List Mgmt. Pick 9

I posted the below in another thread but it fits here and is my opinion on Pick 9:

For those worried about Kemp and his knee, look at Setters now. He had more than just a single ACL go wrong early. It's not ideal, but it's not a death sentence.

In 12 months time, Kemp will still be 6'4 with elite speed and elite disposal who can play anywhere on the field but really wants to train hard and play as a mid. Where he played once during the Champs and got it 28 times. He'll just be 19 instead of 18.

Robertson or Kemp for mine please at 9. If they were gone, i'd consider offers to trade down if they were good enough offers.

I’ll take Kemp over Robertson.

His upside is just too big to ignore IMO.

May be fair to say that our pick #9 will now be a pick #10

Not many clubs could possibly have enough talent on the books to be doing what GWS can do. Maybe GC in a few years time?
I need to double check but at last count my math said this move completely wiped them out of this year and next year’s drafts.

Someone on the drafts board has done the math and apparently GWS have just enough points from this year and next year to match a bid at 5 for Green and at 46 for another academy pick they want. But AFL Rules prevent them from matching at 3 because they haven't got the points. They've cut it very fine but i suppose it enables them to call Melbournes bluff. If they bid on Green, he is theirs.

Pretty clear now, Melb take Jackson, GWS Young then match Sydney bid on Green.

They can just squeak in a pick at 4, match Green at 5 and get Delahunty if bid after 46 or miss him if bid on earlier. That wipes out all this years and next years picks.

My issue with the GC is that sporting clubs in general simply do not work up there, and the AFL imo are just taking a short term view to get them as competitive as they can quickly before the next round of players look to leave. You can bet your house that both Adelaide and Port will both come hard for Lukosius next year, and even potential recruits in Rowell and Anderson will have Vic clubs coming hard for them.

At the end of the day the AFL should never have put a team there. If they wanted a second team in QLD, they would have been better off putting a team in Cairns.
Fold Coast again!!! Cal Byrnes has reportedly suggested that picks one and two are available for potential trades, together or separately. Heard this on 3AW.

Now, I am sure that Byrnes is just making a statement to keep their options open and keep potential options open. However, surely this is a tsunami of circumstances that dictate you just take best mates Rowell and Anderson to alleviate the retention issue and build a competitive team for the future. You have a great hand of young kids, a significant handout from the AFL to support that growth and a ground swell of community empathy, if not from the footy community itself. You also have improved facilities to wow these kids with and a great climate etc.

Just crazy! Surely the AFL would knock any trade on the head and give Fold Coast a clip for potential stupidity. Who is worth picks one and two in a potential trade that significantly moves the needle on their competitiveness and off field issues and would agree to go there.

This is one whereby Byrnes just drops the party line, media mask, removes the straight bat and just takes the gift horse. Don't make waves, Cal!

Where did I say that we should gamble with picks? I didn't say that.

Yes, most positions are covered and this is a good thing and which is why we should be looking at filling the gaps and not simply be doubling up on types.
Yes, two strong sides are important. Very much so and development is also critically important. Development of premium talent works best in the premium side......I've seen this over several years of watching the NB's to think I may have some idea on it.

Anyway, my point was: Do not get stuck with the one formula thinking it will serve you well forever and a day.
I have little doubt that we are well aware of this and I feel you do to.

You two could undercard on Hall/Gallen rematch. Thy/Aph will promote.

They can just go into deficit if the really want one of them. Buy now and pay later. Afterpay even!

They don’t care. They will trade Caldwell for a second and their next year (thankfully we still have them!) and use those points for whatever freebies the academy throws up then.

If they do, I hope we get him.

Our midfield could be full of the Bendigo Pioneers top prospects: Dow, O'brien, Kemp and Caldwell :)

The AFL may as well give us the premiership cup right now :)

Well if the crows are too weak to stand up to the Giants I hope that Melbourne bid on Greene and stuff up the Giants plans

And if the Giants don't match? It would totally derail the Dees draft strategy, the deal was too good for Adelaide to refuse, getting a 1st round pick for moving back 2 spots, is great business.

For those worried about Kemp and his knee, look at Setters now. He had more than just a single ACL go wrong early. It's not ideal, but it's not a death sentence.

Setters has just put together his first full season of AFL, its not really a ringing endorsement to abandon caution on existing knee injuries because one guy just got through a single season.
Jake Lever done his ACL in the under 18s if im not mistaken and slid because of it, he was drafted and looked like he was over his injury, he was playing great footy until re injuring his ACL and has since missed the best part of two seasons. Will he come back the same player?

Kemp might have a injury free career, but if he re injures his ACL in his first 3 or so seasons of AFL, we will have wasted a very good selection, considering he most likely won't play season 1 and if you injure your ACL mid season, you most of the time lose 2 years of footy.

If Kemp was a 2nd or 3rd round pick, then my opinion changes greatly.

If Green is earmarked to be the next Cripps, why wouldn't Suns select him at pick #1 to blow GWS away, then Rowell at #2?

I haven't seen Anderson play, but I assume he must be a gun.

That would definitely throw a spanner in the works.

4. GWS H.Young
5. GWS T.Green
6. Syd S.Flanders or C.Serong
7. Ade F.McAsey or S.Flanders

That seems to be the feeling at the moment from Bishop, and i agree. Also he thinks either Melb or us could trade down for 2 picks to get Ky Pickett. Which must mean Bulldogs are set on Bergman. Maybe Kemp or trade down for us if Melb take their pick 8.

Things are starting to shape up. Twomey should have some decent mail tomorrow. Think he's doing a 1st Rd Phantom.

Adelaide aren't sniffing around Stephens? I'd be all over him if I were them.
