Plenty of premiership players without an "elite" quality other than can football.
Pendlebury, Hodge, Swan, Barry, that West Coast bloke that kicked the winning goal, Ellis, Butler... Grigg even. Half the Bulldogs list.
And hard to believe that players like Ablett Snr an d Buckley never won a flag.

Anyway here's hoping that whoever we end up with helps bring us that next premiership as a Carlton player

Balmer and Twomey both rate Serong at 4. He absolutely fills a need as a small forward who can go into the guts.

Yup I’m stuck on Young’s kicking too, intelligently penetrating a real weapon with a robust attacking style of play not easily push off his target.

Serong would be effective too, a tenacious sml forward bustling about we need to boot can play center and has a good hunger for he ball a trait that can’t be taught.
I’d don’t think we can go wrong with either option Serong, Young or Stephens especially considering Stocker is part of the final outcome also, Silvagni did very well.

Elite what though?
Neither can run or kick that brilliantly. Tackle? I don't think so.
If anything Hodge was an elite sniper. That's it.
They have great smarts and can put it all together and help the team more than others.
That's their superpower.

Reckon Serong, Stephens and Robertson might each be that sort of player.

Underwhelmed by our apparent potential picks at 9. Not Boekhorst levels of under whelm by any means, but underwhelmed nevertheless.

Guess i'm left to hoping McAsey slips and Cats or GC come with 14 and 17/24 or 15 and 20. Apparently we've already knocked back 15 and 20 but that might change on the night if our preferred picks have gone before 9.

Think at this stage i'd like 2 picks at the cherry rather than 9 alone, considering at this stage i'd probably prefer who's left at 14/15 than who we're likely to spend 9 on. Serong and Stephens don't grab me. Not as Top 10's anyways.

Not long to wait to see how it plays out now. And then just 10 short years later we'll be able to conclusively determine whether we got it right or not!

Only sense of it I have is that the Blues would be pretty open to trading down, as I know we've shown some interest in guys who would fall between 9 and 42 (or whatever our second one is).

The write ups on Serong, Stephens, Young, Robertson or even Kemp all sound reasonably promising, though, so if we walk away with one of those that we like it seems OK to me.

Can't have too many midfielders, nor guys who can actually kick the thing. So if there's anyone available who can do both, that'd be sweet.

Based on the various phantoms and barass70 tip of "Stephens, Young or Serong " for us it is highly improbable that one of them won't be available at 9

Why would any club offer those 2 picks for pick 9. There doesn’t appear to be anything special available at pick 9? Serong etc look ok but I doubt clubs will offer 2 slightly lower picks for 1 slightly higher pick. Maybe if we had a top 5 pick to offer.

Yep. I think he’s terrific. Not perfect. Would like him ever so slightly cleaner. But he’s no Jordan Russell. Which reminds me. I wrote him off after one VFL game. I got slaughtered on here for it.

Fumblers have a terrible time of it. It also seems to be a skill that really doesn’t improve a lot. Even harder to improve than kkciking. Or pace. Although I do like the saying “training can make you quickER, but it can’t make you QUICK”.

It would be for McAsey. If the Crows take him, highly unlikely that a trade gets done.
