It's important, in my view, to maintain at least a healthy cynicism of any comments coming from player managers.

Some are not at all shy to overstate things to further the interests of their clients, or indeed themselves.

Myers' manager is trying to get Myers some of the money that is clearly available. He's not going anywhere. He is leveraging it all against Myers being uncontracted next year.

Myers is definitely a player that has been 'looking' around.. but he is contracted.. so we will be sure to get his full worth IF a deal is done.. again if the right deal comes along.. i think the club would take it.

As to the notion that we can't attract players because of ASADA.. oh pleeeeease.. we weren't going to be active this trade period anyway.. looks like we will be getting Chapman and there isn't really a lot out there that you would want..

Not many clubs let good players leave.. we are still in the fight for NDS.. although likely to lose to North or looking more likely he will stay with Saints..

Barrett is a true flog that wouldn't know a football from his ass..

Before we wait for next year and after this trade period, why doesn't Essendon offer him a contract extension with a bit more coin on a 2-3 year deal but if he is refusing/reluctant to sign it now we should put him on the trade table before he becomes a RFA and we wont be able to match Melbournes or saints deal because they have frontloaded their cap and also have no decent players to pay.

instead of getting a shit compo pick or they might scrap it all together we should beat him to it and get the best deal from any club.

I can't believe we have to have three weeks of this crap.. why??????

2 trades in 10 days.. whoa.. hold the phone... I'm glad we have an all day radio, live running blog and constant twitter feed.. and the trade tracker.. how else could I keep track of all the wheeling and dealing..

Move to the MLB system.. one weekend, all in one hotel.. get it done..

Or just not pay that much attention to it, jump at every rumour and expect 30 deals to be done.

The very fact there is a 'Trade Radio' is a sad reflection on how ridiculously over inflated the whole AFL media industry is.

I didn't really see the problem with the trade period being only a week, but if they insisted on making it longer, surely one and a half to two weeks is enough. Three is complete overkill.

If anything the period is too short, if it was months long everyone wouldn't be getting so antsy about trades not happening every hour.

It should be permanently active with the ability for clubs to trade their future picks. Two key forwards go down leading into the finals, trade one in from a club with overs and send them your future R2 pick.

On the downside though, you'd be giving even more scope to the 'October/November' specialists- those who presently only ever seem to have something to say around this time of year.

I dunno about permanently, I'd cut it off mid season or something but add in the option to be able to sign players from state leagues in the scenario you said (altho I guess that's sort of the purpose of the rookie list)

I guess, but dolts are gonna be dolts - no restriction or non-restriction on the time of the trade period is going to change that.

Free agency should have started the day after the GF and finished last Friday.
