List Mgmt. Pick 9

It’s pretty simple.
If we make that deal this year, we will hold 3 x 1st rounders next year.
The deal would include a guarantee from Sydney to trade Papley next year for 1 of those 3 1st round picks.
The knowledge that we have a guarantee on Papley gives us the ability to concentrate fully on landing a second big fish next year with the remaining 2 x 1st rounders we would hold.
Nothing fanciful about it really.
Which pick? 3? 10? 15? All first rounders aren’t the same. It’s not going to happen.

The boys from True Footy just posted their phantom draft.

They had a guest speaker on their podcast, Lenny Fogliani who's working with the WA Football commission.

At the 36 min mark of their latest podcast, he said the WA players noted Brodie Kemp as the toughest individual opponent to play against.

On a side note, they have Sam Flanders sliding through to our selection.

1.GC ... Rowell
2.GC ... Anderson
3.Mel ... Jackson
4.GWS ... Ash
5.GWS ... Green
6.Syd ... Flanders
7.Ade ... McAsey
8.Fre ... Robertson
9.Fre ... Stephens
10.Fre ... Henry
11.Car ... Serong/Kemp/Young/Pickett

If we use the pick, I’m taking Serong or Pickett.

Would consider trading down for a future 1st and a current 2nd with either Sydney or Adelaide.
The future 1st would give us 3 1st rounders next year to really attack the trade period and bring in the big fish.
Sydney & Adelaide are every chance to finish bottom 8 next year so the pick would at least be equivalent to our pick this year and could very easily be a top 5 selection.
The 2nd rounder for this year, Adelaide 22&23 or Sydney 25, could see us land C.Stephens if he is on our radar or E.Taylor/D.Williams if we are looking for a classy forward.

I think your top 11 is going to be pretty close. Heard to day Melbourne are looking at Pickett with pick 12 (currently 10). If they don't the dogs will pick him with there first pick.

I do like your trade idea and if we do I'll like to double down on small forwards with 2nd pick and 43 with player like Taylor, Taheny, Jai Jackson, Sokol or bid on Johnson.

If we keep pick 9 and bid on Henry, Freo won't have any point left if we bid on Butters later in the draft. I'll also put a bid on Coleman to see if Brisbane will match it.

We need at least 2 small forwards IMO and this is the draft to get them. There is a lot of really exciting one available in the national and rookie drafts.

If McAsey is still there at 9, expect PA (12), WB(13), GEE (14), GCS (15) and RCH (19) to come calling. Hawks own 11 and will take McAsey unless a team gets in early and takes our 9. PA have 12/16/18 and I suggest 16/18 plus a future 4th (so we can trade future 1st if needed) would be very gettable (leaving them 9/12). And then the bidding war commences. GEE have 14/17 and 2x2020 1sts. GCS have 15/20 and 2x2020 1sts. We would be in a very strong bargaining position. The draft is void of KPD. McAsey is a standout and all these teams and others need him.

Interesting they reckon Serong is someone SOS has eye on.
No doubt about that but I think he will go in top 5 or 6 picks.
Kemp is way more likely to slip to us than Serong.
But if neither is still there at 9, I'll probably be all for live trading pick 9 to a pick in late teens and a pick in second round.
Getting Cody Weightman in the late teen picks and someone else in the 20's would be good result if there is no clear elite talent slider at 9.
I reckon Dockers take Kemp they basically get 3 picks in the top 10 now getting ahead of any bids for Henry so may as well take a chance on a slider there

Don't think they've been linked.

Robertson, Stephens, Serong, Young and Flanders are the names being thrown around.

Kemp should be there at our pick, but whether we pick him is another question.

Irrespective of who or what we do at 9 - it’s Stocker + whatever. Massive win on our behalf. Good job SOS. Imagine Serong/Kemp AND Stocker for 4. Massive for our future. Baaa.

I genuinely worry this happens:

We unwittingly shuffle picks in our minds. Our recruiters I mean. Eg: we sell ourselves that Kemp is number 4, thinking he slides and we get a steal. Internally we write our boards up that way. Then when someone unexpectedly drops (like Young) they can’t take him.

I think all recruiters would find that hard not to do. Really hard.

Because the temptation would be to kid themselves that their pick was so amazing. Rather than just “look we had pick ten and you wouldn’t believe it, we ended up with the tenth best kid.”

Not saying it always happens. But it worries me. Especially as our friend SOS is more than a little stubborn.

Time will tell but somehting tells me we’ve decided it’s Kemp and it will be Kemp and kemp and nothing but kemp no matter what happens.

Sorry, now I’m just hogging the thread. Imagine we trade 9 to PA for 12/18.

9 - PA - McAsey
10 - MEL - Pickett
11 - HAW - Serong/Kemp/Slider
12 - CAR - Serong/Kemp/slider and 18 (C Stephens/Williams/Rivers/Weightman/Bergman/Taylor)

It's a possibility because the Port list manager has said he's opening to bundling up multiple picks to move up the order.

Mind you, they all say that.

I have no clue what the club will do

Still a fair bit of noise around Weightman at our selection.

Also TCP mentioned that we'd rather trade the pick than reach for a player.

If Kemp, Young and one of Serong or Stephens is still on the board and we pick Weightman, that's probably the reach he's talking about.

Can't see any of Kemp, Young, Stephens or Serong being classified as a reach at pick 9 (most likely 10 or 11 on draft night).

Weightman's a great player, but feel like there are a few ahead of him based on their body of work to date.
