Which Lobbe are we talking about?

The 2014 model would smash his body into Warnock all day and physically dominate the stoppages to make space for the likes of Boak and Gray to run riot. The 2015 model hasn't looked anywhere near beating anybody.

On paper you'd take Lobbe all day. But I think with closer analysis you'd realise the gap between them isn't huge.

Lobbe only really broke out in 2013.

Warnock gets a lot of taps because of his height, but his influence at the stoppages is nowhere near what Lobbe brought at his best.

Around the ground, neither offers a whole lot IMO. Lobbe needs to learn to clunk pack marks. It's a vital attribute for a ruckman in 2015 and he rarely does it.

Without looking at stats I would say Lobbe is way ahead of Warnock..

Why?
Because Ive never noticed Warnock do anything that impressed me!

Deep analysis is deep..

I know that's what I thought. Then when I thought deeper about it I wondered how close statistcally could they be? Take out tackles and there isn't much in it for statistical influence.

I agree Lobbe needs to take marks around the ground like big Ivan Maric did against us last week . It made him one of the most influential players on the ground in that game .
Lobbe has the height and strength but has buttery fingers

Well, stats don't lie, maybe the Lobster isn't as good as what we think he is?
No actually you've just proved the opposite.

The stats do lie.

Lobbe in full flight is a much, much more effective ruckman than Warnock.

We won the hitouts and clearances against Richmond, yet Lobbe was terrible and Maric was dominant, and I felt Richmond killed us in this area.

The stats lie all the time.

Hmmm maybe you have blind faith? I wish Portia was still here :)

Career best seasons to date.

upload_2015-5-29_16-1-28.png

For a while i thought Warnock was going to go to the big time. So did Carlton judging by his contract, but he just severely lacks presence and effort. stats for ruckmen are probably the most deceptive of all positions. If we want stats, supercoach ranking is actually a half relevant measure for ruckmen and career highs are 88 to 101 Lobbe's favour. I am far, far from a Lobbe fan but he is 10 fold the player Warnock is. If Lobbe doesn't continue with his 2014 form i can see relevance for this thread but watching games, there's just no premise. Lobbe is clearly the better player on the career best seasons. Lobbe is on the way up, Warnock is extremely inconsistent and at the peak of his powers already. Warnock is as useful around the ground is as Sam Gray is in the air. Lobbe has supreme tackling ability and the equal marking power.

in short Lobbe >> Warnock.

I thought this was going to be a thread about who our current players can be compared to (or their closest equivalent), such as:

Wingard..Bagshaw
Broadbent..Abernethy
Schulz..Tim Evans
Boak..Gary McIntosh
Gray..Ablett Jnr
Wines..Mark Williams
Hombsch..Delaney
Ryder..Hynes
Polec..Greg Anderson
