What the heck? Pies sending letters to elderly members asking for their inheritance

Nah I got another one Friday asking if they could borrow my ride on so the club could save money on petrol as our soft cap is stretched to the max.

They also wanted to check if I was still alive just in case
I'm surprised that didn't ask you what lawyer firm your Will is lodged with, or perhaps they already have.

My dad got one of these letters in the mail. He hasn't been a member for 20 years and been dead for the past 10.
Bloody hell that's really going above and beyond asking you to dig deep in support of your club. With that effort I wouldn't be surprised if they are still counting him as a paid up member.

How much money does the club think we all get on Centrelink these days? Jesus
Isn't it an automatic deduction when you apply and comes as a bonus payment for Collingwood supporters. Or did you miss that box in the rush to fill out the form on the Interweb?

Well, we can agree to disagree then. But - simply put - that's my take on why this move by Collingwood has caused such offence. And why marketing departments generally shouldn't employ "spoonful of cement, princess" types to run their marketing departments and membership initiatives.

I think it's somewhere in the middle. I don't think it's necessarily to the cement level. But also the only reason (imo) you hold the view (the latter re marketing types) is because society is too sensitive. Not necessarily soft. Just sensitive.

As I said my first reaction was to think it was a bit off. But then it got me wondering why? Its not that big of a deal. Or am I just listening to too much Marcus Aurelius?

As far as I'm concerned, you're completely missing the point. This is like the Principal Skinner meme. The departments at Collingwood that would have been responsible and apparently thought this was a fabulous idea should have been able to predict (in your words) "Hey, maybe society's a little too sensitive for this kind of campaign to hit the mark." But they proceeded and got it hysterically wrong, one can only assume because they don't have their collective finger anywhere remotely near the pulse of what is considered reasonable and unreasonable in promoting such an opportunity.

But you seem to be saying (getting back to the Skinner meme) Collingwood's not out of touch; society's wrong for being too sensitive.

Well any publicity is good publicity isn't it? Or has that gone out of fashion?

Apparently Collingwood have a new mascot for 2026

Targeting specifically older members (60+ in age) with it, is a bit on the nose. If you'd sent it to ever member then you are just informing your entire membership base that it's an option.

And then deal with the squealing pink haired wombats who would feign outrage that the club is sending bequeath letters to 16 year old concession members. And then you'd have the outraged blue haired brigade critical of wasting resources sending this to all 106,000 members.

We also must never forget that this is a club found guilty of racism, so morals are not high on their agenda

Or...you know...maybe highly paid football players don't need more money or facilities if it has to come from the families of the deceased?

Who cares about the Hawks. My whole argument has been you saying Carlton did it. That was not a reply to you either.

Or is Mr Twitter your main source who is most likely a bong head Pies supporter on welfare living in Broady with Mum and Dad in a rental??

Pies fans going full whataboutism in this thread. Poor culture down in Pie land it seems.
