List Mgmt. Pick 9

Wonder if the Cats would do 9 + future 2nd for 14 + future first.

Would guarantee them Kemp who otherwise won’t get past the Hawks, and still gives us a chance at catching a ‘slider’ in Stephens/Serong or taking Weightman/Pickett at a more reasonable pick.

The rumoured trade of 9 for 17 + future first does seem more likely and I’d be happy with that too.

I think trading 9 for Port's 12 plus change could be a super deal.

Lots of assumptions here, but let's say McAsey is still on the board, we are not keen but both Port and Hawks are.

Port pick McAsey at 9. Melbourne Pickett at 10 (which we see as a reach). Hawks pick someone - maybe someone we want, maybe not.

We drop 3 spots, but only really one live spot.

If there's two players we like still available at 9, then we are guaranteed one of them at 12 (assuming Hawks don't live trade out).

So we get one of our targets and an extra pick for free.

All this live trading stuff has F'ed up the fun of Phantoms but gee it adds a lot of interest right up to and through the draft.

You never never know.

Exactly. Who cares for reading peoples Phantoms?
All for reading peoples power ratings but not so much about some educated predictions where players may get to. Does that even matter?

Live trading sure does make it interesting, as so much can come about.
I can't though see the AFL allowing more than one year of trading future picks. Not sure it would work in our sport.

I love it for the flexibility it gives teams.

Say theres a guy you love, who you think will go late first round.

You have picks 5 and 30 - which are too early and too late. Traditionally you don't draft him. Even though you really want to.

But with live trading you can get the guys you want not just the guys available at your picks, which are often ~18 picks apart.

Phantoms are still useful even if made somewhat redundant by live trading.

I've been focusing my efforts on guys rated 5-10 because we currently have pick 9.

Even if we end up trading pick 9, my (limited research) can help form my opinion on the trade.
Eg I wish we'd picked Stephens instead of Mr 15 and Mr 20... Or I think Mr 15 is a good substitute to choosing Serong at 15 PLUS we got Mr 20.

Of course my opinion on the trade means F all. But us pretending our opinions mean something is why Bigfooty exists...

I've just looked at the draft holistically this year. I've always done that as it interests me to rate the players i like and i don't like, and it also interests me what 18 clubs do, not just 1.

Plus after Stocker last year, that just shows why it's silly even if you are only interested in 1 club to concentrate on 1 Pick No. because you might end up with a completely different number or numbers.

As interested viewers, as we all here are to varying extents, it's all action and does hold your interest the way it is now.

Bit different to Nat Southby giving us our picks in every round 3 days before the draft.

Seems like it is shaping like this i think:

1. Rowell
2. Anderson
3. Mel Jackson
4, GWS Ash
5. GWS Green
6. Syd Flanders
7. Ade McAsey
8. Fre Young
9. Fre Robertson
10. Car Serong
11. Mel Pickett

Wonder whether Stephens would be the better fit for Freo over Young.
In the last 12 months Freo have lost their centreline :
Hill Neale Langdon
Robertson would be the Neale replacement in the engine room and Stephens would start on a wing.

Personally, i think Young is a full level above Stephens as an AFL player.

But opinions aside, i think that list is how it is shaping up. Balmer made a point of saying it looks like Stephens and Kemp and Weightman would be there at Hawthorns pick. I think Twomey will confirm same.

At a gues beyond that i'd guess it may go

Haw Bergman
Port Stephens
WB Weightman
Gee Kemp

Stephens would be a nice little get for Port at 12.
Another local on the back of Rozee last year.
Good for Port supporters in the local SA banter wars especially with crows fans convinced Lukosius and Rankine were mere formalities to join 🤣🤣🤣

Kemp slipping to the cats at 14 would be criminal. He’s an absolute gun and it’s a shame he’s not more of a need for us.

We (or Hawthorn, Melbourne, Port etc.) have to make them earn him if they want him.

Honestly if Dylan Stephens goes past pick 11 I am not even going to bother watching junior footy next year. It would be a clear sign I have absolutely zero idea. Which of course is probably the case...

Just like Selwood so many years ago.

He hasn’t lost any talent and being 18 can be afforded plenty of time. Someone’s gonna get a steal.

Can’t recall Selwood having a knee reconstruction at 18yo.
We’ve already got Docherty, Setterfield and Curnow on knee watch and Kemp although very talented, isn’t a player of need.
We have good coverage right across the field in every position bar one.
Serong would be the conservative call for that position with our pick but Pickett could be the jackpot selection ...
