Opening up the draft hand for clubs to hoard picks really helps with two academy players here.

A 4th round pick next year which at best for Adelaide would be the same value as the 4th they traded to us with their 3rd, it's a great deal for us.

No idea what the theory behind this one is...some Binuk magic perhaps, or we aren't going to need these picks at all for matching bids on Borlase or Newchurch?

In 24 hours the Crows did this:

OUT: 56, 63, 66, Future 4th (Dees)
IN: Future 4th (Freo)

Seems... Odd.

Looks to me like they are taking four picks in the draft and don't rate their academy players above pick #40 which they might also flog for capital elsewhere

I dont mind it to be honest. Only had 3 half decent picks in this draft.

Happy to give up our 2021 4th rounder to get picks 56 and 63.

That trade in points value is worth more than Jesse Hogan.

Quite simple concept behind this. Adelaide only taking 3/4 picks into the draft with list size reductions and getting into next year's draft which has depth unlike this year. Otherwise picks 56 and 66 would've been forfeited. Freo need points for their academy player(s). Unfortunate circumstances to get those picks in and then not be able to use them properly.

In reality, this year's draft might only have 45 picks in the national draft.

that maybe so due to various reasons.

So on average. Most teams will recruit 3-4 kids on draft night leather than the usual 5-6 guys
