List Mgmt. Pick 9

I’ll admit that I’m not a guru when it comes to the draft and I haven’t followed the players as closely as previous years (as I was under the assumption we’d be moving on Pick 9)... but I just don’t get the love for Flanders.

Somebody change my mind, quickly.

He’s quicker than he looks. He can actually lead out and leap and mark the ball in front of his eyes from full forward. He’s very good below his knees. He can take games over in midfield. You don’t need to worry about him anyway because there’s not a snow flakes hope in hell a game changer like him gets to 9/10.

Sounds like a good prospect- clearly I had him all wrong.

I was thinking he was just a Blaine Johnson that can go through the middle.

Nothing too specific actually.
It's a quality vs quantity equation.
I lean towards quality, but they must also have a point of difference.

I think of it like this:
Option 1. Stephens vs rivers & d. Williams/ e. Taylor
Or
Option 2. Robertson vs rivers & d. Williams/ e. Taylor

I'll be ok with option 1 & will take quality, but dont like option 2 & therefore will trade for 2 picks

OK. Granted there is some confirmation bias involved here, but I warm to this line of thinking -

Quality over quantity? - Yes sure.
Having a point of difference? - Sort of pretty important given where we currently sit.
Weighing up the options, dependant on who may fall at #9? - Critical and any simple formula can be ignoring the bigger picture.

Like what you've put forward JD. It's interesting.

Won't be me changing your mind. I don't see it either. I see more chance of a Brad Ebert 200 gamer than a Robbie Grey/Travis Boak 200 gamer. I have him around 10 in this draft and probably back end 1st Rd in last years.

While I’m at it with the rudimentary questions:

Can somebody point out the key differences in ability between Pickett and Taylor?
Taylor has reasonable size, Pickett is a dwarf. Both have great factor and ‘speed’ (if not 20m pace). Hard to see Pickett play anywhere but FP. Taylor could play up the ground. I think Pickett has better hands and better intensity. Neither get much of the ball although that’s a function of position I think. Taylor got a fair bit of it at Colts level. Pickett seems a natural goal kicker.

For me Pickett is still quite rhe risk due to his size. Taylor is 188 and seems to be filling out. I have him ahead.

If Roberston makes it to 14 I'll eat a shoe, but yes I agree with what you're saying for the most part.

And I’ll eat the other....I’m struggling to understand the lack of love for Robertson by many of our posters!!!
We would be lucky to see him at 9

I'd love to select Kemp on his potential alone.

His point of difference from what I can tell is his burst of speed (which may be a question mark following his ACL), and his versatility to play across the ground.

Having said that, I would really like to try and get another pick somewhere between 18-22 to be in the range to take a dynamic type of player like Pickett (get in before Adelaide).

Hawthorn have said they won't match a bid on Maginness. I thought some here rated him top 10?

Games.

Trying to avoid having a club force their hand earlier than they'd like.

I suppose there's also the chance they've spoken to the kid and said if he goes inside the top 10 they won't be able to match the bid, but will happily trade him in after his draft contract. Would be a risk though.

Hawks are ruthless and they would be the last club to play games with on bidding, only have to look at last year when they didn’t match the bid for their NGA lad Mosquito when Essendon bid for him at 38.

My advice - only bid early on Finn if you really want him, because Hawks won’t think twice about bypassing him if others are in front of him on their board.

Port have 18. Might need 17 from Geelong, or target someone else.

.... SOS?

I like Deven Roberton, I reckon he will be a Worpel like player.
Yeh I would be very happy with him. The sort of player who just goes and goes and goes, finals type player imo. To be honest I would be happy with anyone in that group who might be available at our pick. The only one who worries me abit is Kemp and he has the highest ceiling.
