Is it just me or...

I don't think we will end up having pick 1 to begin with. I don't think we end up with the spoon.
Biggest factor in being able to taste success is putting your best or near to best side on the park most weeks .
Given the evidence at hand from the outside looking in re injuries also recurring injuries i have no confidence this year we can do that .
Or atleast until the bye of which we have a tough run till then .
Guess the brissi game up there will be a big one and could decide the outcome but id think we are odds on for the spoon .

We are pathetic that we want more top draft picks when we already are loaded with the draft talent.

If we can't improve with what we already have then what chance are we?

As it stands there's only a few clubs with a combination of picks of interest:
  • Adelaide: 9 (1469), 16 (1027), 19 (948) for 3484 total.
  • Brisbane: 2 (2517) & 20 (915) for 3432 total.
  • Gold Cast: 6 (1878), 17 (1025), 22 (845) & 31 (606) for 4354 total.
I would think Brisbane would rather keep 2 & 20 and get 2 good early hits rather than go for the #1 pick. I reckon GCS might be similar, both clubs are still young like us.

Adelaide would probably rather do 9, 16 & 37 for 1. You could maybe throw in a future to or 34 to get the 9, 16, 19 suite but then there's the debate of the first pick versus 1 good pick and 2 decent ones.

Port has an ok hand (8, 21, 26) but nothing you'd consider for 1. Perhaps 1 & change for Wines & 8 but not a pure picks swap.

The other thing to consider, alongside the picks each clubs holds changing over the course of the season, is that SOS tends to not show up for the first few days so by the time we start making deals other clubs may have done their own pick swapping.
How about ...

- Gold Coast lose Lynch and get Pick 7 following Pick 6 as things stand.

- We take Sloane as a FA. 4 years @ $850k. Front load and taper off over the 4 years (doesn’t matter if it’s us, another club will). Anyway, Adelaide gets first round compo after it’s first pick. As it stands, Adelaide gets Pick 18 as well as its other Picks (10, 17 and 20).

- We would have Picks 1, 25 and 35.

- Pure pick swaps ...
Adelaide gives up its picks 10, 17, 18 and 20, and its 2019 first rounder
Gold Coast gives up its picks 6 and 7, and its 2019 first rounder
Brisbane gives up its picks 2 and 21 and its 2019 first rounder
We give up Picks 1, 25 and 35, and our 2019 first rounder ...

We get picks 2, 17 and 20 and Adelaide’s 2019 first rounder.
Adelaide gets picks 1, 7 and 35 and Brisbane’s 2019 first rounder
Brisbane gets picks 6, 18 and 25 and Gold Coast’s 2019 first rounder
Gold Coast gets picks 10, 21 and our 2019 first rounder.

A simpler version might look like ... (remember it is SOS simpler)

We give up 1, 25 and 35 and our 2019 first
Adelaide gives up 10, 17, 18 and 20 and its 2019 first
Brisbane gives up picks 2 and 21 (Keeps its 2019 first)
Gold Coast gives up pick 7 (keeps pick 6 and 2019 first)

We get picks 2, 17, 21 and Adelaide’s 2019 first.

Brisbane gets picks 7, 18 and 25.
Gold Coast gets picks 10 and 20.

Not perfect I know, spitballing to be honest, but we have SOS and this is what it might look like on a whiteboard somewhere ... cue ferrisb

So what you're saying is:
We give up 1, 25 and 35 and our 2019 first (#1 to 4)
In return for picks 2, 17 and 20 and Adelaide’s 2019 first rounder. (#16 to 18)

While Adelaide gives up 10, 17, 18 and 20 and its 2019 first (#16 to 18)
In return for picks 1, 7 and 35 and Brisbane’s 2019 first rounder (#1 to 4)

A simpler version would be no ******* way. :D

All hypothetical of course but perhaps consider it more what would Adelaide want for its 4 picks at 10, 17, 18 and 20 in a reportedly bonza Draft, and what can we do with 1, 25 and 35. Difficult without a third or fourth club.

I wonder how far sos would be willing to drop back in the first round. Is it pick 2 or pick 5 etc. If we did want the best midfielder would he be willing to take pick 5 + something. Pick 5 may not get the player we want.

That’s the difficult part, there may be only a few clubs you can trade with that can make sure your first pick is where you want it.

I'd still pick the best available with our first but that gives us a change of nabbing a midfielder with that second pick. Pick 2 and 20 might be better than pick 1 and an early third rounder, for instance. It would depend on who a club is targeting and the difference in talent between the top two in the draft. However, we may not even finish last, as BCFC noted.

I'm confident we'll at the very least finish above Brisbane.

Hell, the way Saints & Essendon are travelling we might even finish above them as well. Both teams seem to have lost their spirit and aren't playing for their coaches so it's possible.

We will finish bottom 4 though - but from what i've read we'll get a good player with any of those picks.

As long as we get one of Walsh, Smith or Rankine, I am extremely happy.

Plenty will change and this class of midfielders will begin to declare themselves at champs, but we'll be getting a top-liner that will impact from day 1.

I'd like another first round pick to finish off the last of our deep draft assaults, but that may hinge on a possible PP or player trade.

just can't see how. Won't get a PP and we have nothing worth trading especially in a draft that is rated so highly. 1st round picks are gold and won't be traded easily

Just for reference, it originally would have been: 2, 20, 38 and 56 at this point, so we're pretty much treading water in terms of the overall value with this years hand, we've just weighted it more towards the top 30.

We are a winner either way

Sure, but an Adelaide win is better.

Adelaide will make finals, so their pick is tied to where they finish after finals.

The Dogs won’t be making finals this year, so the more they lose, the better it is.

Adelaide seems to have depth across the park - but could use another superstar and really want their local lad.

Based on your round 7 values, I could see ADE overpay on a trade of #1 (Luk) 3000pts for #9 (1469), #16 (1067) and #19 (948).

Effectively CFC trade the best KPF prospect ever seen for 3 solid quality players in a deep draft (or trades).

Maybe trade #16 (1067pts) and #34 (542pts) for Wines(PA)(=pick #7) to reduce our reliance on kids, but still rebuild with 3 selections 9, 19 and 23 plus BSOS, etc.
Sorry. I just can’t palate any scenario that nets us pick 19.
