Yeah don't see the point in it. We can get ruckmen that are every chance to turn out as good much later in the draft.

Would be different if we didn't have not 1 but TWO A grade rucks on our list! Seems stupid to get another one at 26 who would leave for more opportunities anyway!

Would be happy with any of these

Dumont
Dunstan
Z.Jones
Templeton
Garlett
Sicilly
Lobb
Hewitt (reslly warming to him late)
Lang
Cripps
JKH
Tsatis (sounds like he could go undrafted)

We don't really need another young mid that will take a while to develop, would rather we get a mature big-bodied mid from either the VFL, WAFL or SANFL in the rookie draft. The club seems to have all but said we'll be getting a ruck/KPF and 3rd tall who can rotate through the middle if required.
My guess would be we're looking hard at Marsh, Reynolds, Lobb, Hartung, Apeness, Nankervis, Brown.

Garlett won't happen at 26 btw, apparently Hawthorn are set to take him at pick 24 and Bomber has already said we won't take him with our first selection.

Oh we do need a couple more rucks on this list, it's just that unless an out and out gun is available we're better off getting one later in the draft.

Rucks are problematic list management-wise because there are only one or two positions available each week but clubs still need cover in case one (or both) of the preferred options get injured. The best solution I can think of is to have about 5 rucks on the list, each at different stage of development with 4 of them AFL ready at any given time and just accept that you'll lose one every few years through lack of opportunity.

Getting a 22yo and an 18yo ruck this year would be perfect list management-wise because we'd have depth straight away from the 22yo and 4 years or so to develop the 18yo by which time Ryder and TBC will be pushing 30 and well into the twilight of their careers.

As long as it isn't Lobb or Apeness at 26 I'll be happy. If we got them at 55 I would have less of an issue. At that point you are gambling anyway. Marsh at 26 please!

Yup! I honestly can't put into words how much a player of Marsh's ilk will help us, and its not just because of his speed and x-factor but there's something unpredictable about him as far as how he handles an opponent.

Dead agreed, Marsh would be dead perfect and a good election, just fills an out and out need, and Bomber Thompson knows how to work with these instinctive players like Stevie J.

This is usually my view but swan districts believe lobb has the biggest upside of anyone in the draft. Happy to back the club's judgement.

All well and good BUT you are spending a high pick on a 3rd string ruck- not good practice one bit. As I said at 55, best available and would be happy to spend it there!

People Marsh is nothing like Stevie J and I mean at all.

He doesn't have the footskills or ball winning ability of Stevie and isn't that type of "x-factor".

He is in the Crameri mould but is quicker and more agile and uses his pace to beat opponents. Also he is an inaccurate set shot.

He is what we need but isn't a thing like Stevie J.

been saying this for years..

Our want to play a ruck as a KPP has caused us grief in the past. Need to stick to KPP's as KPP's and rucks as rucks. IF they can play as a third tall up front (or in defence) then awesome if not, I'd pass.

If a ruckmen is that good, and worth a second round pick, you pick them no matter who was on your list already.

If, sure...but no I wouldn't be picking one at 26. Not when there are a stack of mids available and not when we are in a situation where we are gunning for a flag. Forget what will happen in 5 years. We need someone in a Luke Parker-type who can impact from Round 1 playing across the half forward (evenually in the middle)

chris cain anyone?

wouldn't take him in the ND, and if we're talking last pick in the rookie draft kind of stuff I know i'd prefer a kind of guy with stupid amounts of pace, x-factor and skill, but can only run out a half before blowing up, as opposed to a solid, vanilla bloke who's gone undrafted 8 times.

There are only a handful of players with Stevie J type x factor in the country (Jobe is one). Marsh is more Franklin type 'how did a bloke that big just take on and burn 4 blokes' type X - Factor, which even Jesse White has to be truthful.

Exactly the reason I want Marsh! The guy is a jet, will be hilarious to see the looks of disappointment on the faces of defenders when he gets the ball and belts towards goal leaving them in his dust.

In the rookie draft I wouldn't mind Josh Scipione from Port Melbourne. He is a handy goal sneak that plays minutes in the midfield. He should be able to get us at least 2 goals a game. The only problem is list spots, I'd consider passing on Duscher to get him, and I REALLY have wanted Duscher for a number of years. Thoughts?

I would definately say that Marsh is a hell of a lot 'rawer', to make up a word, than what Franklin was when he was drafted.

That probably goes unsaid however.

Yup, it may seem like sacrilege by comparing him to Franklin, but he really is just a rawer version of Franklin (albeit that Marsh is faster and probably has a a bit more x-factor than Buddy).

Your good at missing points

I have no issues with us taking a ruck at pick 26. As rucks take time to develop and need to be on a list for a few years before a call can be made on them, I would rather that we are spending the time on someone with potential.

Further to this, we have mids coming through that are highish picks - Merrett, Kavanah, Colyer, Hams + the ones we have already picked up this year. Our ruck/forward development is rather bare.

Now, before some (one) of you get all uptight with the 'we must ONLY get midfielders rant' I'm saying if a ruck is the best available we go for it. We shouldn't rule it out, just because of the position they play. Personally, I'm still hoping (read dreaming) that Crouch may slip down to us.

This hits the nail on the head. We do not want to wind up like Carlton i.e. "Ooo lets solely draft midfielders, surely a basketcase forwardline doesn't matter?"
