Kicking is a skill and practicing a skill will make you improve. DE% for a 17-18 year old that hasn't even been drafted yet is the most useless discussion ever.

So, are Geelong keen on Kemp or is that a hypothetical?
"The Cats have an interest in gaining access to the top 10, where they could pick a range of players, including 193cm utility Brodie Kemp, who has been schooled locally at Geelong Grammar. "

Serong or Stephens, please. Not keen on swapping pick 9 for two later picks as i doubt Weightman/Pickett will be around Geelong/Ports picks.
me too - handy 5th post to be agreeing with me so early on..........

Fair point, SQ. Its an interesting wider discussion: what can you teach/learn in the AFL environment (reasonably) and what is (near) impossible to teach?

Probably an age old 'tangible skills' vs 'intangible qualities'

I'd say from the former: kicking, improved running ability, basic skills, shot for goal, technique, consistency
and from the latter: raw speed and acceleration, football IQ, class, leadership, character, work ethic

A few of these are subjective and there would no doubt be plenty of examples of kids who've developed or worked on those intangible qualities, but are just harder to pick up.

Seems like recruiters value a range and combination of both in their ideal players as well.

Cripps wasn’t a good kick at all when we drafted him, that and his lack of speed are what let him get to us at 13 so can definitely be improved upon, based on this and the fact that he is also a WA and a leader I would take Robertson if still available as I think him and Cripps would really work well together and Robertson would improve his deficiency’s quickly with Cripps at his side.

Has anyone else noticed the inordinate number of small mid/forwards in this draft between 175-179cm have never seen so many and think there are going to be a lot of disappointed boys after the draft as I can’t see them all getting drafted even though a large number of them have the talent, as we’ve seen with our club teams are loath to play sub 180 players in the guts where a lot of them play the majority of there footy, a complete contrast to other years where there are usually an abundance of mids between 183-192, strange.

Young topped the agility test and was 3.02 for 20m sprint. So speed is excellent. Decent yo-yo results too.

So he is quick, fit, good in one-on-ones, has quick hands, makes good decisions and is an elite kick. I liked his AFL profile interview too. Seems a really good kid.

Maybe a less running version of Heath Shaw? (who I think was a brilliant, underrated HBF). I hate to compare kids to the very best, but perhaps a bit Whitfield-esque? (At this stage the HBF rebounding, playmaking element that Whitfield started off with, less the wing/I50 element he added with time)
Ferris remember all those nights out when you stared at the good looking girls......

Same outcome here mate. It’s not happening.

Don't know what you are talking about.

I ended up with a #1 pick at a very early age.

According to The Age, Stewie Dew is redhot for Deven Robertson. Along with Geelong apparently being redhot for McAsey, maybe this gives us 2 realistic options of trading down if we want to on the night if either or both are still there at 9.

Personally i think we'll use 9, but if they come knocking hard enough....

Still think our dear friends are looking for the quid pro quo. Give them 9 for 15 and 20 and they promise to leave Martin.

Whether my instinct is true is irrelevant to your chat.

So to your chat: would ya take it? 15 and 20 for 9?

I'm not convinced they have the capacity to meet the terms of Martin's contract.

I also have a feeling Port will provide the most favourable trade should Stephens be available at our selection.

15 and 20 could drop as low as 18 and 23 depending on when the Finn Maginness bid comes in. I think there is a high chance that the tier 3 players in the draft we might want (Bergman, Weightman, Sharp, maybe C Stephens) are gone by then and as such poses too much of a risk.

If for arguments sake those picks became 17 (pushed by Green & Henry) & 23 (pushed again by Maginness), who are you picking with them?

You know how the answer to this goes. It depends who's there at 9 and who you project will get to 15 and 20.

But to answer your question...sorta...if it were me...if Robertson and Kemp were there i would like to use 9. If they weren't, i would trade down and be fairly confident of getting Pickett at 15 and very confident of getting Williams at 20. I'd love 2 shots at that medium/small forward we need and both could be stars.

There's a thousand answers to every query 5 days before a draft. It's great fun.
