Well done to the Pompey, thought they edged it in the first half and will feel very disappointed not to have taken a lead into the half-time break. Which brings me to the point of this thread, namely Robert Pires. There are very few players I can recall who go to ground so easily and con referees so often as this guy. Did it in the first half when Steve Stone made ZERO contact with him, and did it again for the 'penalty'. Portsmouth entitled to feel very hard done by. Incidentally, that guy Yukubu (sp?) looks full of promise and unsettled Campbell several times.

I was shocked and very dissappointed that they gave that penalty. He dived. I really have not seen many bigger and worse dives.

Well done to Portsmouth who won 1-0.

Pires is a crook...

I remember against Boro at Highbury last season when he got Aussie Luke Wilkshire sent off for a similar dive - although add in some girlie screams and typical Gallic surrender-monkey theatrics.

Time for a video review on divers.

2 matches and 10000 pounds should put the wind up 'em, increasing for serial offenders.

Agree 100%. Hate trial by video but it is necessary in this case.

The problem, as 'Appy 'Arry confirmed after the game is that if it was Teddy Sheringham that dived for a penalty he wouldn't criticise him.

The clubs and the players have proven time and time again that they can't play in the spirit of the game, it is up to the authorities to do something about it.

Just saw the highlights, and I didn't really see any blatant dives, but there was a bit of criticism of him from the home fans.

What I did see is Ronaldo getting seven shades kicked out of him every time he tried another crossover, something he should get used to for the rest of his career in England I suspect.

As Moomba posted....no diving, just getting the sh*t kicked out of him whenever Charlton got the chance.

The Charlton fans had no reason to boo the kid.

Moomba, what are you referring to by the term 'crossover'? Do you mean stepover?

Hmmm....did you ever call CANTONA a "frog"?

Of course, you probably don't see that as an insult, just like how you once didn't see anything wrong with the term "Man Yoo".
Man Yoo was an honest mistake. Frog on the other hand i know is offensive to french, and i feel it fit to use in this case as the diver was french.

For someone who has been 'following' United for so long, 'Man Yoo' is not an honest mistake, just the height of ignorance and stupidity.

Don't bother trying to defend yourself, you're still a f*ckwit.

It's something i didn't know, and once told of my errors i realised and now don't use it.

Yep, that's exactly what I meant to say.

I realised what I had posted as I was walking out of the internet cafe, I thought I'd take the risk that no-one would notice.

Thanks for pointing it out  ;)

Well as someone who unreservedly had Pires as his favourite current player (until he got a bity arsy over his new contract negotiations) I have to say it shouldn't have been a penalty, I hesitate to even call it a dive, whatever it was it was quite unbelievable that the ref fell for it.

The only thing I can possibly say in Pires' defence is that a couple of season's ago, I can't remember who against, he was tripped in the box (replays showed quite clearly) & the ref ran over & booked him whilst the opposition players did their best to add fuel to the fire by pulling all the usual 'dirty cheating foreigner' faces & postures.

I wonder if he just thought to himself if I'm getting all the crap & bookings when I 've genuinely been fouled then **** em I'll show them what I can really do.

But yeah everyone's right he should have been booked, what are the chances that in the near future in some important game (maybe Man U next Sunday) he'll be fouled in the box & the ref won't give it, maybe somebody should show him the fable of the boy who cried wolf.

Eric Cantona

Fabian Barthez

Mickael Silvestre

Laurent Blanc

David Bellion

Er....um......William Prunier

All French, all Manchester United.

Nice to see that you have so much respect for their nationality.

Did you ever notice the French flags that would be waved by Manchester United fans at Old Trafford? I guess not - they wouldn't have mentioned that on Match Tracker.

When Eric was getting sent off for some meaty tackles on opposition players, but still winning silverware for us, were you calling him a "Frog"?

When RVN takes a dive, what do you call him? I'm sure you'll think of some appropriate form of abuse for his Dutch nationality.

Just out of interest, when Dean Rioli took out Adam Simpson behind the play, did you label him with some racially offensive terms? After all, if you can justify it for the French, you could justify it for the Aborigines too, huh? You just have to wonder though - how would you face up to Cantona/Barthez/Silvestre/Bellion and the Motlop boys/Wells/the Krakouers/Cable/Abraham/Pickett etc. if you ever got the chance to meet them?
