Post my mock I get a lot questions from people asking me who I think will go at our various selections etc and I always find it difficult bc I dont really know what CFC priorities are in terms of players. So to answer it I thought I would put down some groupings of players I think may still be around in each of the position categories at each selection.

To that end you can make up your own mind about what you think the priorities are and who might fill those positions. Clearly you can add your own players but for those that go from what they read this will help you prioritise it.

For instance I think the Pies will be looking for a Mid, KPF, KPD and Mid / Med Backand. IN the rookie I think they will go after another KPD and a mid and either a medium fwd or back (whichever they didnt take in the ND).

Would be interested in what order and players you would take.

Mine would be

# 30 - Midfielder - Moore

Would be happy with any of Moore, Carey, Thomas, Bartlett

# 62 - KPF - Temel

WOuld be very keen to get Temel and we are talking to him so have some hope here.

# 75 - KPD - Luff

Would love it if Donaldson here but realistically probably wont be so wouldnt mind Tighe or Luff if possible

# 85 - Medium Back- Ledin *If Weedon was here I wouldnt think twice*

Roberts would be great here but happily settle for Tutt, Long, Beams, Ledin, Sewell, Page

Mine's probably a little cliche, but still, these are the players I believe we should take in the draft next week;

Pick 30 - Josh Thomas (If Luke Ball isn't available), Taylor if Thomas is taken

Pick 62 - Serhat Temel (Big strong forward, project player)

Pick 75 - Beams or Sewell (Although I doubt Sewell will last this long)

Pick 85 - Matthew Fowler or Beams (If we took Sewell, take Beams here).

Okay I will Do This:

Pick 30:

1- Key Position Defenders - Donaldson, Carlisle (unlikely), Astbury, Craig, Hartigan, Reid, Dare, Grimes

2- Midfielders - Thomas, Moore, Bartlett, Carey, Crichton, Sheppard, Hutchings, Gysberts, McMillan-Pittard, Harwood, McNeil, Colyer

3- Key Position Fwds - Panos (unlikely), Griffiths (unlikely), Fitzpatrick, T.Taylor, Carlisle, Astbury, Hill

Pick 62:

2-

Nice selections and wouldnt bother me at all if that was it but not worried about the Key Defenders?

What I want to know is what type of player you would go with at each selection.

Am sensing you want;

# 30 - KPD

# 62 - KPF

# 75 - Ruck

Want you to commit to what you want. Just pick one for each.

Mine with Just a Few Players would be.

Pick 30 : Troy Taylor/Luke Ball/Josh Thomas/Dare/Sam Reid

Pick 62: Temel/McDonald/S Shaw/Carey/Grimes

Pick 75: Hayward/Weedon/Tighe/Pitt/Hill

Pick 82: Sewell/Beams/S Taylor/M Taylor/Daw

Nice selections and wouldnt bother me at all if that was it but not worried about the Key Defenders?

I think we are set for young Key Defenders, with Ben Reid and Nathan Brown more then ready to take over, and even Blight could play a key role.

I see the forward line as a large problem in the future, with Davis, Medhurst, Rocca (gone already obv) leaving the area in the next 2-3 years, and I have serious concerns over Dawes and his development.

I really like the look of Fowler as a medium forward in the Medhurst mold, and Temel can be a cover for Dawes.

Thomas' engine is one factor that stands out to me, and I can see him developing into a very good inside mid long term.

Beams would just be a nice selection to have at the club, ensuring his brother's long term future too.:)

Sorry Then

# 30 : KPD/Mid

# 62 : KPD/KPF

# 75 : KPD/KPF

# 82 : Best Avaliable

Based on your lists:

#30: Sheppard/ Moore (Would prefer sheppard, lighting fast out of defence)

#62: Harwood/ Menzel/ Grimes (Harwood would be my dream pick at 62, has incredible inside skills and awareness)

#75: Hooper/ Temel (Hooper is ready made and would mean he can take a scrapping forward and free up O'Brien to play bigger)

#85: Temel/ Dennis-Lane (Temel is a real forward, and if available here would be fantastic, can also play back. Dennis-Lane would also be nice here).

More realistically though: Will be somethign more like:

# 30: Ball/ Taylor/ Thomas

# 62: Carey/ Temel/ Thompson

#78: Thompson/ McDonald

#92: Tutt/ Pitt

Mine with Just a Few Players would be.

Pick 30 : Troy Taylor/Luke Ball/Josh Thomas/Dare/Sam Reid

Pick 62: Temel/McDonald/S Shaw/Carey/Grimes

Pick 75: Hayward/Weedon/Tighe/Pitt/Hill

Pick 82: Sewell/Beams/S Taylor/M Taylor/Daw

Reid and Dare not so sure they are on our radar. Dare could go higher, but probably not what we need. And we have on Reid so don't need another long term key position prospect if we want our premiership window now.

S Shaw not that high on, too skinny for key position, another logn term guy who would fit what we are trying to achieve.

Hayward and Hill not that high on.

Beams/ Taylor/ Tayor/ Daw might be able to do better than.

*Otherwise the other half of your ideas are about right*

Could possibly add Tutt to that list, we are looking at him with pick 78 apparently.

Josh Thomas

Michael Barlow

Myles Pitt

Simon Buckley

Pick 30: Thomas. I think clubs undervalue those kids outside the states of Vic, SA, and WA, and I think Thomas looks to be a great in and under line breaker, something we don't have.

Others: Be happy with any of Panos, Griffiths or Crichton if they slip. Crichton has that great natural playing ability inside and out.
Personally I would be unhappy with Fitzpatrick, we don't need a tall skinny ruck, and a major flaw is he has chronic fatigue syndrome which will severely restrict the amount of running and weights he can do, would prefer Gawn if we went ruck. Another is Troy Taylor, been in trouble with the law, and said to have poor work ethic and I don't see the amazing ability as some do, plus we have an overflow of flankers.

Pick 62: Temel. Might as well draft the big man, as we are lacking KPF in reserves besides Dawes. These picks will be hit and miss, and I am not expecting a champion from these last few picks.

Pick 75: Ah Chee. Leading disposal winner at the champs, with 26 disposals per game, he however was not invited to draft camp and thus could slip through to the rookie draft, though he did really well at SA State screening. I think he could become a great AFL tagger as he has the speed and endurance to do so, could be a steal.

Pick 85: Sewell. I'd prefer to go a mature ager with this pick, instead of waiting for the pointless PSD. Sewell still needs to put some serious weight on as he still looks fairly skinny.

I still think our biggest priority is to get a KPD > KPF > Quick mid with good footskills.

Problem is there doesn't seem to be too many top quality KPD in the draft and it also seems thin on outside mid type players.

This is how i'd go:

Pick 30: Ball > Panos > Griffiths > Moore > Bartlett > Thomas

The problem being there is every chance those guys will be picked up earlier but then I guess there is a good chance atleast one will slide.

Pick 62: Hartigan (is this too low??) > Tighe > Temel

I have the feeling we will go midfielder with our first selection unless Panos or Griffiths fall. In that case it's a good chance that we will look for a KP type at 62. After Presti retires outside of Reid and Brown we don't have any KPD depth to speak of. Leigh Brown is a short term option, Keeffe may develop into this role but is still a long shot, Goldsack doesn't seem to have the body type to play as a KPD. My priority would be KPD.

Pick 75: Robertson > Beams

Gotta say Snoop your mock sold me on Robertson. Another mid prospect looking at good kicking skills and pace is what i'd be after here. Or if we pick one up earlier perhaps an inside type as there is good depth in this draft and chances are a good player may fall.

Pick 82: Harding > Buckley > Sewell

I think we may look to some experience with a later pick. I think Harding is a good option as he adds speed to our midfield. Buckley perhaps to try and mould into a tagger/inside mid and ditto Sewell.

If It's a weak draft as most are suggesting, I think that we'd be stupid to draft on a needs basis. With our lowly picks we need to maximise our chances of picking players that will become AFL standard. Therefore I'd hate it if the recruiters are placing too much emphasis on position played, except perhaps with pick 30, where we might have a choice between a few guys who we think are AFL likely. I also think that we are in a fortunate position of having talented youngsters in each positional area, thus can truly go for best available.

WCE will take Weedon before our first pick, let alone be available in the 60's. LOL.

Anyway, these selections will do ok:

1. L Ball
2. A Kennedy
3. G Roberts
4. M Barlow

at 30 - extractor (Ball) or creative mid (Thomas, Bartlett, Gysberts etc)

at 62 - go tall - possibly a swing KP (Astbury, Donaldson, Temel, Tighe, if any around)

at 70s - if we got Ball at 30, then we may need some line breaking pace here (eg Cowan, Tutt if available here); if we went with that creative pacey mid type at 30, then we will need some mature bodied extraction here or at 80s (Sewell, though he is still pretty light for what we need, Harris)

at 80s - cover for extractor (if no Ball at 30) - Harris (or mature rookie him as I'm not sure anyone is going to pick him up in a real hurry?). If not, Sean Tighe might be a useful KP insurance pick here - KPD/KPF/197 pinch ruck/good leap. I have not seen Claye Beams, but would be disappointed if we picked him as a sop for his brother's loyalty at all. If picked on ability okay, but it seems he might take years to come on.
