if we could somehow end up with a stephens and pickett or kemp and pickett combo, i would .... I have no idea what I would do.

My issue is that all clubs are content with making GWS stronger. Clubs just give in to what the Giants are doing.
Last season's Grand Finalists add 2 top 5 players and Cognilio and a fit Davis to their side. They are going to be very good for a long time.
Adelaide by doing the trade with GWS may eventually end up with a pick in the mid 20's by the time all the academy and father sons are done
“I’m not partnering with Apple because it makes them too strong....”

His highlights are certainly mouth watering.
It’s quite hard to work out what’s ‘wrong’ with Kemp. Other than the knee. Basically he just doesn’t get the ball quite as much as you’d like.

That’s it. Doesn’t fumble. Is quick. Nice kick (not amazing just nice). Good mark. Kicks goals. Stops goals. Wins contested footy.

Like....he’s possibly a steal?

Apparently Teague is all for Kemp.
I'd imagine that a new coach may sometimes not be as patient as to have to wait a year before he can have his new charger on the ground, but if Teagues is as keen as he's supposed to be then maybe that our first may make for an easy call should our man find his way there.

Always a good sign when coaches are playing the long game. Means that the list won't be compromised for short term gain.

Re: Cooper Stephens - he's good friends w/ both Walsh and LOB.

So the connection may be there.
Isn't the Falcons old coach on board with us now?

I agree and it surprised me a little.
Guess we'll find out soon enough as if everyone's on board, there will be little to get in arms about......as if we need that. :)

There's nothing to say though that our future second may be in play somewhere also.
Our future second and one of our thirds for a pick around the 30 mark?

That's the sort of trade I'm hoping for because I don't see us taking anymore than 3 draftees next year.

Yeah that wouldn't surprise. Maybe next years 2nd and 3rd. They were out the door for Martin anyway.

Would be a nice sell to present Jack Martin and a quality kid on the day after the draft for Martin's oridinal projected price. Maybe one of the many clubs needing points next year will be keen, other than the GC lol.

With our 43 and next years 2nd and 3rd i think we'll try to get higher than 43 this year.

Carlton interviewed with him last week apparently, so this late in the game we must have an interest maybe he is this years Stocker for us, would be a bargain in the second round imo and could definitely be this years Worpedo although not sure he really fits unless we are planning on taking an Ash or a small forward with our first pick instead of a Robertson.

Yes he is, I suspect that Luke Power will also have a big say on who we take having worked with most of the elite juniors in this draft and next years draft as well in his role as head coach of the AIS Academy, also has worked with a lot over the past few years that we might look to trade in in the next couple of years, a very good appointment from Carlton.

Carlton draft:

Pick 9: Brodie Kemp

Upgraded Pick from 43: Cooper Stephens

Pick 72: A bottle of Lourdes water for Andrew Russell

I can’t decide between
Serong - Tom Papley clone, both small forward and mid

Kemp - could be the inside bull we need to help Cripps

Stephens - outside run, him and LOB on the wings is Brad Hill and Issac Smith

A lot of talk about Gould's poor testing, but i would have thought a 3.12 20m time for a small forward/mid like Serong would make a potential Top 10 bidder nervous.

The time matches the eye too.

178cm...3.12 sec sprint time...Top 10 Pick?...Not sure.

You'd have to be Zorko levels of brick shithouse to be a gun at AFL level and I can't see Serong filling out like him.

He has been compared to Robbie Gray, who also isn’t that quick but uses his smarts and agility to impact. Serong is similar is he not. Sometime people say end to much time on athletic results over actual performance

I find myself agreeing with a lot of your posts this year TerryWallet , you’re obviously a very astute judge.

I have the same concerns about Serong - if you’re gonna be small at least be quick/agile/elite by foot....he’s just not

After a lot of thought about the pool I want the following:
  • Either Robertson at 9....and try to trade back in for a pick about 20 to get Pickett or take Cahill at 43
Or
  • Split 9 and try to trade next years 2nd/3rd or whatever gets it done and get 3 picks 15-22, then we take Cooper Stephens, Ky Pickett and Dylan Williams then whatever after that

Agree with testing not being the be all and end all. But it does show athletic traits that are so important at AFL level. There is always the small chance that he could be a footballing freak like Robbie Gray. But the chance is fairly small isn't it?

Serong is a bloody good footballer, but to take a bloke his size with no pace in the Top 10 is a fairly big leap of faith imo. No problem taking a chance on him a bit lower, because he is a good, smart tough footballer and should/will be a first 22 AFL player.
