To start with, i can only go on the opinions of those on the many boards on the net, my own visual experience of those who have played senior footy, the raps given on the CFC website as i live in Canberra and cant goto the open trainings, or the Willi games in melbourne.
So here it goes
#1 Davis: He has the pace to become a intricate part of a fast running midfield rotation, if he can show how to find the footy. He got a career high 21 possessions against fremantle. He has shown that he can play a midfield role and as later seen he will definatly be in the mix for the top 24 in my look at our best line up.
#2 Woewodin: He was a last 1/4 specialist in 2004 and always seemed to step up when he was needed most. Attributing to his success in 2004 he collected over 20 possessions on 10 or 22 occasions, only 3 times did he have less than 15. In 205 i would like to see him move back to the role he played during his better years at the Dees, across half back, thus allowing BJ and Lonie to move up the ground.
#3 Lonie: Would definatly like to see him moved up the ground. Onto the wing where his flair and long left foot kicking can be an awesome weapon. He needed to stand up in 04 but went missing a little until the last game of the season where he picked up 23 possessions. With the addition of Chad Morrison, and if Woey gets moved back to HBF, Lonie could really shine on the wing.
#4 Didak: Has publically said he wants a more on-ball role in 05, while i would still like him to be forward of the ball, his silky skills and pace could be the key in the middle. While i dont think he will be playing onball for extended periods of time, I think we should use him as a switch man on the outer side wing against teams who like to flood especially, or just to transevers the play and open it up.
#5 Buckley: The champion of the good old Black and White. Unfortuatly his time in the famous colors is coming to an end, and if we want to get him a flag we will have to presereve him. I keep seeing the team lists that other supporters post on the boards that he should be our centre man. Did any1 watch us play this year. Even though he was hampered for most of the year, Buckleys days in the centre are numbered. Yes he will still go into the middle when some1 needs a breather, but he will not be the focal point of our midfield. IMO he should be lining up on the HFF.
#6 Holland: Became our best tagger in 04, but silly undisciplined acts saw him outed for 4 weeks. If he can overcome these brain farts he will become one of the most important cogs in the collingwood mechine in 05. I expect him to be once again tagging the number 1 opposition midfielder, with an unexpected surprise in one R.Shaw taking the number to in some situations.
#8 Clement: The reining Copland winner and rock in defence of 04. Will definatly be there again 05 but hopefully with Presti and Wakes back in action so he can take the 3rd most dangerous forward.
#10 W. Morrison: Hasnt played senior footy and from all accounts i dont think he even broke into the Seagulls in 04. Hopefully he can break into the seagulls next year and even push for a Senior spot. It will be hard unless we have another bad run with injuries in 05.
#11 Obree: Personally i cant believe he has been retained. But maybe MM has seen somthing at Pre-season training that we are all blind to. From reports he has been given leadership responcibilities for 05 and maybe this is the kick in the pants he needs. If we dont struggle with injuries i cant see him breaking into out best 24 let alone the 22
#13 Cole: Showed a fair bit when given the chance to run in 04. He will IMO be given another year in the backline to take part in what i expect to be the top line running defence in the league. Not many can boast the speed and tallant that will be exhibited from the Black and white backline.
#16 Davidson: Unlucky to be struck down 2 years in a row with ACL injuries. In just 16 or so minutes of play he show what we had all expected and exhibited one of the best opening quarters by a debutant i can remember. Taking 3 marks and having 4 kicks in just under a quarter of footy is no mean feat, especially on a forward flank.
#17 Burns: The other veteran on our list, after 10 years of service he definatly deserves a premiership medalion. With his age being th key factor id imagine he will be used prodominatly in the forward pocket and taking stints on the ball.
#18 Licuria: Although he turns 27 early next yr, he will still have possibly up to 7 or 8 more years left in him. He is the fitness mechine at Lexus and has shown that in the last 6 years. He will be in the middle again in 04, taking the helm in the centreman possisition.
#19 Williams: How he wasnt delisted is beyond me. I will admit during his first year back in melbourne i thought he was the answer to the loss of Nick Davis, but he has done nuthing since. How he managed to make games at the end of 04 is beyond me, and i cant see him participating in anything the seniors do next yr at all.
#20 Tarrant: He had to become the focal point in attack in 04 and couldnt play the long leading game that saw him become AA for the first time, lead the competition in Marks and take Mark of the year. In a fit and firing team expect to see Taz back to the way he was in 03. Id like to see him at CHF but i think if he takes that spot there isnt anywhere for Pebbles, so i feel his spot in the team is on the Flank opposite bucks.
#21 Richards: He came out with a bang in 04 until he was struck down with OP. If he is fit and firing in 05 expect him to take the number 1 ruck spot allowing fraser to goto full forward. His tap work will improve in 05 and with the youthful mid field set up we should go with IMO i cant see us losing the centre clearence battles come game day.
#22 R. Shaw: While some were calling for his blood at the end of the year, and many others thought it would happen. I for 1 am glad it didnt. His pace will be pivitol next year. Just think about it. The bounce goes up with lightning pace Shaw runs through the centre with precision timing to collect the ball at pace, run straight through the middle and deliver a scourching pass rite onto scotty burns chest. CAN U FEEL IT?
#23 Rocca: Possibly the most important player for the black and white. He straightens us up, draws the focus away from the likes of Taz, fraser and bucks, and if u dont man him up he will tear u a new one. I expect him to take his place back at CHF with bucks on his right and taz on his left.
#24 Lockyer: While i would like to see him play on the ball, i think his silky skills would be better used in the forward line, just not sure if there is enough room. An excellant finisher he could be used as a pinch hitter into the forward line when either bucks, burns or Carrot Seller (if we get him) move up the ground.
#26 Johnson: Moved along in leaps and bounds in 04. His progress astounded me and will only improve with confidence. I expect him to cement a place in our midfield come 05 and his pace and deep long kicking will be awesome to see.
#27 Morrison: (lets just assume that he will have 27 next yr) Cant wait to see him in the B+W. Running off the half back line, allowing BJ to move into the middle. I can see him becoming a massive cog in the works of our running backline, while taking stints in the middle if need be.
Ok, this is where i got sick of typing, can some 1 continue.
Here is my best 24 for 05
B Cole, Presti, Clement
HB Morrison, Wakelin, Woewodin
C Lonie, Licuria, Didak
HF Tarrant, Rocca, Buckley
F Burns, Fraser, Caracella/Lockyer if we dont get Caracella
Followers: Richards, Holland, BJ
6 man Interchange: Davidson, R.Shaw, C.Cloke, Lockyer/Rowe (Caracella clause), Davis, Walker.
Cheers SP
