Ask me an opinion about any Melbourne player and I'll give you as non-biased opinion as possible. For example I wanted Watts' sorry arse out of Melbourne for at least 5 years. No courage in the air and half-hearted efforts. A half dedicated footballer that didn't do the extras that the pros do.

Jeremy Howe was a good defender, but a hopeless forward. Howe rarely took contested marks in the forward-line, because it's far more difficult. It's not hard to leap over one or two players on a half-back flank when you're playing behind the ball. He's also not great in a contested situation. But allowed to freewheel he's very good.

Best not to pick him if you're not sure.
I like Petracca as a player though, and your prediction of 95 has me excited.
I am suprised anyone wanted Watts, he is the typical toffee nosed mummys school boy.

He should have been an Eagles player, but you snatched him just like you did to Cockatoo! :(
Not gonna lie, don't know why you didn't select him with an early pick. Crazy not to. Allen and Brander good picks, but I think Kelly will have a huge impact from the get go. Could see him doing a Stewart and finishing the year in the top 10 of the B & F. If he gets his body right, Cockatoo could win a Brownlow. He's that good. Joel Selwood has said that if he could be any player at the club, he'd be Cockatoo due to his strength, pace, goal sense, agility and just basically everything you want in a hybrid mid/forward. Could be absolutely anything.

Thoughts on Hogan. I have him currently and last year was the year from hell for him. Can see him pushing an 85 average and fully expect him to go big the first 3 rounds of the season

Why are people so eager to ditch Coffield? He'll play early, and you just waste trades shuffling around to get him in.
Very simple, Hunter Clark was named and he wasn't. All other draftees have been named thus far by their respective coaches, but Coffield wasn't. Whether he picked up a niggle during JLT or they don't quite think he's ready yet, it doesn't look like he'll play. I hope he does as it settles my line up, but you'll need to have a plan in place if he doesn't.

A very good choice imo.

Has a huge tank and will play 30% midfield where he has an ability to get involved. If he stays on the park I expect 85-90 average. He's 23 now and physically primed.

Some talls take a while to find form and hold marks, but he's already showing good signs.

He takes a lot of marks and the more midfield minutes will help, because his teammates look for him.

I made a choice and went with Petracca, but Hogan is a good pod.

My Melbourne smoky is James Harmes. Priced at 68 and just had his best preseason. He's also moved into the midfield for the first time. Once again I have Petracca sitting in his spot at F4, but I'm very tempted.

I believe you guys moved up in the draft specifically to pick Cockatoo as well, which when you go ahead of us, I knew we were in trouble. We could have really used a Cockatoo type player for the past few seasons, Oh well, we got Duggan hes not too bad and have got 14 games more out of him... yes im clutching at straws:D

So was Craig Turley robbed of a brownlow in 1991? :D

That wasn't my point. Even if he doesn't play round 1 he's worth having and not worth this panic. He showed enough. If he comes in rounds 5-6 and can be an early downgrade target then that's different but I'm sure he'll debut before round 4.

Assuming Harmes gets more mid minutes with Viney out now?

With two trades a week I think we can afford to try scramble to get him in if he gets named rounds 4/5. Don't see the point of carrying a non playing rookie during round 1 when cash generation is key

Only issue with that logic is though, is the 170K guy (or even 197K guy in Alex Pearce) on your bench could have made you the 60K you need to grab him, by the 4th or 5th round. If you start with him and he just sits on your bench for 5 rounds, you're losing out on cash generation at the prospect of a 'what if' in whatever round the Saints eventually choose to play him. I get your point, but I can't see why anyone would start with him if they wanted to generate funds early

Another in the long line of players who have shown form at their inaugural club only to spud it up at Melbourne. We also took Dean Irving off your hands.

The worst was 1979 Carlton premiership player Michael Young, who managed to eke out 15 stellar games at the Dees.

And then it was somehow Shane Woewodin who ended up breaking the drought (who ended up leaving to stink it up at another club haha (Brownlow wise) Works in swings and roundabouts

Stynes was a phenomenal player though, so two Brownlow medalists in 10 years is pretty impressive

Lucky he's still young or I'd be a lot more worried. Can't wait for him to actually string a season together so we can really see what you missed out on haha

He's more an outside runner, so probably no. But he's also tough in the contest.

The issue is js, because it's becoming tough to get into the 22.

I think he'll be named round 1 and is an interesting selection choice.
I'm very interested in Melbourne this year. I can see them being a top 4 side and I think they have some great depth. Can see some huge scores from their side and don't want to miss out. Do you think Maynard may plan Viney's role? Could be good smokey for a draft league
