What would compensation look like for Mihocek and Elliot if they were to leave?

I guess between 2-4 of the older ones will be gone. As long as one isn't Billy.

Which would make it madness if we were to bring in a 34 year old May. And that's before taking his toxicity into account.

Plenty of under 25's.
100% agree on Jamie will be shattered. Agree on May.

I did the list just looking at players recruited from other clubs. Mostly have been role players we just can't seem to get any A graders.

I am disappointed we didn't get more games into the under 25 group.

But then all the "we shouldn't have managed/rested x, y & z" wouldn't have had anything to complain about.

And we likely would have had a few more whipping boys 😆

Ash Johnson going is probably a bit more of a sign we might be holding onto checkers?
2026 Mcstay is a KP defender?
The other delistings where pretty obvious.

i was shocked that Billy was only getting offered 500k per season for 2 years...maybe the media is wrong.. but surely he should be on more than mason Cox etc

I’d rather put some of the money towards Jamie and let Brodie go.

We have 14 players coming out of contract this year - wondering what everyone's thoughts are on who we retain?

Frampton is a no brainer - 3 year deal for me, reward his performances
Crisp - 2 years, easy decision this I reckon.
Saxena - 2 years, this could be a stretch, and no rush on it, but has shown a lot I reckon
Parker - 2 years, he's not setting the world on fire, but a good squad player at this point and still think he has a lot of improvement in him
Allan - 1 year, he's still worth sticking with
Howes - 1 year, maybe 2 if he keeps developing down back
Pendles - 1 year, if he wants it
Cochran - 1 year, on the borderline, but believe in his skill set
Membrey - 1 year, maybe a little lucky, but if he's willing to fight for his spot in the VFL if needed, the depth will help
Steele - retire, this is a tough one, but tough calls should be made
Howe - retire, another tough one, but will be 37 next year
Sullivan - delist, has given us a bit, but not sure he's up to the level
Ryan - delist, just don't think he's an AFL player, will go back and dominate the SANFL though
Smit - delist, contingent on recruiting more ruck depth, but seems a bit off it for me

I think we should start to extend some of the guys out of contract in 2027 too - starting with Anderson, Schultz, Steene & Swadling. Have 17 OOC in 2027 at this point

It’s an interesting thought experiment at this stage of the season - and fully expect that 2-3 of these will change both ways before the season is out.

Frampton is a no brainer - 3 year deal for me, reward his performances

He’ll be 30 by the end of the year, I’m guessing we’ll give him a two year extension for no other reason than his age.

Crisp - 2 years, easy decision this I reckon.

This is a tricky one. Other clubs would offer him a 3 year deal in a heartbeat, but given that he’ll be 33 at the end of this year I don’t think there’s any way Collingwood would do that given their list age profile. I think Collingwood would really prefer to put him on the 1 year deals, but I’d imagine they’ll ultimately settle on two.

Pendles - 1 year, if he wants it

Yep, that looks to be an easy one.

Players often don’t realise their own mortality and so clubs sometimes need to gently push them out. Of course we’re not there yet with Pendlebury. And sometimes that can be hard to tell: A 23yo takes a niggle into a game and they’re out of form. A 38yo takes a niggle into a game and they’re past it. That said, the end often does come quickly.

Steele - retire, this is a tough one, but tough calls should be made

This one is subject to the Pendlebury effect. Pendlebury has been long known to bend space and time, and he does it with the way we view Sidebottom.

In 16 other teams Sidebottom would be a club icon, but at Collingwood he’s overshadowed somewhat by Pendles. Pendles and Danger are the only two current players in the league who are more experienced than him.

And Sidey is still playing good footy and providing strong onfield leadership - which has been evident during recent games when Pendles has been rested.

I’d put Sidey in exactly the same category as Pendles - give him 1 year extensions for as long as he wants them … but gently push if he overstays his welcome.

Sullivan - delist, has given us a bit, but not sure he's up to the level

He’s gotten to a stage of age and development where if he isn’t playing at least half the games of the season then he’s an automatic delist IMO.

Howe - retire, another tough one, but will be 37 next year

It’s looking that way.

Membrey - 1 year, maybe a little lucky, but if he's willing to fight for his spot in the VFL if needed, the depth will help

It’ll become clear end of season. We’ve got McStay, West, Buller and maybe Howes. If two of those are reliably contributing wouldn’t seem to be much point keeping Membrey?

Allan - 1 year, he's still worth sticking with

Disagree with this one.

I think if we’re only contemplating a 1 year deal for a 22yo who has been on the list for 4 years (aand hasn’t had an LTI as an excuse) then we may as well delist him. ie: either him a 2/3 year deal or delist him. How he goes in the remainder of the season will decide which one we go with.

Ryan - delist, just don't think he's an AFL player, will go back and dominate the SANFL though

This is a strange one. Signed a two year extension mid 2023, played one game, and has never played since. Unless he comes in and holds his spot (who does he displace?) then we’ll be asking WTF was going on?

Parker - 2 years, he's not setting the world on fire, but a good squad player at this point and still think he has a lot of improvement in him

I reckon 1 year or delist.

Saxena - 2 years, this could be a stretch, and no rush on it, but has shown a lot I reckon
Howes - 1 year, maybe 2 if he keeps developing down back
Cochran - 1 year, on the borderline, but believe in his skill set
Smit - delist, contingent on recruiting more ruck depth, but seems a bit off it for me

No idea on these ones.

Thanks for the discussion.
Today changed things. Elliott 😢means three MSD options. We don’t need more vanilla, we need elite.
Frampton - love it. The most important. 2 years and triggers.
Crisp - Has a trigger for next year.
Pendles - Post match adrenaline maybe, but he ain’t retiring yet.
Sidey - He is a footy nut. He wants to play for ever, wants to play next year.
Sullivan - Out with concussion, played VFL today. Delivered. Should delist but we lack depth with games.
Saxena - just sign. He will make it.
Howes - sign. Low cost could be very good. 2 years.
Smit - there is something there. Sign 1 year.
Membrey - Always liked his play. Could change, back the young, delist.
Allan - wait. He appears to be improving but he needs more development. Confidence is critical. If he is signed 2 years.
Ryan - After time on the list I don’t know. Therefore delist.
