Im hoping:

GC- Rowell
GC- Anderson
Melb- Jackson
GWS- Young/Ash
GWS- Green
Syd- Flanders
Ade- Mccasey/Stephens
Freo- Robertson
Freo- Ash/Young/Serong
Carl-Ash/Kemp/Stephens

Would be happy with either of those three.
Not a huge fan of Young or Serong.

I think the Melbourne/Freo swap gives us an advantage as there are not many Vic clubs picking before us. Gives us a chance to target our preferred choice who may play the homesick card trying to slip through.

Will be interesting to see the phantom drafts start to drop. Reckon they have been average lately because of the live trading and every club keeping their cards close to their chest. Twomey has been very non-committal this year and knightmare im convinced doesn’t have a clue.

Plausible summation good sir. Is Dylan the midfielder that is similar but different to O’Brien? Or is that Cooper? If it is Dylan what’s with the blumour we are into Cooper?

If you know the cut of his Jib and would be so kind to enlighten me I’d I owe you one.

You are thinking of Dylan - predominantly an outside mid, but someone who I think could fill out and become a very damaging centre square mid also. He is my #1 target at pick 9.

The rumour was that we're keen on Cooper, he's an inside mid who I haven't seen a lot. He has constantly been talked about as a first round prospect but not probably someone you'd look at inside the top 10. Looks to be a good size and a really good runner.

I have him at around pick 20 but if we do end up trading back in the draft I don't have any issues if we decide to grab him. But I wouldn't take him at 9 and if we are set on him I would hope we're able to play it smart and get an extra pick out of it in the process.

People that aren't a fan of serong should watch more tape
Are you saying a 3min clip isn’t enough to be able to make a professional judgement 😳

I have no idea why people don’t like serong but so far I’ve heard
- to small
- not quick
- no tricks
- has only got by because of his size
- can’t kick

I love him, think he suits our needs

If you asked me who I wanted pre draft I would say
A small forward come midfielder, who can kick goals but also has good pressure is aggressive and hard at it.

Serong ticks those boxes.
Also the fact that he’s trained at Carlton, worked with Luke Power at the AIS and also Daniel Okeefe who while at Geelong Falcons I’m sure would have seen a lot of him down at Geelong Grammar.

Sos has had success picking similar type small forward midfielders in Toby Greene and Devon Smith. This looks another one

Inference we’re keen?

I know we can sometimes caricature draftees a bit, and those weaknesses get ironed out once they’re in the system.

Serong does seem very much a SOS pick ala Toby Greene - a guy who’s got some deficiencies, but is hugely competitive and a decent footy IQ.

Our defensive fwd pressure sucks last year. We don’t have any good ground ball players with tackling pressure and locking the ball inside. Serong does that but you can also be comfortable with him deep one on one with a miss match

The only problem with this is that he hasn't played in the small forward role so we'd be drafting him for his midfield abilities and hoping his game naturally converts to the small forward role. Remember he was AA as a midfielder. Not sure i'd want to use a top 10 pick on someone we intend to use in a position they're not used to playing. We already have plenty of mid-forward options in Martin, JSOS, Cuners, Gibbons etc. I'd prefer a pure small forward than another hybrid. That said, I trust SOS whoever we draft and as you highlighted, we have plenty of people who will know Serong's capability at the club.

He played small forward last year, he only moved into the midfield this year so has shown he can play both roles.

The thing that sets out Serong from most specialist small forwards (I’m generalising here) is his competitiveness and aggression. Serong’s will continue to fight and not be shut out and drop his head.

While it's true that Serong played mid this year, he did play full time forward the past few years, and his rise up the draft board is because of the midfield aptitude he displayed this year. He has shown he can definitely do both at U/18's level.

He’s not gonna be a Charlie Cameron type small forward but he looks to me like a Toby Greene type small forward.
And they are just as valuable
