Teams Pittsburgh Steelers - The Steel Curtain

One of GG's fantasy boys that helped him win the empire championship a few years ago

Steelers WR Steven Sims is expected to take over slot duties in Pittsburgh following the trade of Chase Claypool.

Sims has run 11 routes all year with the Steelers using a highly-concentrated three-wide set of Diontae Johnson, George Pickens, and Claypool the first eight weeks. "He's been making plays when called upon, and I think based on what we've seen, it's reasonable to expect that to continue," Tomlin said of Sims. The 5'10/176 wideout caught 61 balls for Washington across the 2019-20 seasons.

Mike Tomlin’s eye-opening take on Najee Harris-Jaylen Warren workload share

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin isn’t afraid to make a move if his team needs it to win. There might be one coming on the horizon based on his recent comments about the Steelers’ current situation in the backfield.

Brooke Pryor from ESPN NFL Nation had two tweets from a media session that indicated Tomlin’s pleasure with Warren’s recent production.

“…when we were talking about a division of labor and who’s done what and who’s done well, I know that was a topic of discussion and very evident in our tape review.”

Pryor quote tweeted the original tweet with a follow up quote from Tomlin.

“He’s playing and so obviously he’s healthy enough to play. I’ll let him speak to that, but both guys have been available to us. We’ve gotten some awesome contributions from Jaylen and it’s reasonable to expect that to continue.”

Harris went to the Pro Bowl in 2021 but has struggled mightily this season. He is averaging 3.3 yards per carry and hasn’t topped 74 yards rushing in any game in 2022. Meanwhile, undrafted rookie out of Oklahoma State has impressed the Steelers this season. He is averaging 5.28 yards per carry and recently racked up 50 yards on the ground on six carries.

Mike Tomlin and the Steelers could use a boost on offense. They currently stand at 2-6 and first round draft pick Kenny Pickett has thrown two touchdowns to eight interceptions. The rookie started off the year behind Mitchell Trubisky, who signed a two-year deal with the Steeler, but hasn’t been able to ignite the offense.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin suggested Tuesday that Jaylen Warren might get a look in a feature-back role at some point in 2022, Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. "He's a quality back who has made some plays," Tomlin said of Warren. "We'll keep giving him an opportunity to do so, and maybe he'll write that script."

Meanwhile, top back Najee Harris, who suffered a foot injury during training camp, has managed to play in all eight of the Steelers' games thus far while averaging 3.3 yards on 108 carries. For his part, Warren has averaged 5.3 yards on his 29 rushing opportunities to date, and while Tomlin's comments don't necessarily foreshadow the undrafted rookie supplanting Harris as Pittsburgh's lead back following the team's bye week, it wouldn't be a surprise if Warren earned more touches in the coming weeks. Warren most recently turned in a six-carry, 50-yard effort to go along with three catches for 25 yards in the Steelers' 35-13 loss to the Eagles in Week 8.

Since the time Niel Armstrong departed Apollo 11, more men have walked on the moon than have coached the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Almost four times as many astronauts have stood on another world.

There have also been almost four times as many US presidents, and twice as many Popes.

The only office more secure is the British Monarch, and Tomlin is a lot younger than the King....

what are people's opinions on Kenny Pickett?
Big fan. I think he has what it takes to lead us for a very long time, and to the ultimate success with any luck.
As GG.exe stated, he started slow, but down the stretch he played much better. Gets a full summer now as the #1 in the house (was down the depth chart last pre season), gets Calvin Austin back from injury, more help on the OL, another year in the system from Pickens and so on and so on.
My only query is how much can he blossom in the style of offense that Matt Canada has been running?

Steelers select Georgia OT Broderick Jones after moving up to pick 14. I love the pick. Will help protect Kenny’s blindside (0 sacks allowed this past season) and will be Najee’s best friend in the run game also.
We also have the first pick on day two (32 overall) which could be a number of players Porter Jr, Branch, White, Benton etc. Will be interesting to see what we do (Could also trade out with teams who are looking for that QB in Levis/Hooker etc and gain more selections)

Steelers select CB Joey Porter Jr with the 32nd pick. Apparently plenty of teams called about the possibility about trading up. Either the Steelers really liked JPJ, or the haul wasn’t enough to warrant moving out of the selection.
JPJ fills a position of need for us with WRs in the AFC North such as Chase, Higgins, Boyd, OBJ, Cooper etc.
Going to the same team his old man played for too is a great story. Steelers have gotten two good starters out of the 17th & 32nd pick
