An inspired selection if I must say so myself - you don’t know how close I was to going 3 x him to either smash the comp in round 1 or be rotting at the bottomBudarick pick paying off
PIEMAN RESULTS Round 0 (Opening Round) v Brisbane
WB 16.15 111 defeated Brisbane 15.16 106
WB Goals: Bontempelli (3), Darcy (2), Richards (2), Naughton (2), English (2), Budarick, Bramble, West, Williams, Davidson
What a great way to kick off the season. An away against the reigning premiers. And coming from 26 points down too.
For the Pieman it was also a good start. Ten different goalkickers. 42 contestants. No chumps but we did have a couple of mini-chumps.
Pieman Substitutes, Carryovers, Most Popular Picks
There were no Pieman substitutes needed. I'm hoping there won't be so many this year after the AFL moved to have five on the bench and no medical substitute.
There were of course no carryover teams because there was nothing to carry over from. They will start next week.
However there were random teams generated as a concession to two contestants who nominated to play in 2026 but failed to submit a team for this week. They were lateniter and X_box_X who registered 40 points and 14 points respectively. Not great but not the worst either. At least it gets them on the board for 2026.

The KELVIN
Back to his mercurial ways Charlie Bucket has snared the first Kelvin of the year with his 3x English and 2x Richards for a great score of 240. A surprised second was RandomDog (183) who got one of the first mini-chumps of this year's comp, earning him 16 bonus pts. In third was Floridog (170) who tied with Struggle (170). Floridog also got a mini-chump - worth 15 pts.
We still haven't settled on a snappy name yet despite Floridog himself offering up one of the suggestions (Thanks, Floridog!) So it continues to be called a mini-chump for the time being.
It was a tough initiation for first-timer Viva_Loca who was one of only two to register a bagel this week. Don't worry mate, we have all been there. It can only get better from here! Fortunately you have the Doggies win to celebrate instead.
The Kelvin scores below are also the progressive season scores. So Charlie B is our early Pieman leader from RandomDog.

Pieman Player of the Week
The (almost) unloved Budarick was our PPotW. He got 64 for his unlikely goal. grassman75 was the only one who showed him any love. Tim English's late heroics helped him into second spot just ahead of Bontempelli.

No problem. Thanks for getting me on the board, mate.
Completely forgot about it.
Yes no problem Zeno.Sorry dog watch haven't been on for a long time. Can I join from next Rd?
Curiously, RandomDog said exactly the same thing!Huge shout out to Bailey Williams for going through all that trouble to get me my mini chump!
Thanks dogwatchYou did very well with the random team Zeno The Great ... you got Croft (0), Budarick (64), O'Donnell (0), Naughton (14) and Richards (42) for a total score of 120. That has you running 8th in the comp!
Just don't tell any of the others, OK?
I won't bother re-posting the Kelvin table for this week, but rest assured you are in.

Suggest you have a chat with RandomDog. He's been there for the long haul.I wonder if I'd do better if I let dogwatch generate a team for me each week...![]()
