List Mgmt. Pick 9

As always, I'd LOVE to see what our current board is looking like.

From what we know of SOS, it's probably starts off like this...

1 - McAsey
2 - Worrell
3 - De Koning
4 - Hilder
5 - Rowell

:)

He played small forward last year, he only moved into the midfield this year so has shown he can play both roles.

The thing that sets out Serong from most specialist small forwards (I’m generalising here) is his competitiveness and aggression. Serong’s will continue to fight and not be shut out and drop his head.
Thanks for clarifying for me, that makes me feel better about his potential selection knowing that.

Without the acl injury where does everyone have kemp in rankings

I’m no draft expert, but I would have him around the top 3 on talent. Think slightly behind Rowell and Green.

To me Kemp is just a natural footballer with many tricks and proven to step up in big moments already. Reminds me of Charlie Curnow, but quicker and more suited to midfield.

Just saw this on fox, this can't be right can it?
Carlton: Can’t trade their future first-round selection as they don’t hold a 2020 fourth-round pick.
While
Geelong: Can trade two 2020 first-round pick, as they have acquired two (West Coast’s and their own) and have a full allotment of 2020 future selections
Hawthorn: Free to trade any future selection as they currently hold a full allotment of 2020 picks
Collingwood: Free to trade any future selection as they currently hold a full allotment of 2020 picks.

3 teams who have hardly had a first round pick in years are free to trade but the blues who have loaded up on the draft in recent years are hamstrung by not having a future 4th?

He also hasn’t had proper preseasons due to playing cricket in summer. Think with a preseason at AFL level and maybe dropping some weight, he could be faster, more explosive and more agile.

Some of the negatives peoples are saying he has

I'm firmly on the Serong train. Fills a need and is extremely highly rated. He was on the road to the draft podcast and it sounded like he's good mates with Thompson Dow and.....Jye Caldwell.

So if Young is actually on the board come pick 9 on draft night, wonder if that changes the value of what other clubs are willing to part with for the selection?

If Young is still on the board at 9 .....I really hope we can get our hands on Carlton's pick 9 to select him.....;)

Just wonder whether Bergman will be the Fyfe of this draft. “How the hell did he last that long.” In juniors for moment it’s as much about what they do wrong as what they do right.

Would we back the ability to build a tank into Bergman Vs back making Serong faster and teach him decision making and execution by foot?

What is Bergman's body language like?

Is he not getting much of the ball because he A) is unfit B) is lazy or C) doesn't have the footy IQ to get involved in the play

A can be solved, B is harder to solve, C is almost never solved

Bonkers if true

Some great opinions and analyses here people. Haven’t researched a whole lot myself this time ‘round but I’m definitely picking up a feel for each of our potential options.
If we could get;
Serong to become a Toby Greene; Kemp to recover from the ACL and be a Bont as someone suggested;
Young to spot up lateral options going forward making our forward line so much harder to defend and rebound from ( I like this);
Bergman to get his hands on the pill more often with his score involvements from the back half ( could he be the new Kade Simpson?);
Robertson to be another bull to give Cripps (and Stocker I feel) a hand.
Etc, etc
Gee there are some exciting possibilities. Having pick 9 ( if not traded) I feel SOS will opt for need moreso than the best rated talent available. Any of those would do nicely!

Young is strong overhead and wins physical battles. Not sure how quick and how much run and carry he provides.

A Vlastuin with better foot skills? Handy player.

Young topped the agility test and was 3.02 for 20m sprint. So speed is excellent. Decent yo-yo results too.

So he is quick, fit, good in one-on-ones, has quick hands, makes good decisions and is an elite kick. I liked his AFL profile interview too. Seems a really good kid.

Maybe a less running version of Heath Shaw? (who I think was a brilliant, underrated HBF). I hate to compare kids to the very best, but perhaps a bit Whitfield-esque? (At this stage the HBF rebounding, playmaking element that Whitfield started off with, less the wing/I50 element he added with time)

I doubt SOS trades Pick 9 unless there’s something seriously good on offer - he loves the elite end. Geelong’s 3 highish picks for 9 and a later pick would probably apply, if we could pull that off.

Interesting hearing Young might slip. I never considered him at the absolute top echelon of this draft, but he’s got traits that are loved by recruiters. GWS are looking to replace Shaw it seems, and Ash is probably closer stylistically than Young.

I think we will retain the pick given who is available, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see us package up some picks for a pick in the 20-30 range.

Young reminds me of Heppell in his draft year (better kick though), and probably comes in a performs to a high standard straight away on a half back flank.

He looks more a career half-back though given his ability to intercept and obviously his elite kicking skills and vision. He probably has scope to move into the midfield, but like Doc, he’s best utilised where his traits come to the fore.

There is no chance he'll slip through to our pick...
But, if he does, we'll take it and run :D

IF you trade your future first, you can't trade out of any future rounds.

IF you keep your future first, you can trade out of any/all of your future rounds.

Them's the rules from the beginning.

The AFL has tried to stop teams from going hail mary and sacrificing their future. As usual their intent is sound but their implementation is messy and heavy-handed.

In our situation, the solution is pretty simple. If we were to trade out next year's first, we'd just get someone to send us a (pretty useless) future fourth as part of the deal.

Simples.

gee if young slides to our pick......
I’ll run naked down Bourke street

Neither will happen

I REALLY want to see windows1 run naked down Bourke street....

What?!? Wait!!! I mean.....That came out badly. I mean because of Young sliding, obviously....

*blushing*

I really should have just said I would love Young to slide to our pick....

That doesn't cover "if you trade out a future 4th you can't trade out your future 1st"

"The AFL has tried to stop teams from going hail mary and sacrificing their future." And yet Hawthorn's most recent first round draftee still on their list is from 2010 but they can still apparently trade their future 1st.

It's basically my first sentence, but rearranged.

Toby Greene is a f*n gun, but what separates him from others is his aerial ability. If he didn’t have that he wouldn’t be playing forward.

Does Serong have that ability?

One of Serongs biggest strength is his overhead marking and strength in one on one contests

One of the key strengths all the analysts highlight about Serong is his overhead and one-on-one marking ability.

From Knightmare's phantom draft (emphasis mine):
"Strong ball winner and tackler through the midfield. Serong is just as good up forward with his ground ball-winning and aerial marking causing problems for opposition sides."

From AFL Profile:
"Prolific ball winning small midfielder/forward with his one-touch marking overhead and clean hands at ground level features of his game. A powerful athlete with a penetrating kick, he has been outstanding over the last two years in representative matches using his tough, physical approach to win possession."

From Cal Twomey's player rankings:
"He can also press forward and hit the scoreboard, while his overhead marking and spring for a player his size gives him an extra skill."

It's basically my first sentence, but rearranged.

IF you trade out any future later rounds, can't trade out your future first round.
Which gives it a very different meaning.

The idea that trading out a pick that often doesn't even get used can prevent you from trading a future first is ridiculous.
