Senior Player contract status list

I don't think that either Burbury, Eardley or Sheringham will be at the Cats next year. And I still have my doubts about Walker's ability. A good athlete with a good fitness base\tank but I am not sold on his footy ability at AFL level. An ordinary kick too.

Edit 9/12/13 Ok, I got Eardley right and that's about it. Sheringham is a surprise.

Your reputation is at stake with that quote Daz.
I hope that it remains intact because I think that he is too talented to let go.
I also feel that since we have lost Menzel and Stevie J has moved the the center we have lacked a marking option other the the KPF's.

I dont often make statements about stuff like this and have done so with solid info. I can also be as wrong as the day is long.

I dont believe I will be.

And based on Cookie's interview on SEN today, we will be keeping Vets playing, young guys signed up and minimum ND picks.

Mmm , he said 1 or 2 picks. Not sure we can have 1.

I would have thought Balme would have been the more interesting one to hear toalk about it, but the clear impression cookie gave was that the Vets are playing well enough to go on and wont be pushed (it's their choice but form dictates you must be playing better than the youthful replacement), that the list is full and they are not looking externally too much to replace any position, and that also means a maximum of 2 draft picks ( whatever is mandated.) He also stated that they were not looking to trade for players, and that contrated players were exactly that....contracted. How that will sit with contracted players leaving i'mnot sure. And when Huddo asked about the sharks circling the VFL team with the success they are having, he was fairly confident that the contracts process was going well and that there should not be too many options for players to be signed away.

The biggest thing for me was the ND suggestion. Taking only 2 mandated picks. We could lose 3-4 in retirements. 2 spots for picks and 2 for upgrades. Maybe only 1 of rookies has to miss out and the status quo remains for one more year...

Could be interesting...

I think we have all ben saying that things are extremely tight on the GFC senior list.

That has always meant that we will upgrade rookies and only 1 of these count in the ND. We must take 3 ND picks so we will take 2 live picks - round 1 and 2 picks. That means, depending on extra picks available to other clubs, around pick 18/19 and pick 36/37.

To be expected. I still think we are box seat. Time will tell but im quietly confident we will be fine.

Have we updated this list because I read this...

Geelong has earmarked him as a long-term forward option and he recently signed a one-year contract extension.
"I want to have a strong pre-season and hopefully play some senior footy early next year," said Kersten, who leads Geelong's VFL goalkicking with 36 goals from only 11 games.
"I'm keen to stay here and I love Geelong. I'm Victorian-born. We moved to WA when I was about five, so I've got a lot of family here.
"I'm very keen to stay here and have a good career."

...and assumed it was common knowledge. But a couple of people didn't know about it.

Other than the Geelong Addy article is there anything else floating around? I'd hate to have put my balls on the block based solely on the Addy (with all due respect to that fine publication).

I have not updated list yet but have not heard offically from club either. Addy is where it was in print and my mail was it was being done so I concluded it was safely approved. But nothing from KP yet that I am aware..

Very interesting.

God only knows why the club would allow it to go to print without releasing something themselves.

Hopefully the Addy hasn't jumped the gun and caused me to tarnish my street cred.

I thought it was time for an update and to add the new drafted players.
I have also put the list in jumper number order 1-46 to make it a bit easier to read.

Some players have also been tagged as 2014 because their contract status is unknown. For example we don't know whether Walker and Burbs got 1 or 2 year deals (as Stringer did) with their elevations. Likewise I doubt the club would have given Bundy and Guthrie only 1 extra year, but as we have no info either way they are tagged 2014.

There is some conjecture about whether Varcoe is 2014 or 2015 as the club announced his previous contract extension but didn't confirm the length so we are not sure whether he has another year after this or not (we will know when the updated free agency list is released in march because he is a free agent if he is OOC).

All in all it shapes as an interesting year. We have an absolute stack of fringe players out of contract, who need good years to remain on the list, and a few key signatures we would want extended, such as SJ and Bundy and Guthrie, but the majority of the key players already have contracts for 2015 which is good.

great work mate!

Is there a definitive list available re contract situations ?

Player - contracted until 20......

Some of the more high profile guys have articles next to their names as the club has announced their contracts. A lot of the fringe guys we dont know one way or the other.

Is the OP updated and correct for 2014? just trying to get a list organised for the D&T board and couldn't find an updated list.

Yeah it is, been updated as much as I possibly can.

That said Geelong does not have much of a habit of announcing contracts for fringe players (read untried players who haven't played afl) e.g. Bews we only found out had a contract for 2015 when he mentioned it in a newspaper interview, club never announced it.

But in terms of our gun experienced players and gun young players, the contract status is pretty accurate best as we know, as most of those are based on announcements from the club and articles.

Buried in HUN today was word that Menzel has re-signed for another year on the main list for 2015 and VArdy has also extended another year ( not sure till when but adds a year).

Cant find the online link but it was in todays HUN in sports but at back. Meant to post this earlier..

updated Menzel and Kelly, didn't do Vardy because i searched and couldn't find anything
Herald Sun Sunday 15th June in sports section was the article that reported both Vards and Menz getting added 1 yr deals.

I never saw it online. It was a small piece near the back…..

Hope this helps…
