Watch the final that he played against Essendon last year. Despite Essendon having their best two rucks of last year playing (Ryder and Hille) Warnock gave both of them a bath. He also held his own the following week in our loss to West Coast.

When it comes to finals I have to say that Robbie has gone 3 for 3 in regards of playing well with the Essendon game being the standout.

I would be absolutely spewing if we lost him to you guys. He'd instantly make your already superb midfield just that much better. He's one of the better tap to advantage rucks in the league when he's firing. Your midfield would be having a field day gobbling up his taps.

Lets give him a big tick for his game against the Bombers then. I wouldn't have either of his other two finals as great games (Jacobs was the one that dominated against the Swans anyway), but we can give them ticks.

In your heart of hearts though is that good enough for a bloke that's been in the system going on 7 seasons with all the hoo har that surrounded his recruitment? Its basically an identical record to Wood except with about 5 extra hitouts per game which for mind doesn't justify going out and trading for him especially when Wood has been an abysmal flop in my eyes.

One last question. What do you think is the best thing for your club going forward Kruezer's mid 20's hitouts with 15-17 possessions or Warnock's 30+ hitouts and 6-8 possessions? We don't need a crab that gets a tonne of hitouts, but gives you nothing around the ground. We need someone that will give it a red hot go at the stoppage and then have an influence around the ground. There aren't too many of them out there and even less are available, but we'd be barking up the wrong tree by chasing him especially if the likes of Giles and Martin are available....

Honestly, I'd prefer to have both Kreuzer and Warnock. I believe at their best that they would be pushing Nic Nat and Cox for the best ruck duo in the competition. That may be skirting the question but from Carlton's perspective it is not. If I was pushed to trade one of our three rucks then it would be Hampson who I would put on the trade table.

I believe that Warnock can have an influence around the ground. I can see on this point we're both going to have differences of opinions both in regards to his ability around the ground and as far as his development which has been of the stop-start nature due to injuries. The past few weeks, when the team was struck down with a mother load of injuries at other positions, was the first time in the four seasons we've had Hampson, Kreuzer and Warnock on the list that we'd been able to pick all of them for the team. Unfortunately, we still have no idea whether that has a chance to work with anything close to our best 22 out on the park.

If Giles were available you'd be crazy not to look at him. The trade value that you'd hand to Carlton in comparison would make the deal not worth it. However, if Warnock is best available ruck then you'd be making a wise investment going for him. However, that's without factoring in the salary hit that you'd have to take on for him which may make all of this discussion entirely mute.

Anybody know how many hitouts Jolly had vs Kreuzer last night?

Looked like to me, Kreuzer was almost jumping over Jolly, at times!

I like the Sydney approach of picking up recycled rucks. For some reason we don't have the Essendon knack of developing our own so this is the next best approach. Long term options simply don't get traded so I like the way we got a Jolly who clearly wasn't going to be a 200 gamer...but he helped us win a flag!

I have no idea of current contract status or anything like that but my targets of those who might be vulnerable are: (not in order)

For a short-to mid term solution (which Jolly was)
  • Hamish McIntosh
  • Mark Seaby
  • Shaun Hampson
  • Will Minson
  • Dawson Simpson
  • David Hille (but likely to stay at Ess)
2nd ruck/fwd
  • Stefan Martin
They all have faults but the reality is that the good rucks don't go anywhere. And apart from Seaby and Martin they are all physical rucks which clearly Cam Wood will never be.
