It is always interesting how different people can read the same press releases or documents and interpret them differently. In the information posted on the AFL GM site (as per this link http://www.aflgoulburnmurray.com.au/commission-releases-junior-review-final-report/ ) it states the draft report was released in Nov 7 for feedback and it is from that feedback that the amendments etc were made.
eg "In all, 22 written submissions were received for consideration of the Steering Committee.”
......“When considering the submissions received during the feedback window and the feedback from the Steering Committee the Commission formally adopted 21 of the 27 recommendations with immediate effect.”

“Recommendation 9 has been amended to cater for differences within each League running junior competitions and Recommendations 12 and 13 regarding limiting squad numbers were dismissed as a result of feedback and will be replaced by a Player Sharing Policy which a subcommittee will prepare for adoption by all Leagues.”

I also took from reading that the reason the changes to GVFL and KDL ages was to do with the sustainability of the junior leagues as didn't see anything mentioned about the fact PDFNL was only resigned for 12 months but think it is pertinent that you have made people aware that you were seeking a 3 year agreement and although that was initially agreed to that was later denied.
  • IIRC the initial documentation on the review being undertaken stated the findings would be released by end of 2017 ( October ?? ), likewise further correspondence stated similar time frame for final release.
  • Feedback on area agreements all seemingly ignored, it would also appear as though some of the feedback is a counter argument to others confidential feedback?
Do not support restriction on using permit players during a bye
Do not support allowing up to 6 permit players
Do not support player can play 2 games per weekend
Support
Will Area Agreements be the same in all Leagues?
Do not support permits when home club is not fixtured to play
Do not support players permitted to play 2 games per weekend
Do not support players permitted to play with multiple clubs in one competition
Do not support amount of permitted players to be equal to or greater than 25% of the minimum amount of players required to constitute a match. No greater than 3 per side in any one match
Do not support players being able to play 5 or more permits per year

  • Point 15 and 16 clearly mentions the PDFNL being affiliated for 2019 ( why ??? )
  • Do you really think that anyone involved in the PDFNL would not be concerned about how the " sub committee" members were selected, what knowledge or ability to consider the interests of the PDFNL they have and even furthermore than intent of one member . Let's hope all detail is checked and based on fact, 54 seems to be able to go to 27 very quickly.

I took the feedback about permits was taken into account hence the change been looked into for player sharing instead of limiting/capping squad size?
In relation to Point 15 and 16 I read that as now PDFNL is affiliated let things settle before creating more change/chaos etc - so being considerate to our league
I was told the PDFNL reps on the sub committee were league appointed/approved - is that not the case?

The thing that really shocked me in the document was the threat by AFL NEB to expel clubs from the Wangaratta DJFL if they moved their U16 teams to the GVL comp :poo::mad: very heavy handed big brother behaviour - not a good look in regards to looking after and enhancing the future of the game

Back to real footy issues, getting ready for finals.
Can Strawny kick 20 this week to win the PDFNL Coleman?
Week 1
Waaia v Blighty Bombers too even
Picola v Rovers Picola in form, Rovers in a losing streak
Strathy v Katunga Strathy by default
Berrigan v Rennie Match of the season 2 in form teams, Hoppers just

League medal to McCarty, May or Marshall knowing the umpires but should be to Cogan, Bigger, A Jones or Crestani
Rising Star O'Dwyer in back pocket for hoppers, not scared to stand in the hole and take marks and great delivery
Premiers We'll see

" This subcommittee will consist of Greg Liddell (AFL GM Football Development Manager) Dale Norman (MFL General Manager) and Bree Boyle (AFL GM Junior Competitions & Events) "

Good to see some interesting posts on here for a change, instead of some of the drivel that’s been posted on here this year.

Can anyone see Rovers turning their recent form around in the next couple of weeks? It could be tough for them come finals time, as there are certainly some good sides sitting below them on the ladder at the moment.

I think deni remain a real threat , but unfortunately for them so do another 6 .
Waaia have been the hunted all year, it's never easy to go through a season undefeated.
Deni - their best is brilliant their bad which they appear to be dishing up a bit lately is not good enough, a small tweak and they are a very good chance of winning their first ever senior flag
Picola - Been outstanding and somewhat flying under the radar for the past couple of months.
Blighty - Were in worst form last year and showed they gain a leg in finals.
Strathy - have played most of the year with arguably 4 of their best 5 out. 3 a chance to return on the eve of finals?? to a side who has played in 5 gf's in a row spells danger for their opposition.
Berrigan - very good form the last month and always dangerous in finals. Leg sped on big grounds will be a important.
Rennie - experienced, big bodies who appear to have yet put their best side on the park. Similarly placed last year before going on to win flag.
Katunga - someone must have shot a black cat , injuries have crippled them.

could be the most open finals series in 20 years.

I'm sure the big fella will have 20 kicks.. 20 goals is a big ask

Waaia , picola, strathy, Rennie to win week one
Would love league medal to go to someone new
Idk how many of the better under 18s are eligible for rising star
Premiers: .....

seems like finishing in the top 4 gets u playing on a sunday in finals.what a joke
4 games in 11 different grades involving 13 clubs, at 4 different host venues.
I am sure preference would have been given to ladder position and accomadated when able.
No excuse to alter performance or the result.

Huge effort to get draw to this by league and exec, Rovers have 10 teams in as do Waaia, Rennie 9 and the draw is not controlled by senior footy, we are a footy/netball league and clubs do make good revenue by hosting a final, so trying to balance all criteria not just whinging has/been senior footballers is a solid result

Very interesting. Could understand trying to alter venues for top 4 teams on the Saturday and bottom four on Sunday. But don't agree with clubs finishing lower getting more time to recover before the following weekend
The draft that has been sent out see's the senior sides who play on a given day the 1st week either make their way through to a prelim and have a break the 2nd week or play on the same day next week.
All 7 day break.

Granted , however generally top 4 sides are granted an advantage over 5-8, not an equall playing field.

Top 4 play amongst themselves in the first week in qualifying finals 5-8 play each other in eliminations the first week. Only variation between the proposed and the standard top 5 is the loser of the qualifying in a top 5 gets a 8 day break. It also affords the top side a week off the first week .

top 4 should be on a saturday as usual

the funny things you see and hear in the middle of the night at work....
Ay Browny - hear about the league changing the finals around next weekend?
What do you mean mate?
Theyve sent out something about some clubs having their days swopped
Nah that can't be right - Saturdays are qualifying finals and Sundays are eliminations - they wouldn't change that
Yeah my missis sent me a pick of some new draft draw - have a gander at this
.......So Rennie has all but one of their teams playing at the same place on Sunday regardless of when they finished on the table and everyone else is all over the show, that's a bit unusual
yeah looks that way mate, the missis said she heard someone talking Sat that they might have been gonna swop things around cause hosting clubs were playing at the other venue the same day but not changing days over
Well guess if all the clubs are happy they'll do it but your right looks strange when the league sent out a finals venue draw and all that at the start of the season and everyone knew from then exactly where and when every team would play depending on where they finished on the ladder and probably had been working on co-ordinating supporters trainers players between teams and everything around that,
if thats a draft when is it going to be confirmed as I might have to re-swop shifts again to go watch some of the juniors play

The league may have to look at a super Saturday or mega finals weekend and head back to Barooga like a few years ago. Use the 2 grounds, 3rds and seniors on the main ground, 4th and 2s on the other one. Everyone at the one venue over 1 or 2 days but clubs would have to give something up ($) in order for this to happen.

Clubs have known for weeks that the draw was going to be constructed in a manner to best allow clubs to be at the one venue on the one day ,as well as having the host clubs not playing games at another venue.

or extend the season by a week and only have the qualifying or eliminations on each of the first two weeks.
