Knightmare has had some serious movements in his most recent Phantom drafts. Has Luke Jackson moving up from pick 10 to pick 3. McAsey becomes important to those who need a KPD. Bids on Green and Henry and gonna see GWS and Freo make moves up the order to jump other teams who force their hand. Now has Serong going at 9 with Stephens still there and Kemp going at 13. SOS does love a discounted injured player and if he's available I reckon he will be all over him. This draft is going to be completely up in the air from pick 3 onwards. I wonder how the AFL will approach the broadcast as the live trading means they can't just announce the top 10 in order once it's finalised as their is far too much drama involved now.

I’m still torn between Stephens, Kemp, Serong at 9.

Its becoming an annual tradition where I keep changing my mind everyday. Yesterday I was sold on Stephens, but watching vision of Kemp’s break away speed with his size/frame has me wanting him at the discounted rate.

Will his speed come back?

I'm starting to see Kemp as a bit of a Tomlinson.
That would be very appealing for SOS, but maybe not exactly what's best suited for the CFC.

I'm likely wrong as everyone says otherwise, but Ash seems a little ordinary to me.
Yes, he has a nice run but somehow I'm not seeing it at AFL level. Just one of those things.

Stephens is the one I'd like most as he gives us something we need.
Serong as one part of what we may need in our forward line, but would still like a genuine crumber.

Robertson sounds appealing by way of profile, but may end up being more Luke Dunstan than Joel Selwood.
He may also an early Hannebery. I don't know.

As I put forward yesterday, I'd be very tempted to trade out the #9 should a good deal present and then go for clear needs with two hits at the piñata and if only one good strike comes about, that may be good enough.
With holding the pick #9 we may play it safe and look for the best player as opposed the players we need most. I'd be daring here given where we are in terms of our list build and for the coverage of young players we already have at the club.

Then again it could be a fail, but it's the 'risk' I'd be proud of our club to take should a couple of picks in thr top 20 present.

I don’t believe it. Think this is a case of the HS making up garbage for more clicks.

Rowell and Anderson have been talked about as the 1 2 punch for a long time now, and not for their football ability alone.

The prospect of adding two talented kids who are best friends is huge for the Suns.

They just won’t pass that opportunity up.

Mind you, they’re not exactly known for making good decisions...

We actively sought Newnes as a winger (with versatility), could Kemp be parked on the outside on his return where we believe we have a spot plus offering marking HF & HB.
R: TDK - Setterfield - Walsh
C: Kemp - Cripps - LOB/Williamson/SPS

Backup midfielders: Stocker, Dow, Gibbons, Fisher...Kennedy(?), Cottrell(?)
+ DC, Martin.

Like it. Robertson seems a great fit.

Couple of SA boys Id love to see at Carlton.
Excitement machine- Pickett is a livewire type who is capable of taking the Mark of the Year on the Members wing on GF day and dishes out some hard stuff over the ball too.
Smokey of the draft -Karl Finlay -193 cm intercept weapon across half back. Raw, country kid with mature head, leadership and plenty of upside for a later 3rd/4th round type.

Agree mate. To me there’s no real point of difference between 6-20 even a bit further. I’m hoping SOS is working the phones (as has been indicated is happening with some clubs) and we entertain moving back. Two pieces is always better than one in this standard of draft. Eg. I’d rather take a chance on Cooper Stephens and Dylan Williams.

Surely this is an AFL beat up to drum up interest and pretend like there is intrigue in the top 2 picks....

This is not something I'd advocate in most years but it just seems to be a good means to a possible better end this year.

We can take Kemp at #9 for the talent he is, have him sit on the sidelines in 2020, have our midfield develop well next year, still target a mature mid in the 2020 trade period and then what? Try and find another position for him to play? I don't like it.

If you know what you're looking for you may well find it. If those front-end players aren't there the fair enough, just take the talent and figure out what to do with it later on, but given the young talent we have all around the park now, I'd chance on us getting two players that serve needs.

e.g. I didn't think we really needed O'Brien in '17 but we got him and that's fine.
Would have we been better off targeting what was clearly needs then and trade out the #10 for let's say the numbers we're reaching for now using Geelongs ~ #17 and ~#24? Those numbers would have got us Jack Higgins and Liam Ryan.

I'm simply suggesting if those type scenarios are possible and given the overall blend of our list, let's not double up on what we have.
We can be bold and reach for types we need. Why not?

We needed run in 2017 and Lochie was the perfect choice, will be a better player than both those players you mentioned in my opinion.

The main reason not to trade down I reckon is that our biggest specific need is more A-graders, to which end holding or even moving up has merit

Robertson is a funny one who obviously divides opinion. I actually see him as a Fisher type player but with a bigger, stronger body which makes him much more effective at the contest at AFL level.

There's a cleaner way to go about it.

Call Freo ahead of our selection at Pick 9. Tell them we're really needing a small, and Henry is one of the best available. But there are a few others we reckon we can get with an early second. Ask if we agree to pass on Henry, will they do a pick swap for later picks with us - 22 for 43, 57 and our future third.

They'd be about 260 points short of matching a bid at 11, but would have enough to match a bid at 16. They can take their live picks at 8 and 10, then wait for a Henry bid before trying to flip a future pick for whatever is needed to cover the shortfall - or if Henry doesn't attract a bid until 16+, they're set anyway.

We come out of it with Pick 9 intact for best available, no chance Freo gets our preferred player ahead of us, and Pick 22, which should be really well placed for one of Pickett, Taylor, Weightman or Taheny to land in our laps.

Yep, I don't believe it either. Every year we hear the first pick is on the table for the right price and we know that price is more than any sane person would want to pay.

However, if the Suns were actually legit then Pick 9 and next year's first should be enough for Rowell.

I think we are forgetting draft picks have less value to Foldcoast than actual clubs because of the concessions they have received. The value of picks to them as a result is diluted.
