Cant imagine where we would be on the ladder if Reid wasn't fit. Easily one of the best key defenders in the league.

He would have to be in AA calculations.

Not 100% certain of eligibility, but Brayden Maynard should be getting the rising star nomination this week. 22 disposals, 6 tackles and 12 marks. What more does he need to do?

Not play for Collingwood

Pretty ordinary game, expected us to win but didn't expect Freo to as bad as they were so not sure how much of our win was on them compared to how "well" we played, but I thought we weren't that great for the whole game. I saw a few moments where we would've leaked goals from the goal square against better teams.

I just hope we beat Carlton next week, that will bring some redemption for this season. Obviously beating many more teams would be more desirable.

Hope Menadue's 2 goals and 18 disposals doesn't get the nod ahead of Bruzzy.

Pretty sure Rodney is his Uncle and his Dad is Peter Maynard, who played mostly SANFL
My bad
Got it completely wrong.
Sorry folks

Firstly, kudos to those that went to the game - from my beach-side bar in Thailand, it looked pretty cold there!!!

Realistically, on a cold, mid-winter night in Melbourne, you'd expect us to get over a weakened Freo outfit, and we did it 85 to 37, so viewed in isolation, that's a good result, surely.

Our pressure around the ball was mostly good - that needs to be the standard for the rest of the season. Let's see if they have the appetite to back it up for an extended period of games for once.

How much of Freo's woeful disposal was on them and not us is hard to tell, but Reid, Marsh, Howe and Maynard feasted on their poor kicking.

That's by far the best Marsh (100% DE) and Maynard have looked at senior level as both of them looked calmer with ball in hand. I hope they can back it up against better opposition, or in better conditions for forwards.

While talking about the back line, Browny is no Reidy, obviously, but he's dependable with his spoiling of high balls, and does lots of little things like strong shepherding that I value [16 'one per centers'].

Some credit to some other frequent whipping boys:
Greenwood deserves some credit for his relentless competitive side and effectiveness [12 tackles, 5 clearances and 75% DE in the conditions];

Grundy
showed real improvement in his directing of hit outs, admittedly against pretty lame opposition rucks, and continues to be a beast at ground level.

We can argue until the cows come home about their relative value to the team, but there are a number of players in the present team that have real skill limitations. It just looks like they'll stay in the team until there's more consistent competition for spots, and while they do I just expect them to play within their limitations [see Sinclair: 17 disposals at 88.2 DE% this week] and bring full effort [see Blair: 7 effective tackles this week].

And finally, Collingwood football club, please, for the love of God: beat Carlton next week.

That expalins why I forgot the link then. It doesnt exist.

I blame Sainty Viewed of course...but the Adelaide connection also threw me off

Adelaide being a one horse town, having the same surname and football connection leads me to this question....is there any family connection between Rodney and Peter? Cousins perhaps?
It does exist. Brayden's old man was only four games short of the 200 games required at Glenelg to qualify Brayden as a father/son pick for Adelaide.
