What players do you compare this years draft picks to (who they play like not who there as good as)....
From WA
Jarryd Oakley Nicholls- Robert Murphy (great agility silky skills and plays taller)
Brennan Mills-Luke Ball (tough and classy)
Matt Riggio-Adam Mcphee (Half Back/Midfielder Runs with the ball and can take a grab)
Matt Seal-Ben Cousins (runs all day and can kick goals)

I think those are a bit optimistic, aside from the Oakley-Nicholls one.

None of those other three players will be anywhere near as good as the comparisons. It would be better to find a lower scale player who plays a similar way.

I dont get Murphy out of Oakley Nicholls, I actually find this very hard to do as I find very few players have a good match. Having said that trying to find a quick outside half back flanker who goes missing for long periods of the game and then explodes for ten minutes where they clearly dominate the game, maybe gilbee more than murphy.

Matt Seal well a forward who marks tall but can still plays midfield but more as a receiver than an in and under although he will go in and under. Brad Johnson type but I am not saying he is in that class level.

I'm not too good with these sort of comparisons, but I'll give it a go

Ryder - Goodes
Clarke - McDougall
Trent West - Paul Johnson
Bower - Leppitsch
Ellis - Fiora
Hurn - Dew
Jones - Kerr
Birchall - Embley
McKinley - Robertson
Varcoe - McLoed

bear in mind I dont think they are as necessarily as good as their comparisons but they have at least one similar aspect to their game.

seals not a great mark

You are correct when you say he is not a great mark I would say he is solid. What I was getting at is he is good overhead just because he tends to have a greater reach than one expects. He also has a knack for getting into a position where the ball can be kicked to him where he can take what I would call a half contested mark (you know the ones where the opponent doesn't quite get to him early enough but a lot of players still spill them because of the perceived pressure.)

yeah he does lead to the right spots....kicks alot of goals just due to his willingness to run, solid mark on the lead but rarely marks in a one on one or pack situation.

persoanlly, i think it is pretty stupid to compare 18 years olds with mature age afl players. if we are talkin about these afl players at 18 eyars of age, then fair enough, but the pressures of afl are vastly different to u/18 nationals. therefore, it is inconcieveable to make an appropriate comparison, unless it is with both players being at that particular age, eg (not my opinion, just an example):
Judd at 18 eyars old and jarred oakley-nichols at 18 years old.

Agreed, try pretty hard not to do it myself.

I hate the ones who say "he'll be the next Chris Judd"...

It's got nothing to do with being as good as the players they're being compared to, it's about their height, weight, pace, position and style.

I haven't seen most of these guys play so I appreciate the info.

Aaron Fiora is the same height as Justin Leppitch, they play a bit differently but.

How you would do would be to compare their styles.
For example if you said:
Oakley-nichols - great leg speed, stands up well in tackles, gets his own hard ball but is also a very good linkman - similar in style to Judd.
Ability has nothing to do with it, its about style.
then those of us that don't know ON would have some idea of his style and attributes.
PS. the ON example was just that, i've no idea what his style is.
