List Mgmt. Pick 9

Some thoughts on the last few pages:

- No to Serong due to mobility, very flat-footed Robbie Gray clone
- Yes to Kemp on potential, more mobile and a better kick than Fyfe, but game sense will need to grow (as will the tissue where his ACL should be)
- Ash is solid, but if Williams and Docherty are recovered, it really skews our list balance for a couple of years at least; we'd want guarantees that Ash could be productive on a wing
- Trading down remains tempting, but we are just inside the top tier talent range

Disagree, especially when players like Bergman are right there.

Ignoring that it would take a bit of wrangling and perhaps a future 2nd to make this happen, why focus on Rivers and Williams? Rivers makes good decisions, but I doubt he plays midfield at the next level on what I've seen.

Williams has the straight line speed and loves to attack the footy in the air, but he needs so much work on everything else, especially for a top 30 pick, and doubly so when you're eyeing off Taheny.

Or we could look at moving Willo to a wing should he make a full recovery.

Decided I'd like to see us trade our #9 for two picks at the end of the first round.

Would do the #9 and a future second for GC's #15 & #20 and their future third.
I'd like us to be bold and not look for the best player we can get with one pick, but take the chance on two players we need with two picks.

I think we have good coverage of young talent on the books and in some cases, just wouldn't like to see the piling on of certain types.
Still keen on Stephens and Serong for us, but would be fine if we by-passed them and picked up a good medium forward (Bergman, Williams) and the best small forward we can find (Weightman, Taylor, Pickett)....ideally a crumbing small forward.

Just don't want any types that will sit behind what we have awaiting an injury before any opportunity presents and quality over quantity is a very good rule, but one this year I feel we could break and try something new.
Don't want any quality player in the Northern Blues for extended periods of time as somehow they go backwards there.

You don't trade down like that at this stage, you wait for the offers to come in and try to play them off against each other.

If Gold Coast want to step up, we shouldn't be giving up anything more than pick 57.

Agreed.

I am happy to trade pick 9 but unless an incredible offer comes our way, we would be silly to do anything prior to draft night.

See who is there come that selection, and watch the offers roll in.

I feel GC's Pick11 next year is def up for grabs as it is there's to do with what they want with now, but if they still have it next year and they somehow improve, then it is reviewable by the AFL. Why risk it?...get rid of it now and it is impossible to take it off them.

Someone will have that pick other than GC at the end of this draft.

Has it been confirmed it's able to be traded at this stage? Given the tentative nature of the concessions year-to-year, I'd imagine that was one of the first things nixed.

I didn't say at this stage but should it come about tomorrow, if be happy with the CFC.
I've no idea what may come about and generally speaking trading down makes for little sense and it should make little sense for us now too, but it just seems as if we did do it, we'd look for the types we need. Risky but maybe that's where we are.

I’ve predicted GWS. I don’t see a deal being done for 3 or even 4 to let them move up. It wipes them out of two drafts and doesn’t need get them the player they wanted (Jackson). Instead they could trade down with GC for 15 and next years 11. If I was either club I’d do that deal.

Yeah, i'm pretty sure the AFL confirmed that it is absolutely theirs to do with what they want, but if they still have it next year and they somehow remarkably improve then they have reserved the right to nix it then.

Classic AFL makey uppy logic. But it does sorta make sense. Pretty much they want GC to use it now without giving them an upfront extra pick on top of 1 this year .

The AFL effectively handed over a pick #1 a #11 and a #19 to club only last year were deemed to deserve only access to a couple of state league players.
How is that just? It's really not.

You would think that the "what if" possibilities are being discuss atm between clubs; as 5 mins on the night for live trading is only long enough for go or no go decisions, plus paperworks

Of course, clubs will have been in constant discussion since trade week.

It was noted in the Stocker video that we had been in discussion with Adelaide as well as other clubs for a while.

Nothing "just" in the Australian Football Entertainment League. As Vince McMahon conceded 20 years ago, this is revenue making entertainment folks. I accepted that the AFL crossed the rubicon years ago, and i'm talking 100 years ago. It's never been just.

The GC def needed help, they would have got it last year if the pesky Blues weren't "deserving" of it too. We all know that. But i'm for them getting it and us not. We can help ourselves, and we have. GC are just a 9th weekly game. They need help to be somewhat competitive.

I would like to add to this discussion by saying that the AFL is not a real thing. Nor is Carlton. Nor is GC. Nor are concepts like ‘justice’. All of these things are fabrications of the human mind. All help survival. Hence why they persist.

Go Blues

Cheers

The only thing that is really real is that the 1st figure in my sig aint changin'.

Picks 15 & 20 will become 18 & 23 on draft night.

If we finish bottom 6 next season, that trade could end up being a downgrade of pick 10 (pushed back after Green bid) to pick 18 for a 3rd round selection in what is touted the most compromised draft in history.

If GC want to move up the draft board, they need to put something of value on the table. E.g. Pick 15 (2019) and Pick 11 (2020) for pick 9 (2019), otherwise it's not worth our while doing the trade.

Keep in mind for us to get back into last years draft, we had to put pick 4 on the table.

Melbourne paid overs to move up the draft order this year, just to move back down again? It's possible, but any net gain wouldn't be enough for them to have planned this as a strategy with so many variables imo.

I think they'll keep their picks and be happy to take two prospects that they probably rate in the top ~6.
Melbourne going after Jackson at 3.
If they give that to GWS, they will draft Jackson at 3 and Green later.
Hence, Melbourne are stuck and can't trade out number 3 if they want Jackson.

Gotta love this time of year when all the Phantom drafts are siphoning out, and there’s little deviation at the top end with picks.

I like that Melbourne are intent on adding Jackson with their first pick and Freo will seemingly take the safer WA player in Robertson, which allows us to hopefully sit back and land Stephens.

Can’t underestimate the players endorsement to be drafted by the club, and I like that Stephens is reportedly a Carlton supporter and has already spoken highly of his meeting with Teague. He sounds very keen to join if we’ve got the opportunity.

If he gets passed Adelaide and falls to our pick he couldn’t be a more obvious choice IMO.
