So Vince, Garlett and Jetta have apparently all agreed to new contacts according to the meeja. And yet here we are still with no re-signings in 2016. Getting antsy about this
I thought vince had already signed a new contract, it was being reported as. Still waiting on the cba probably

Going around this morning

Bernie Vince has re-signed with the club until the end of 2017. Chris Dawes is also likely to re-sign on greatly reduced money.

MELBOURNE has re-signed Bernie Vince to a lucrative new deal for 2017 after the reigning Bluey Truscott Medallist easily met a games trigger in his contract.

But injury-prone forward Chris Dawes is facing a massive pay cut in a development that could help the Demons retain star forward Jesse Hogan.

Vince was in the final year of a three-season deal after winning last year’s best-and-fairest and finishing runner-up in 2014.

He needed to play just two more games this year to automatically tick off another deal for 2017 but instead the Demons negotiated a new contract.

The former Adelaide midfielder has played 48 of a possible 50 games and at just 30 is in career-best form.

Dawes, 28 later this month, should be in the peak of his career but knee, hamstring and calf injuries continue to derail him.

His four-year deal worth $500,000 a season expires later this year with a savage pay cut likely.

He strained his calf yet again in February and is expected to return in the VFL soon, told by Paul Roos to be selfish and get his body right after repeatedly playing hurt.

Hogan has put off contract talks until the end of the season, with rivals preparing massive counter-offers.

While Demons CEO Peter Jackson says his decision will not be about money, the Demons will need to offer a contract approaching $1 million a year.

Dawes’ expiring contract is one of a number of factors that will allow the club to pay Hogan what he is worth.

Melbourne has spent years overhauling its salary cap to be in an aggressive position to lure stars this year or next.

It believes by building a successful culture and winning more games Hogan will be keen to re-sign on a long-term deal.

The Demons also need to secure young defender Tom McDonald, averaging seven marks a game but kicking the ball poorly.

Dawes faces a serious challenge just getting back in the Melbourne side that has Hogan, Jack Watts, Sam Frost and Cam Pedersen, with young tall Sam Weideman being developed in the VFL.

But he told the club’s website recently he believed he had a role to play.

“The team’s firing. They don’t need me desperately, whereas a couple of years ago I was probably playing through injury at times because I felt like the team really needed me out there,” he said.

“We’ve got guys who are playing their roles really well. In that sense, it’s not going to be easy.

“But I’m an experienced player and I’m confident in my own ability, once I’m conditioned, to get back into the senior team.”

Viney news was obviously fantastic but... jeeeeezus theres some talent STILL OOC in 2016 . Keep those signings coming dees.

Jeff Garlett
James Harmes
Jayden Hunt

Neville Jetta
Dean Kent
Oscar McDonald
Tom McDonald
Jake Spencer
Jack Trengove
Joshua Wagner
Jack Watts
Mitchell White

I'd imagine we'll announce the Garlett and Jetta deals soon, clubs generally like to stagger announcements of high profile players resigning. Jetta and Garlett aren't exactly top 20 players in the comp but they are big names for our club, it is generally only your bottom 10 players or young players that get announced in a batch of resignings at once. Was an article on foxsports that we're in talks with Kent as well but I've got no worries at all about any of our valuable players in that list leaving.

so we had a whole bunch of nothing and now Viney, Spencer, Hunt and Oliver contracts announced in quick succession. the optimist in me is thinking maybe the big contract we're all waiting on has been sorted and we can work out the other pieces of the puzzle.

maybe.
