Pick Swap Completed

dont mind it as long as the draft next year is as weak and compromised as everyone says. Better off trading hard now for draft picks and going all out at established good players next year.

Edit: Bring in schofied next year anyway. So 1 A grade draft kid. Happy to take a punt at 2 later picks, just grab the 2 tallest players late in the draft and start developing like we are with grundy.

I think it’ll work out OK. If you consider that Pick 29 might’ve been burnt on Mead, who we can get with the later picks anyway, we’ve essentially just used our 2020 first rounder to buy another ticket in this year’s first round.

If we finish 10th again as per tradition it’s a roughly even swap if next year’s draft is as poo as people seem to think it is.

Ive heard one recruiter call next year ‘potentially the worst ever’ plus the fact there are a lot of nga picks. What we’ve done is ensure, at the moment, that we get Schofield and Jones for not a whole lot, which is good.

If we land on pick 10, similar to this year, that probably gets pushed out to 13 or 14 at the moment anyway.

Its really a decent deal

It's pretty bad....

Fundamentally, when your assumption i we finish bottom 6 everything seems bad about a future pick trade.... and that's probably true.

How do you see the trade IF the following two statements hold true:
* Pick 29 would have been needed to be used on Mead
* We finish the same spot as last year (meaning our pick probably sits mid teens due to academy and F/S selections https://www.afl.com.au/news/2019-09-05/will-the-2020-draft-be-the-most-compromised-in-history)

If we win 14 games in my expected 10-14 wins in 2020 then it's a good deal if the 2020 draft is as heavily compromised as the so call experts tell us. If we only get pick 10 and then there are a couple of compo adjustments its still ok.

I really don't know enough about the draft to melt, or be happy with this. But what I do know is that just comparing numbers in a calculator doesn't take into account each club's short and long term recruiting strategies. Just because A+B+C<X+Y+Z doesn't mean that ABC won't be more valuable to us in the context of our recruitment strategy. And that, is something no one here has any idea about. With the exception of C4, possibly.

So pick 13/14 + 29 -> pick 16 is a good deal for you based on the disparity in quality between this and next year's drafts?

For the record if it did have sat a top 3/5 pick protection I'd be more inclined to get excited

It also hurts or Lukosius Capital

If it’s likely that Mead gets bid on before 29, and we want him, it’s more like 13/14 next year + Mead vs. 16 this year + Mead (who we can get with the later junk picks).

In this context it looks fine.

Jesus it's trendy to be miserable about everything around here. I have a good feeling this will work out in our favour, especially with how strange a draft next year looks like being. Bring in some quality kids within a couple of years of eachother and build the next team around them, I think that's pretty smart thinking personally whether we trade up further or not.

Father/sons in 2020:

2020 - Oscar Lade
2020 - Owen Montgomery
2020 - Taj Schofield
2020 - Noah Wilson

Schofield likely round 1 pick. We would have to use our 2nd round pick and later picks I guess.

The Port board: "F**k Port, Hoff, Boak, Gray, Rockliff, Ebert, Hartlett, Dixon, Jonas, Motlop, Watts, etc. are all close to the wrong side of 30. WTF aren't we recruiting replacements?"

Also the Port board: "F**k Port, why are they trading to get three first round picks this year? That never works"
That's not what's happening at all.

Yeah we traded out one of the most promising young kpps in the league to get into the first round. Not really helping with the geriatric end of our list profile.
