Im quite happy with my generalisation that midfielders taller than 192cm are slow and therefor, you can't have too many. Im quite happy with the ones we have, who are not fast and adding another is crazy imo.
Work with me here.
As at Round 1 2020
Cripps - 25yo
Setterfield - 22yo
Kemp - 18yo
In 2020 - Kemp is still rehabbing his ACL, and returns through the VFL very late in the season.
In 2021 - Kemp continues to develop through the VFL, potentially getting opportunities in the seniors when injury allows.
In 2022 - Kemp transitions to the senior side, playing as a taller utility (can play down back, up forward, and rotate through the midfield).
In 2023 - Cripps is 28 and probably spending longer stints in the forward line, Setterfield is 25 and the new Cripps/Bont hybrid, and Kemp shifts to a more midfield-heavy role.
A lot can change in 4 years, and players do get injured. I don't think a third elite "tall mid" is an issue, if anything, the spread of ages probably makes it a smart move either this season or next.
That being said, plenty hinges on who else is available and what trade options we have. There are certainly other areas of need that could be addressed first, but we don't want to be reaching too far for a certain type, and there may not be a conveniently positioned club open to trading with us to split our pick.
