While finals football was the club’s goal at the start of the season and it was disappointing to fail to make the top eight, the flip side is early draft selections.

By winning less than six games, the club is entitled to a draft concession, just as Fremantle and St Kilda receive the same assistance. So West Coast will have the third selection (before the open draft begins) and the third choice in the draft proper.

That effectively means selection No.3 and No.6 from what has been the best player ballot in recent history. There are some outstanding prospects from both within WA and across the country and any young player taken at that stage of the lottery is likely to play senior football next season.

After those initial players, the club will then have selection No.22 and every 16th selection from that moment forward, depending upon how many players are drafted to the club and how those draft positions are affected by trades.

God, how I hope we improve next season...

This Draft is so crucial. My opinion is that Stars do not change Clubs. I dont believe we will get Farmer or Gaspar. They will use us to boost up their salary and stay where they are.

Hopefully our kids would have benefited from this year and will be ready for another step up next year. We need to pick up kids at 3, 6 and 22. If we happen to trade any of our current list only then we should look for mature players to fill gaps.

I think recruiting the mature age players in the last draft was the right thing to do. But if we do it again we will be buggard for a long time to come.

Get the best kids I reckon. Cousins, Gardiner, Kerr etc etc are young enough to wait for their development over 3 - 4 years and share in a Premiership.

GO EAGLES !

Definately go for headland. He was #1 pick a few years back, so its worth the punt. He's also a WA boy, so there's another incentive.

Another player i would like to see come to our club is Johnstone from the Dees, incredible talent and potential, ruined only by his lack of effort. But seeing that the eagles are a pro club with potentially woosha as coach, the scene could be set for him to have a ripper of a career. Apparently the other Dees players are sick of him and the demons are seriously considering trading him.
