It's hard to look past Brent Harvey - has been doing what he's doing for years. Although, if Brown shows throughout the preseason that he's back to his pre-injury best, you've got to consider him.

Stevie Johnson is a risky one - Geelong plays an extremely high possession football, but what happens if they go from being dominant this season to being just an above average side? It's why I'm wary of Cats players - there's a lot of uncertainty there.

That said, I've got Johnson in my team. Go figure (needed the 6k elsewhere). :)

They have lost 3 games in 2 years, I think its safe to say that they will still be fairly dominant this year...

You'd expect them to. That said, a fall from grace isn't necessarily gradual and the opposition will wracking their brains to counteract their tactics.

A risk worth taking, but if it came down to a 50/50, I'd opt against the Cat and go for someone I know will score well regardless of his side's performance.

IMO
Gibbs. He'll average 90-95, where as Judd will average 85-90.
Kruez, as he will play CHF in patches and get more of the ball. Not sure what kind of scores they'll both end up averaging, but Kruez would be ahead by abit.

I've got a big one for the forward line that's doing my head in.
B. Harvey vs D. Giansiracusa vs S. Johnson vs N. Brown

All of them similar in price, will likely score well, but who will go best?

Consistency:
1. B Harvey
2. Gia
3. N Brown
4. S Johnson

Safest:
1. Gia
2. S Johnson
3. B Harvey
4. N Brown

Highest average:
1. Nathan Brown
2. B Harvey/Gia
3. S Johnson

Thats my thoughts anyway... overall i rekon B harvey is the way to go

Total injustice last season. They will win the premiership this season, bookmark it.

That said, I've only got two Geelong players.

Just a quick thought on these combinations. Will give feedback on other posts tonight when I get home.

Ablett, Haselby, Petterd, Harvey, Yarran

Vs

Ablett, Gibbs, N Brown, Yarran, Gumbleton/any 86k mid

Vs

Ablett, Gibbs, B Harvey, Ziebell, Gumbleton/any 86k mid

Vs

Bartel, Gibbs, S Johnson (or Gia), Ziebell, Gumbleton/any 86k mid

Thoughts? This is just one of the many combinations I can decide upon.

I think it is a little too early to be comparing the rookies combinations when we havent even seen them play (ie. Yarren, Ziebell). FWIW I think your second option is the best though this could all change after a few more rounds of the NAB cup.

I like the 3rd the most but don't like the ziebell option

x2
i don't think Ziebell will get enough early games. DTers on this board don't seem to realize that with North basically having no injuries at the moment there is a heap of competition for midfield spots and Ziebell is probably fighting with 4 or 5 guys for one spot (plus he is only 17)

I'm tossing up Brennan v Petrie for my third forward possie.

Both are extremely durable and had outstanding second halves of the year... with Brennan avg'ing around 96 for the last 12 and Petrie 92.

Re Petrie, I'm concerned that with H Mac in the side he will be playing more defence and possibly not scoring as highly.

With Brennan you never know.

Thoughts guys?

I think you'd be right about Petrie, he'd be playing in defence for the majority of this year it seems.

He and Hansen will be switching between CHB and CHF until Laidley decides who he wants where. If Petrie is playing CHB he will still take alot of marks as he reads the play very well, if he is up forward he should kick quite a few goals so I think he should still score well. Having said that, I currently have Brennan in my team and not Petrie

What made you select Jarred Brennan over someone like Colin Syvlia (assuming you didnt pick the Dee)? Both are priced the same, will both ge midfield time - that is the main reason Brennan's value rose sharply last season. Will Voss continue with Brennan in the midfield role or will have play him elsewhere? My concern with Brennan is that he must play at least 70% midfield to repay his value of $370 K.

6 scores over 100. Shows he has room to improve on his average from '08

That response is lacking in logic, nonetheless I also have Brennan in my team. Any Brisbane fans have any idea how Voss will use him in 2009? I noticed he played ruck in the NAB cup game which surely is not going to be a regular thing.

Harvey is the one I've picked initially, but after watching Brownie last night, I thought he looked in terrific shape and form. Could we see the return of his pre-leg break days? I mean he picked up 20+ possessions, kicked a few goals, laid tackles. I'd expect him to do the same most weeks as he's either going to push up the ground, or be a scoring focal point up forward now that Richo is playing all over instead of key forward. Didnt go near him last year, but he could be the unique pick who nets you a ton this season.
For some reason I'm turned off Steve Johnson. I had him last year and he was abit of a let down I felt. Gia seems the safest option to me too, but safe isnt always what you want ;)

Safest:
1. Gia
2. S Johnson
3. B Harvey
4. N Brown

Can you please enlighten me on how Gia and SJ are safer than B Harvey?

Gia
2004: 15 (73)
2005: 17 (86)
2006: 14 (84)
2007: 22 (81)
2008: 22 (93)

SJ
2004: 10 (74)
2005: 10 (63)
2006: 15 (67)
2007: 17 (94)
2008: 22 (92)

Brent Harvey
2004: 21 (68)
2005: 22 (85)
2006: 22 (92)
2007: 22 (93)
2008: 22 (94)

Both Gia and SJ have been good the past 2 years, but not compared to Brent who has been good the past 4 years (and far more durable). So how are Gia and SJ safer?

I assume he will only be playing more midfield. I think he's been working on his endurance pre-season so that he has a bigger engine for mid work. I could be wrong.

Brisbane supporters, feel free to wade in whenever you like.

Sorry I should have explained better. To me, six scores over 100 shows he has great scoring potential and just needs to get some consistency to increase his average. Sylvia on the other hand, had no scores over 100 so I can see him struggling to match Brennan's average this year

Not to mention that durability comes into the equation as well. I would choose Brennan over Sylvia anyday.
