You guys have got to be kidding! I would never risk drummond - he has had numerous injuries in every season of his career. He has played four seasons, in which he played 14, 7, 11 and 13 games.

Yes, he did have that incredible purple patch in 2007, but even then it didnt last due to injury. Definately not worth starting, but thats just me.

He surely has to get things right eventually.

I traded him in twice last year (stupid, I know), but there's always that tiny chance that he'll get it all together and prove to be a fantastic pick.

It's unfortunate the risk is so immense, because he does have the potential to be one of the top three or four backs.

Thats not really logic though - surely get things right eventually, so ill just take a stab that it will be this year.

Im not saying he couldnt, just for me, risks outweigh rewards. Injuries cost trades, and the start, im trying to be as durable as possible (in a way that allows for value).

Yeah there's nothing that really points to him playing out a full season, but there's always the possibility.

Same here. I'm not considering him either, but I can see why some people may choose to take a gamble.

I'm with you Lakey, if the risk outweighs the reward i don't see a plausible enough reason to choose someone on the basis that they'll buck the trend and play out an injury free season, when in reality the odds are greatly stacked against them.

It's safer, both in terms of trades and team setup, to select a team from the beginning that isn't filled with too many players that you're going to be sweating over whether they will break down with another injury.

Your right lifelike, there still IS the possibility that drummond will play 20+ games - however theres a possibility presti averaging 100 :p lol jokes

The thing is, say you get 14 keepers in your team, this leaves you with 8 upgrades required. This would take probably 14-17 trades, leaving just 3-6 trades for injuries, and mistakes. In the worst case scenario with just 3 trades left, wouldnt you much rather have say mundy in your team than drummond for that extra confidence in your players durability and security? I know I would, and hence why i think anyone picking an extremely injury prone player like drummond or chapman is letting risk outweigh reward.

Ottens & Rioli or McIntosh & D.Thomas.

I know most people are staying away from mid range forwards but I want someone that will hold steady or improve a touch around the 300k mark to eventually upgrade to Riewoldt.

Personally I think Ottens is the 2nd best ruck in the comp (in reality, not DT) and will improve on last year with potential to score a 90 average. McIntosh will improve on last year as well but I am wary as he was supposedly, and I say supposedly because Ottens shreds him most times we play them, in AA form 2 years back and only averaged 77 so I struggle to see him averaging over 75. Plus Laidley and Craig are the dream team grinches so I'm trying to avoid picking a player from either side.

As far as Rioli/Thomas goes, I think Thomas will definitely hold steady spending more time in the midfield but he will still be flaky and Rioli is more of a risk because he is sure to get more attention this year.

Alternatively I could get Ottens & Thomas and downgrade one a unique back to Houlihan but I don't have the love for him that many on here do, Carlton were shit when he was averaging 80 and had no competition for his spot in the side.

Yarran V Zeibell V an 86k rookie

to start in the fwd line

??

Yarran plays for the Blues who are desperate for forwards, especially of the crumbling/small type. Similar to how the Hawks were last year. Questions on his work ethic.

Ziebell from all reports is training the house down, and his body should be good enough to hold up. He plays for rookie killer Laidley.

86k rookie.. plenty should get game time. Which one though?

If Ziebell went to ANY other team he would almost be my first selection. The guy is a star, just ask Cruiser...

I must resist the temptation to select a Kangaroos rookie.

I currently have Yarran in my side but I get the feeling he could be a big flop. As a player, Zeibell would be my preference (I was very keen on Essendon selecting him), but he has absolutely no fitness base (not unlike Yarran I suppose).

It's a tough one. I suppose if Zeibell is selected for round 1 he will make the cut.

I've said it before and I will say it again...Yarran will never be a good dreamteam player unless he kicks like 8 goals a game. He doesn't touch the ball often but when he does its genius.

I've said this before and I will say it again (Well I have not, but meh)

Yarran only has to average around 50+ in DT to be a great cash cow, so who cares what he will be like at DT next year, it is all about a rookie playing 8+ games and preferably rounds 1-8.

Why would you spend that much on him when you could buy someone like Taylor Walker or Mitch Brown who are going to do the exact same thing?

Maybe you want more than say one or two rookies? Maybe you want someone that when fit is a certain player in the teams best 22?

I am not saying people should select Yarran, but if he plays, he will be a good cash cow.

That's what i keep telling myself too but it keeps going in one ear and out the other with regards to Ziebell.

Can someone answer this?

D.Headland averaged 59.3 last year and is priced at $263,300.
R.Houlihan averaged 69.0 last year but is priced at $244,900.

Is this a mistake by Virtual Spectator?

Houlihan got a discount due to misssing a lot of the season.. hence his magic number has been decreased.. whereas despite Headland missing many games he did no receive a discount so his magic number remains the same as the large majority of players.

Houlihan received a 20% decrease, for playing 5 games. Headland did not get the discount, maybe because he played 6 games. It seems that VS made the cut-off point for a discount at 6 games this season.

Wish it was that easy mate. North Melbourne play on the Sunday meaning their squads wont be finalised until after lockout, so unless Ziebell is in the starting 18 (Im almost certain he'll be on the extended bench), theres still a chance he wont make Round 1. Bad news if your starting him....like me :p
