elijah Taylor
#43 - Nick Bryan

Ash was a terrific selection. He would make a massive difference to us. I’m to be sold on Kemp. He’s a good half forward third tall prospect. He’s a long way short of convincing on ball. And he’s done a knee. Ash comfortably in front for mine.

After window's calls re: Walsh, I'm taking more notice of your posts

PS

Tom Green. IS the best player in this draft. I am yet to see the bloke fumble. He hits targets 15m away with handballs lie Cripps does. I think he actually IS Cripps. As in clone. Amazing player.

If he was a Blue or any chance to be I would be going OFF about him. Not quite ‘Walsh style’ but in the same post code.

GUUUNNNNNN

I actually watch full games now. I’ve been burnt by Browne and Laverde and will never go back to relying on highlights. Never again.
Laverde was an example of a player I did not like but BF hype is hard to ignore. The more you watch juniors, you learn to stick to your guns a little more.

I am still terrible about knowing where to rank tall players.

Miles Bergman. Hype player. He’s entitled to get more of it than he does. He plays plenty on the wing. He doesn’t get it because he has poor hands. Fumbles. Do not like him. Would be shocked if he doesn’t

What’s the go with Dylan Williams? Is his year to be ignored? Slight trend improvement on last year would have him top 5. Is it just the back that made a mess of him? What do you see?

Where you at on Pickett?
I'm not super high on him, a one position player that is very short does not float my boat. I've not seen him show a huge tank as well, so he would take a while to get a game.
There are a number of options late in the draft I'd throw a pick at instead of going early on Pickett.

I am not high on Gould like some of you it seems, I think Ash has him covered on so many levels other than body mass.

Gould could easily go the way of Kieran Collins.
I recall plenty on here wanted us to take Schache with the #1 and Collins with our next pick in '15. Imagine that.

We say this often as if it's a bad thing.
Can't recall how many times we've taken someone that played a position and was touted as being able to play other positions later, for that never to eventuate.
We even picked Weitering with the vision of him capable of going forward and I still think he can but that boat sails past pretty quick.

If someone does something well, that's what they should be judged on and not this need to turn them into midfielders later on.....still waiting for Eddie Betts to become a midfielder. Maybe next year :)

You cannot have too many Betts styled players. Betts is also a rare talent.

You can't have too many of anything......well you can, but it will cost you.
We had too many KPD's a couple of years ago and it cost us development.

It's not about Betts and for all the excitement of having a multi-positional player, the best course is most often one of leaving the player where they play best and fill your needs with the types required.
I've seen enough failures of this 'we'll turn him into that' for now.
You want a small forward...get a small forward. A midfielder....get a midfielder. A KPF....get a KPF......although.....A KPD....A failed KPF is OK. :)

Yeah.. Jones had become one of my favourite players... And I am hoping we keep #9. Quality not quantity... However, trust List Management team. What they have done in getting a core group of young players is far beyond what I could have imagined 4 years ago....

I'm happy for the talent we've assembled and my remark about turning failed forwards into defenders has been somewhat the case for much longer than Jones became a hit for us. It's just one of those things that can often work out and there are good reasons for that....but let's not again look at half-back flankers and see them as mids. That 'program' has to be put to bed.

I wonder if Essendon had their time again they'd be taking McGrath ahead of Taranto or McCluggage? Probably not right?
They didn't look at what they needed most and sooner took on a HBF'er with the view of making him a mid, when they already had a surplus of these small midfielders. Made little sense then and makes a lot less now.

Hope we don’t read to much into what a player may become this year. Just ‘what they’ve done with reasonable expected improvements’ will do me. No great leaps of faith.

Let’s look at Serong. Does ‘ok’ as a forward. At U18 level. When he’s way stronger than his opponents. The more I think about it the more I doubt he does much as a forward in AFL. He hasn’t kicked huge amounts of goals in U18. Maybe 15 a year would be a really good effort. Just don’t over state what he will do. He’s not fast enough to put huge pressure on. He is likely to be an accumulator inside mid at AFl level. That’s what he’s done consistently. Draft him for that. Not this “can go forward” stuff people like Twomey go on about.

Kreuzer is another example. We drafted him as a ruck ‘who Could go forward’. We had huge debate on here at the time. He was kicking 2 goals a week against kids. Just bigger than his defender. Was never going to translate and didn’t.

Flanders will translate as a genuine forward. He’s explosive. Serong will not.

If I am being honest, not sure I want the knee risk with Kemp. I think Ash was a better option before his knee injury, let alone after the injury.
The other options I would not mind considerimg Robertson, Maginess and Henry.
Robertson reminds me too much of Ed Curnow with the way he plays, no disrespect to Ed as I love him but you wouldn’t have him kicking to save your life, same goes with Robertson gets plenty of the ball does the team things really well, but, and that but is the problem, same curly hair same sun tan all he needs is Ed’s facial expressions to be the complete package.

Fair call mate.
