List Mgmt. Pick 9

I really like the look of Stephens, has a very Gaff like ability to just find himself in space where the ball will be, miles away from anyone else. He also looks quick, and has an exceptional kick.

The rest beyond the top two don't really stick out for me.
He looks very good. Has speed and good footskills. Imagine him and LOB on both wings.....drool

Brodie Kemp looks good but think he will end up more a Jake stringer type than a pure mid

Geelong will come knocking for pick 9.Want to be inside top 10.They have 14,17,24.Depending on points index may turn two of those into our pick.
Pity they didn`t come knocking before the trades finished, as we could have got Martin with one of their picks and the talk had been about us splitting our pick anyway, but nothing happened..........pretty much like our day ended up being actually :(

Too many in this draft pool are meat and potatoes, with very few seeming to possess AFL attributes with ball in hand (based on my not very comprehensive viewing).

I'll accede to the experts on this one, as I don't have time to really research things this time around. What I'd like from the first round pick is a goal-kicking mid (which is why Stephens is attractive to me, with his combination of footskills, pace and the ability to be in the right place at the right time) and for us to use our latter picks to locate a few small forwards, as good ones can be sourced throughout the draft generally speaking.

With any luck, we can unearth a gem or two.

Lets bid anyway and we might get him down the road ala Setters. If they match, we take the next target: split or Kemp, Flanders, Stephens, Robertson.

If they don't match, we have an excitement machine for Eddie to mentor.

I'm for it, I think they'll match at pick 9 which is always good to make teams pay for their academy and f/sons selections

Im just looking forward to draft night when we all sit around and anticipate who we will take, knowing full well how good each player is because we have seen them all play many games and know them inside and out - waiting for the AFL CEO to announce the draft pick after making each club wait for 5 mins to increase the experience and anticipation................oh wait, barely anyone has seen any of the play and can just read the herald sun phantom draft which will get 15 of the 18 top picks in the correct order.

Keep trying AFL...

Really like Ash but not sure he gets to 9
Funny. I actually don't like him at all. I think he'll get caught a lot at a higher level, and his ball use isn't that exceptional to make up for the lack of an inside midfield game. Plus I think picking up half backs early in the draft is a big mistake. How many actually work out?

Stephens looks something special. Anyone know why he isn't ranked higher? Looks a top 3 or 4 prospect to me.

You forgot a recent number 1 pick. McGrath. May not be best player in that draft but a very good footballer who starred as a half back.

I like the look of ash. Looks extremely reliable and will turn up every week and perform.

I’ve come to appreciate picking up elite positional players. By positional l mean non-midfielders(May run through midfield occasionally). I used to subscribe to just picking up midfielders with high picks.

Trick is identifying those kids whose elite positional play will transfer to Afl.

I like the look of Stephens as well. Lob on one wing and Stephens on the other could work well.

McGrath had proven his midfield credentials and had dominated in the position in his draft year.

Ash and Young have yet to do so in a meaningful way.

I think Ash provides something novel for us in terms of powerful run off out of defensive 50. His long kicks do appear to die on their trajectory a bit but his short kicking looks neat enough (YouTube recruiting). As for getting caught I don't see it unless it is an awareness issue...his looks to have decent agility and acceleration.

I do really like the look of Stephens too if you want someone more outside run

My gut feel is that SOS looks to downgrade the pick now or on draft night - to Port perhaps or another looking to move up the order into the top ten. If we are targeting a good small forward (backing our midfield group in as has been suggested), we can likely find him in the late first round/early second.

Port (12 & 29), Geelong (14 & 24) and Brisbane (16 & 21) could be clubs we reach out to or are contacted by for 9.

I'd send 9 to any of those three clubs with Pick 43 if the guy/s we want will be there later anyway. Then gives us a free 20-pick upgrade.

keep 43, send 57 if we’re doing one of those deals

Stephens is a SA boy isn’t he? I wonder how badly Port might want our pick of Adel pass on him at 4
There has been talk about their interest in Stephens and he's likely to go in that range (8-12) so Pick 9 might seal it for them.

My suggestion of 9 & a later pick (43 or 57 as Stamos suggested) for 12 & 29 could be a go if they want to make sure of it.

Maybe if Flanders and Serong go we pull the trigger.

Has been chatter of Kemp for our pick, but may just be his range. If we're keen to take the risk on his ACL, he may slide to that late-first given guys with big injury concerns do? Seems a likely type, big-bodied and versatile. Who better to mentor him through that rehab than Doc?

I think it’s because people aren’t sure if he is always in the right spots or is abit of a seagull looking for easy touches which might be found out at the higher level.
He is probably rated top 10 though so is highly rated. A lot of the guys this year have X factor but aren’t rounded players imo which makes them hard to place because they all come with risks.
