Pick your team for Round One

Lyon said former West Coast ruckman Michael Gardiner was no chance to play round one.

He's not far away though from the training reports that I've read.

He had a hernia (called a sports hernia, or inguinal hernia) which needed surgery to correct.
He was fit and had participated in a considerable part of the preseason build up - so he just needs to gain confidence with it now.

Interesting. So with your ruckman. Is Rix still going ok to fill for Gardiner? Or is Rix a member of the 22 regardless?

I think we'll look at playing Clarke, Brooks and Rix until Gardiner is fit.

Brooks has shown that he can take a mark and provide a target in the forward line while the other two will probably rotate in the ruck.

There are plenty of other options though, depending on whether or not Riewoldt plays.

3 ruckman? That's a fair bit...

I don't think Brooks has shown anything to suggest that he's a ruckman at this stage.

With Riewoldt more than likely out of the team and Kosi a chance to play in the backline there's a spot in the forward line available and that's one area where he's shown something.

I would hope that we are not going that bad that we have to call on barry brooks to go into the ruck. Start Clarkey in there (arguably the best tap ruckmen of the last 10 years) and throw rixxy in there after. He just keeps trying and thats what we need. We Gardiner gets back and if he can stay fit i believe we are a 4 -6 goal better side. Absolute massive human being.

On Armitage, he is an out and out superstar. My pick for rising star if Ross "who" Lyon decideds to play him.

I hope we give roo another week. Dont want us going in with so many players under clouds. (kosi, lenny, goose, maxxy) thats alot to carry but i belive roo is a bigger loss that all these players.
