Okay so I have been playing around with my team structure - with Cox, and without. Which of these two would you prefer:

Cox, S Thompson, Coughlan, Rance (bench), Dangerfield (bench)

vs

Ottens, Ablett, Haselby, S Hill (bench), Robinson (bench)

Ive trying pretty hard to get Stephen Hill in the team, but cmoing up with an extra 60k is hard. Dropping Cox gives me that cash, plus allows me to get Ablett - a true 1st tier player. Plus I can swap Cougs out Haselby, who is less of a worry (especially considering the last report).

Thoughts?

Priddis also has the ability to pull some massive scores - if you pick them and he's your captain, your in for some big scores.

Here's one I've been pondering and can't decide on..

McGlynn v Staker as a forward.

McGlynn - Can obviously score well, and prior to last year played 21(?) games and has maintained his decent average over three years. With Crawford out and a number of Hawks players coming on slowly in the pre-season could seize his opportunity at the start of the year and grab some extra TOG/points.

Staker - Every year there is talks he wants to move into the midfield and on the weekend against Collingwood he did. TBH I only watched the first half and he seemed to be about the play but didn't look totally impressive. The Eagles team is definately light on and I think if he made the permanant move he could definately improve his average.

What does everyone think? Especially interested in WCE/Hawks supporters.

I must admit I only watched the first half aswell before not wanting to watch much more. I wouldnt count on Staker playing in the midfield. I think he will get some time in the midfield but it might be less than your hoping, I think hes role will change abit through the year possibly playing forward and back at times. Good smokey though if he does play midfield he should score better but Ive never been a massive Staker fan. Goodluck!

Ben Mcglynn Vs Travis Tuck

Ben Mcglynn Vs Travis Tuck.

Hey just wanted to know what people think would be better choice of players that are touted to fill in for Shane Crawfords possie this year.. So far Ben Mcglynn is the most talked about/ obvious choice.. But Ive heard that Travis Tuck will be a contender also for regular minutes this year.. Both I think represent potential great value in DT, and will only improve if given regular minutes.. They are a little expensive.. but going on Mcglynns year in 2006..and couple of games he played last year.. on a career average of 77 for 270,000 sounds pretty good..

One advantage of mcglynn is that hes listed also a FWD, so he could be handy positioned there... McGlynn is priced at 274,000 and tuck at 276,000. But on face value his mcglynn.. 2006 year was very good.. but hampered by injuries last year.. I'm a bit worried about selecting either one as they end up having more a time share arrangement which would nullify any value from these players.. Anyone got any inside knowledge..? Im not sure.. i can afford him.. but could downgrade to a vezipremi..

Hille v McIntosh + cash.
Ablett v Swan + cash.

I've finally found a side I am very happy with, and really there are only two changes that I am considering - listed above. With both Ablett and Hille in the team, I come out with around $3k left. Obviously I'd only trade one of the two above and leaning towards McIntosh but in the end he worries me more than Swans performance. Cox is my other ruckman.

Problem with HMac previously was his fitness, which supposedly has improved over the pre-season but also the emergence of Hale/Petrie/Goldstein could still dramatically cut up his numbers....

I woulnt get Hille. Has had an interrupted pre-season, and is probably at his peak already. I would for either Simmonds (get what you pay for, reliable) or Ottens/HMac (cheap, injury risk). Id take Ablett ahead of Swan aswell, though I cant really give you any reasons why... :P

Heres on of my own:

Wheatley + L Hansen VS Lockyer + Myers

Myers is a safer bet than Hansen, but Wheatley will probably be a much better scorer than Lockyer.

Personally i'd stay away from Wheatley, he is known for picking up soft tissue injuries. Was looking at him during the year last year and his record is not great when it comes to durability. He may score well but you want someone who plays 22 games and i honestly can't see Wheatley being able to play a whole season. Lockyer and Myers for me by a fair margain, though i do like Hansen.

Wheatley 90 (if hes lucky) + L Hansen 65 VS Lockyer 88 + Myers 75 (breakout contender)
i'd go lock and myers without a doubt.

Now,

Raines vs Grimes vs Jesse W Smith vs A Rookie (if so which one)

Yeah fair enough. I like Wheatley though, purely because whenever the melbourne backline is in trouble, they kick it to him. And they get in trouble a lot. :p He racks up monster amounts of marks/kicks (ala Bowden/Newman) from the kick to kick. He does have dodgy hammies though...

@ chrisknights - I dont know enough about Grimes to comment, but with Raines - I would steer clear of him. You want players who are in a teams best 22, but Raines is iffy on that point.

Okay so doing some more tinkering, come up with another tight one:

Adcock + Hansen vs Malceski + Myers

I would say the Malceski side would be the higher scoring, but how much of a worry is his knees? And has anyone heard anything about Adcock going back to his '07 role? There seems to be a bit of undeserved hype surrounding him right now.

Skipworth v fwd rookie

I'm already starting two other rookies in the forwardline, so is it worth the extra cash, and the potential cash I'd make from a rookie to get the safety of a 26 year old entrenched in the 22?

How so? Stokes and Morton are the only ones in danger of getting a game, and even then it wont be that reguarly.

Marty Clarke vs Mundy vs Drummond vs Malceski.

wondering if clarke is worth the extra money kesh, or should i stay with malceski for the value.
the backs that come before include s fish, cornes, adcock, so dunno but probs a bit weak in the backs

1. Clarke
2. Drummond
3. Mundy
4. Malceski

In my opinion of course.

I didn't mean forgetting Morton, Stokes, Muston and Kennedy in DT....I mean vying for a spot in Hawthorn's 22.

Not sure if this ones been done??
J mcviegh v Van Berlo
Both similar in price, young mids on the verge.
who would u choose!!!

Van Berlo in a second. Actually averaged 89 if you disregard the two against sydney (knocked out as we all know) and averaged 98 from round 8 until the end of the season.

Also smashing the TTs.

Then again, i do still hate Mcveigh for his dreadful kicking in 2007...

Not sure if this has been done but Gibbs vs Pendlebury vs Van Berlo?
All young and average pretty well but whos in for the best 2009?
Cheers
