I think I remember a report saying Monfries having 45 possies in an U/16 carnival match for SA. He's never really replicated that at senior level. Grimes could be similar.
It's interseting you bring up Monfries as he is one player that is on my short list. With Knights saying that he will give every chance to play all for big men ( Neagle, Lloyd, Lucas, Gumbleton ) and adding that he would throw in Mcphee and the resting ruck, im not sure how Monfries will be effected. It could be a positive move, mean Monfries plays up the ground maybe on the wings with a bit of a run ont he ball, or in turn it coud be bad news, meaning he is pushed out of the 22 as their is no spot for him. IMO Knights is probley wanting him to become the winger/on baller rather than staying mostly around the 50m mark.
Fairly durable player missing 6 games in 3 years and i know alot of people were disapointed by him in 08' with last years pre season hype but he is one to keep in mind being around that price range alot with Thomas, Cloke ect, if your looking for a mid priced foward.

IMO, Monfries didn't show enough in 2008 from a DT point of view. With all the injuries the Bombers had it was a perfect opportunity for him to make his mark in the midfield. Also, the fact that in round 1 with a full strength team he was not selected probably shows Knights is not a big fan.
Aye, while I believe he was drafted as a future mid-fielder- he seems to have found his niche as one of those annoying forward-line-taggers...
Harvey, though, said he would use the pre-season matches to fine tune his squad's fitness going into Round 1 and added that new draftees Stephen Hill and Nick Suban could have the conditioning to play against Richmond, in the club's first NAB Cup hit-out at Subiaco on February 15.
"Without putting too much pressure on a younger player Suban (pick 24 in the National Draft) and Hill (pick three), have a really good footballing instinct," Harvey said.
"Not to say the other guys (draftees) don't, but they're the guys that have stood out a little over the last few weeks."

Sounds great for Suban who could be the only back rookie playing in round 1. Interesting that Ballantyne didn't get a mention.
Nice find Chad. I wouldn't worry about Ballantyne. He will be treated completely differently to the other draftees. The other reason why he didn't get a mention would be he had a pin taken from his wrist so wouldn't have done much training.
Personally just not sure why they wouldn't give Strauss a guernsey in Round 1. I think he is a better player than Grimes and from what I've seen is fair superior kicking wise than either Jack or Ricky. Yes he has a few years less development but Strauss seems to play above his age. He is very sure of himself on the field, arrogant if you like and seems to have a good head on his shoulders. He is physically mature enough to play also and has no troubles endurance wise. I'd play him and I can fit him into the Dees line-up but maybe my bias kicks in a little. We'll just have to wait an see but he is pretty much a lock from me at this stage.
I agree with this report. Melbourne targeted players who can kick in this draft as this was visibly lacking in 2008. No reason not to give him plenty of games in 09, he is an early back defender for mine. He is also more physically developed than Blease, but Bail may be the trump card of the lot.
I've actually never seen Bail play, can you give us a little report on him? I know he is more mature, 20 i think and from Mount Gravatt but that is about it.
I haven't seen much either, just from what I read after we drafted him he seemed the most likely to play from our crop. Mature aged, did well in the AFLQ medal, I can't remember what it is called. Wingman with elite endurance, I'm not sure on his disposal but I don't think he is as good a kick as the rest of our picks(that is just a feeling that I read it somewhere, nothing concrete.) Earned his spot on the list so is the type you want to succeed, definitely worth a look in the NAB cup and may add to the depth in the fwd/mid rookies.
Anyone else have thoughts?
Great work Lakey, i'd like to see what % of that TOG from Mundy was played in the midfield last year cause i don't think he's too likely to increase on 84%.Also, heres there 2008 TOG stats:
Hargrave 96%
Mcphee 92%
Mundy 84%
Just to bring mundy right back into the picture in the comparison.
can you tell me where I can get TOG stats? Also, heres there 2008 TOG stats:

I was planning to have Mundy, but don't think I will anymore.
, its due to his engine, hes just not fit enough.
