I don't rate Shagga ahead of the others mentioned at this stage.

I'd pick him over the others in a forward role in the starting 22, but as sub? No way.

Good experience for him though.

If Lohmann is available McLachlan will miss out.
They may keep Reville as sub as he is reasonably versatile.
Fagan normally does not make many unforced changes so the above likely.

Other chances for sub going on recent weeks emergencies would be Marshall, Gardiner & McKenna.

Day’s job description is to make sure the opposition defense don’t take easy uncontested marks in our forward line. This week will really test him as this is one of Collingwood’s strengths. Very interesting

I can understand why posters may want to replace Day with someone else.
But i think he is doing his job of not being out marked very often and okay in the relief ruck role.
Lions would want more from him going forward. Appears happy to pass it off rather than take a shot himself.

Our Rucks Yesterday

Oscar had 8 disposals, zero marks, 78 ruck contests, 43 hit outs with 9 to advantage 81% TOG
Day had 7 disposals, 6 marks, 24 ruck contests 10 hit outs with 4 to advantage 67% TOG the lowest bar Reville and McLachlan.

I do agree in part but he moves as slow as treacle and I personally would prefer Fort, have I mentioned that before? But I also am coming around to the idea of Hippy sharing some ruck load, like Joe he seems to be a confidence player and getting his hands on the ball early might be the tonic he needs. Also he is a brilliant up field exit option for the backs.

I just don't see the value in getting games into Day when we could give someone like Gallop exposure to what AFL standards are like. If not this week then soon.

Gallop had 2 disposals in his last VFL games. Plenty for him to learn at that level

Gallop is a distant 4th option to me if we drop Day.

1) Henry Smith in a few weeks once he clears protocols and gets another game under his belt
2) Fort
3) Hippy rucks and we play small ball (Can’t do this one without Lohmann, need his aerial presence)
4) Ty.

Henry Smith would be the next in line for a call up imo. But he needs a little time to get back to full fitness after off season surgery.
Gallop is still pretty raw, and needs time to develop, we are not in a position where we have to throw young talls to the wolves so far this year.

This is Smith’s fifth season on the list. He’d certainly be expecting to play seniors. We need to know if he’s capable of the grade or not, and not just purely based on our need for a ruck forward.

Oscar and Fort are both over 30. If one or both were to get injured/retire unexpectedly (as we know can happen!), it would be nice to determine if Smith could fill the void. If he has an extended run and looks lost, that might also be a list need we need to plan for going forward.

Must admit I'm not a VFL watcher, just don't see the value in playing Day. Games gone past him.
I would give him one more week. See how Smith goes in the VFL.
As a side, he played better around the ground when rucking compared to Oscar.

I semi agree, and the pure stats would suggest that he isn’t doing a lot but imo opinion he is playing a very crucial role for the team and first and foremost I believe that role is to bring the ball to ground in the forward half of the ground, he is playing that role well.
I am not sure where you could find the stats, I am sure someone could find them, but I think if you could do a comparison to the first 5 games of last year we aren’t being out marked in the forward half of the ground as much as last year.

4 games, 4 wins is a good stat

OK so maybe Fort to ruck Big O to ruck/forward?

I'm not but I do think our forwardline line has functioned well when the mids have been switched on
This is the key 🔑
I honestly think that our game really revolves around the defensive pressure, when we are on defensively our offence clicks.
And particularly when our mids drop off defensively our game falls apart.

I’m alright with Day so far and I believe the club will be happy with him.

I’d like to see Smith come in because I think he can halve contests like Day can up forward but then provide more in the ruck.

It was mentioned somewhere that Day and Hippy switched forward roles at halftime. I’d like to keep that. It was the most balls I’ve seen kicked to Hippy this year and he can impact the scoreboard more than Day if it comes his way.
