Maybe back then the deal was there and agreed on, but was working on the finer details? and only when everything is said and done they will sign.

I think 2020 and $ asking price might answer that one. If a couple of younger players push passed him then it could be his last. If he holds his spot and isn’t asking for too much, then he might get another year.

I reckon it will depend on both how he performs (many plus 30 role players have year to year deals) and also how we as a club fair which likely determines what direction we take ie rebuild or one more crack at it with this team.

I’d be thinking one more crack, but only next year. Then a few of the older players will be cut as we do a one step back for two steps forward mini rebuild.

I've just checked the newly released AFL Record Season Guide 2020 and Mark Keane (with # alongside his name) is shown as a Category A Rookie. Anton Tohill (with * alongside his name) is shown as a Category B Rookie. Madgen and Wilson are also shown as Cat. B Rookies, as expected.

I do chat with the book's editor every now and then, and asked if they could do their best to get things right in terms of correctly indicating which of the rookies were Cat. A and which were Cat. B, pointing out that last year they (incorrectly) had both our Irish lads shown as Cat. B Rookies (I think there were a few errors with players from other clubs as well).

So Keane is eligible for senior selection anytime we want to play him, while Tohill would need to wait to be elevated. Given that Keane seems more ready to play given what we saw of the two last year, that would seem to make sense.

There's only ten days to go before the SSP cut-off time (March 13), so we're bound to hear any day now that Lynden Dunn is back on the list. We are certainly leaving it rather late, but that was predicted.

West Coast have just added a couple of players to their list (via SSP). With the Beams' situation still not resolved it seems likely we'll be waiting until the Mid-Year Rookie Draft to add anyone else to the list.
