IMHO if we have the opportunity it’s any one of Liam Henry, Luke Jackson or Brodie Kemp if we keep pick 9, all these youngsters have good potential.
If we trade down our pick 9 to say 15 & 20, I’d select Rivers or Cooper Stephen at 15, Pickett at 20, and Suns must delist Jack Martin too.

Give Martin a chance, can’t delist him without giving him an opportunity first.

I'm generally against trading down, but as has been said, I wouldn't care so much this year and may end up welcoming it.
We won't get the player we want in Kemp, nor likely get a need in Stephens.

Why don't we go for needs and get a couple of speedsters with goal-kicking skills and place them under the tutelage of Betts?
It may not be as simple as that but why not? No point just getting something we don't really need at that pick #9.
While I still think Kemp will be there at 9 - unknown position mixed with ACL will see him drop - I think Stephens is 50/50. Both would be great gets. I like Elijah Taylor though at a later pick to put under Betts eye. Trading down for 15 & 20 say could still realise some decent potential IMO. The other Stephens, Cooper, could be a rough diamond.

I wouldn't trade down from pick 9.

However I would trade into the 2nd rd.

As I said, I wouldn't normally want to but the way I see things now -

If we don't get the individual player we want at #9 (Kemp) and don't care so much for the type we may get thereafter, why not take the chance on doubling up on needs-basis players. A small forward and speedy wingman and back ourselves to make them work?

I can understand the argument against this, but if it was to come about, I'd be pretty happy.

Perhaps you might want to read your post that i quoted rather than start your reply with reference to the contents of the sewer, Your post read
" And I’m pretty convinced the peace pipe will be smoked between Gc and Carlton and a pick swap will let them save face while delivering Martin "
Ok

Must admit I’ve been on meds and not myself. What are we actually talking about Gun?

Who is the speedy wingman

who is the speedy wingman do you think Harks?

I think the only situation where we should trade with pick 9 would be if we decide there isn't anyone we are real keen on when we get there and there is a club willing to do a swap of pick 9 for their future first round pick. I don't think it will come to that though, i think we will use it.

Not sure about future pick only, mate. I don't think SOS was lying when he said using Pick 9 was the Plan B. I can see us bidding on the Hawks' father son and maybe young Liam Henry, too. But I'd say we like a few guys in that range so would pounce. Big risk trading back in a hope of getting a specific player.

Although if we get a great offer like those I've postulated on (Cats, Port some teams who could look at this) then I'd be okay with it.

Surely Dee's trump us with 8?
Certainly need 43 or something from next year to even it up.

Nah. Melbourne are pretty closely linked to Weightman at pick 8. They might think they can land him with 12 instead, but if we just call them up between here and the draft and ask them how keen they are on Weightman, they'll sppok. It'll be seen as us doing some scouting to determine if a quality small forward like him will be available at our Pick 9, and if they're as keen on him as has been suggested they'll retain pick 8 and make sure they take him there before we can pick their pocket.

Then we trade down "live" on draft night after they make their selection.

Yeah I reckon we'll have a very good young talent available to us. Timing is right to take a talented and quick youngster who has a crack and will contribute early in his career.

I can see us bidding if we think they are a top talent that's for sure. Henry would be a good bet for a bid.

I don't think we're going to trade pick 9 for a bunch of later picks though. I don't think we need numbers, we need to leak in a a few real top talents and the draft isn't supposed to be real deep from all reports.

I think for where our list is at we're going to see substantial improvement in 2020 and we will be in a position to bring in good mature age footballers and we probably will do that in 2020 so having plenty of ammo is important. We are also in a position where we don't need numbers and shouldn't be focused on depth through the draft, rather elite talent, build our depth by pushing others out as well as picking up a few mature depth players with nothing picks. We have all bases filled in our side, we just haven't got them all filled with top talent. We should have around 30 really capable players and not too many who are likely to retire immediately so the pressure to bring in numbers isn't great. I think our focus needs to be on bringing in really good players and from what I have seen it is.

Pick 9 in most drafts is a really good player and I just get the feeling we will get one but I would not be against a future first round swap if that did come up, particularly if it was with a team who is not looking that crash hot. I get the feeling we will have some great options in regards to mature players to pick from next season. Either and ither I'm fine as long as we end up with someone who is going to be a pretty good player for us in 2021.

I'd do it for an early second and a future first.

Brisbane might nibble at that. 9 for 21 and their future first. They'll be planning on that being in the late teens, but there's every chance they drop back a bit next year as teams put more work into them.

Geelong might do Pick 9 for 24 plus next year's first (theirs or WC's) given the copious number of earlyish picks they've amassed.

Reckon we'd have a good shot at a decent small forward like Taylor with a pick in the 20s, and we'd have a second first rounder next year to give us a bit of flexibility in chasing mature targets.

Fair enough.

If Melb take jackson and weightman then the draft opens up for us nicely at 9.
