List Mgmt. Pick 9

The other one I would like to get, hopefully he gets to 43, is Kossie Pickett. Just think it is now the perfect time to get a young indigenous small forward to work with Eddie so that we can capitalise fully on Eddies last couple of years.

I just watched some footage of Kossie Pickett and I agree it would be great to have him around Eddie for a couple of years.

I try not to get carried away with highlights, but I really think Eddie could pick up a few useful things from Kossie before he retires. :p

Well I’ve spent the better part of 2 days watching U18 videos (just had time to kill!)....

So some thoughts, all predicated on I’m speaking on watching about 5 games now.
- Someone needs to point me to a game where I’m not going to be massively underwhelmed by Stephens. Based on what I saw I’d be gutted if we took him at 9. He’s very slight. Very outside. Not electric enough to make up for it. Not really a line breaker. Pass.
- pity Flanders will be well gone by us. He’s terrific.
- Serong slightly behind him. Also will def be gone by us.
- Kemp looked great. I didn’t see any of the ‘great burst from stoppages’ others have spoken of. Reminded me of Stringer without the freak factor.
- Gould looks a ready made 200 game third tall defender for mine. Has footy pace. Beautiful kick. Really liked him.
- Ash seems fond of running himself into trouble and then kicking helicopters. Possibly a bit harsh. He has nice attributes (build, dash) that could blossom in an afl environment.
- Young is classy, although seemed to miss quite a number of kicks. But has time and is a really nice footballer. Don’t know why but he reminded me of a football version of Joe Ingles. Will also be gone by our pick.
- I was pleasantly surprised by Henry. Freo will be matching on him at or around our pick I reckon. He’s balanced, quick, good skills, seems to work hard both ways. Makes for interesting trade possibilities with them.
- I liked Robertson but he’s a bit messy by foot for mine. Lacks offensive threats. However is sensational without the ball. Smothers, tackles, pressure. Def first rounder.

I don’t really see how any of Rowell, Anderson, Serong, Young, Green or Flanders last to us. Frankly Kemp either. He’s too good to drop to us.

I now don’t really like our spot in the draft order. I’d be looking to trade with Freo (on the night) or GC.

No shit. Why else would we let them move up the order? They are not getting a pick higher than ours for 15 and 20. Those picks will become 17 and 22/23 after academy. We are getting Martin anyway. So fine, take that out of it. They are still not getting that top ten pick without giving up both 15 and 20. You’ve been around long enough to know clubs pay over the points odds to the time of 300-500 to get higher picks. That’s about what I’ve suggested.
Perhaps you might want to read your post that i quoted rather than start your reply with reference to the contents of the sewer, Your post read
" And I’m pretty convinced the peace pipe will be smoked between Gc and Carlton and a pick swap will let them save face while delivering Martin "

Pickett has some good highlights but he also is good to watch in a full game. He is a real impact player. He influences scoring shots with nearly all of what he does, whether it be with or without the ball. I've had him around the Top 20 for months imo.

For sure he is not quite getting enough of the ball for some, but for mine he is that real impact per possession type forward. Indeed he doesn't even require possession to impact, he impacts by presence like all special little forwards.

I'd love to bring him into the club with Eddie. Great use of the EddiePackage and get a hopefully important part of our forward bunch going forward. He'd be on my shortlist if i was SOS.

He's bigger then he should be. Over 100kg at 192cm.
That's too simplistic. Oliver was fat. Get him in an elite program with Andrew Russel and I can guarantee you by round 1 next year he wont be fat

Edit. McGovern was fat. Four weeks of intense training with Russel and he slimmed down
Oliver got himself slim before being drafted. Gould honestly moves better compared to last year, but you can see he overdid it.

I'd rather we were trading up than down.
Next year's №1 is looking like an athletic ruckman. Could be just what we need.
Our 2020 1st should have similar value to our pick 9, around 1500 so those two together is worth close to №1(3000)
do people still take ruckmen at 1?

I could scream "Kossie!" at a game..........I could do that...........

Surely Dee's trump us with 8?
Certainly need 43 or something from next year to even it up.

You'd think that given we missed out on Papley, Sam Gray would be looked at.

I think we recruited Eddie in case we didn't land Papley.

Smart way to hedge your Betts.

;)

That's it I'm off to Europe!

I have only seen highlights. No doubt people will get excited by the leap, the speed, the x-factor etc.

What I loved the most was that it appears 'he knows where his teammates are'. He looks like the kind of player that will provide the little tap on to set up a goal, a chip kick to a player in space, a fast handball out to a guy running past. He's the type that could handpass the ball between an opponent's legs, not because he's trying to be cute, but because he has the innate ability to see the opportunity in a split second.

I can easily see how he would have impact beyond the stat sheet.

OK, I'm sold. And I guess there would be some chance he lasts to our pick 43.

He seems to be somewhat of a chance to get to 43. But he could also go in the 20's. That kind of a draft. I don't worry too much about what picks we have at any given moment because they can change at any moment right up until you read them out on the night.

List managers have more opportunity than ever to get the players their recruiters identify they want. If you want a player outside the top dozen or so, you have a fair chance to get a crack at him.

I think Pickett would be an inspired pick by us in that 25 to 45 range.

The 3 players who i see being value comparing my rating to overall projected rating are :

Dylan Williams: who i have top 5 but seems to be going anywhere from about 15 to 40.

Ky Pickett: who i have around 20 but seems to be going anywhere from late 20's to 50.

Harry Schoenberg: who i have around 15 but seems to be going 2nd round or so.

Draft night is gonna be a helluva watch this year for those of us interested enough.

Just on Pickett too, he's a tough litlle barstad. His bumps have more impact than a lot of 6'3 showponies in the AFL. He likes to use them too for the benefit of a teammate. Not the way Byron did lol(different time) but for team benefit.

It will be once we get past the first two picks and the gloating over on the Gold Coast table. :)

Pickett is one of the players I'd want for us should we trade down with GC.
I think we've done well with some good meat and potatoes around the edges with recent uptakes of Newman and Newnes.

Martin gives us something unique and with an acquisition of a couple of speedy, darting smalls we may quickly become one of the better teams to watch.

Weightman with 12
Pickett with 30
Both mentored by Betts
Shouldn’t have to worry about that department for a while ...

Neither would have to show too much before selection either.
I'm tired of trying us to make this player into that and then something else.

It didn't work for Gibbons, Polson, ECurnow and then Fisher and Dow.
Play players to their strengths and then ask them to get even better and not manufacture roles for them along the way, just to keep them in the side.

That pick #9 may net the better player but maybe not the better fit. Really warming to selling off the pick #9 and selecting for needs.

I will go early, think Grainger-Barras will/should go number 1 next year
