Port never has the best timing.
Our last build was during those massively compromised drafts when GWS and GCS came into being,
And this rebuild is when GCS have compromised this and next years again.

When you spend 15 years rebuilding, this will inevitably happen. Maybe we should try being successful instead.

Lukosius signs an extention with the Suns - Power and Crows delusionists can now move on.

Tom Lynch has set the template now. Play out your early years with the suns on massive dollars. Once you hit prime jump ship to whichever big Vic club is currently most successful and chase flags

To be completely like South American soccer players, Lynch just needs to end his career at the Suns: "I owe them that."

When he's way over the hill and really should've actually retired but is chasing one last payday on reputation alone?
No. It is usually a bit earlier than that — past the prime, but still good enough to be competitive.

We actually timed our most recent flag window perfectly, when there were no standout dominant teams until Richmond's emergence.

We had the list, we just failed to capitalise on it.

Did we really have the list?

Yes.

Don't let these bloody charlatans at the club tell you otherwise.

We lost a prelim to the threepeat Hawks at their peak as a *genuinely* young up and coming side then added Ryder and Dixon over the following 2 years. Look at the sides that did win flags in that era, all very beatable.

We also had the Hawks on a ******* platter in that game and did a Hinkley.

i can’t wait to see the back of Hinkley but if we can’t accept it’s our players who have actually let us done in the big moments then we’re are just perpetuating as to blame as the selection panel, to busy ignoring the blatantly obvious.

If we had the list, why do you claim we timed it perfect by having our window in an era where there was no standout team?

Hawthorn had Geelong and Fremantle to contend with.

Richmond has Collingwood and West Coast.

Sorry, but a good list is one that can win against any opposition, not one that waits for opposition teams to fall over. As Hardwick said “We’re not going to wait for them to fall out, we’re going to kick them out.”

We had a list that was talented enough and well balanced enough to win a flag over several years in it's era.

It's a pretty simple concept.

You don't have to build the greatest list of all time to win a flag in any given year. If we'd played to our potential instead of pissing away entire seasons with poor strategy and mindset, Ken Hinkley would be a premiership coach.

Bolded the critical word above for you.

If KH "does a Hardwick" and realises that he has to seriously change, and does just that, it may not yet be too late for this group, and we may actually get start to get somewhere - it's all up to him.

We absolutely had the list, and the club expected success. Don't let the 'spin' doctors claim otherwise. Hold them to account.

The failure of our coaching staff to keep our guys trending upwards is no fault but their own.

We were so confident our list was great that our complacency over the 2015 pre-season was IMO the greatest reason for our failure.

Are you seriously now suggesting we didn't have the list after claiming ever year that we did and were a shoe in for the flag if we just followed Kenny?

It's funny how people view lists as being dynasty types after the fact. Looking back in hindsight, every team in the league would have won a flag if they had played to their potential - St Kilda and Fremantle know this better than most.

It's like Richmond - the nucleus of that team is the same as the one Port smashed in 2014. 8 of the players that Macca now rates as being A or B class players - Rance, Grimes, Houli, Cotchin, Martin, Reiwoldt, Lambert, Vlastuin - were part of that team. Were they A or B type players back then? Rance was an A. Martin, Cotchin and Reiwoldt were Bs. The others? Not a chance.

So it took them 3-4 years to become the team that you see today, adding players like Rioli, Prestia and Caddy to the mix. And why did they improve? Because near enough wasn't good enough - they weren't playing football for the recognition of being a tough team to play against, or to make up the numbers in finals, but to win flags.

It's not about building the greatest list of all time. Just the greatest list of your time.

I want a list that would be disappointed that it didn't win more than one flag. Since our inclusion into the AFL, these have been the premiers:

Hawthorn - 4 flags, 5 grand finals
Brisbane - 3 flags, 4 grand finals
Geelong - 3 flags, 4 grand finals
Adelaide - 2 flags, 3 grand finals
Sydney - 2 flags, 4 grand finals
West Coast - 2 flags, 4 grand finals
Richmond - 2 flags, 2 grand finals

Only Port Adelaide (2 grand finals), Collingwood (2 grand finals - the replay doesn't count), North Melbourne (2 grand finals), Essendon (1 grand final) and the Bulldogs (1 grand final) have won solitary flags.

What's the common denominator among all those teams? Players who were willing to sacrifice their personal game for the benefit of the collective. Can you seriously close your eyes and imagine the 2015-17 Port Adelaide teams, with the attitude that they displayed on the field, being included in that elite group, alongside the likes of Hawthorn, Brisbane, Geelong, Sydney and West Coast?

The 2014 team that had players that would run themselves into the ground to provide an option for teammates could have. Unfortunately, that team disappeared for reasons known only to the players.

Planning for a dynasty is the job of a list manager. Getting the best out of the list you've got is the job of the coaches, and we went from premiership favourites in the 2015 preseason to playing 1 final over the next 5 seasons.

Talking about viewing a list "after the fact" is funny coming from someone who has predicted flags year in year out and only now says that the list was never good enough. It was plenty good enough to have won a flag in any of the last 5 years.

I asked KT that exact question at the 'Meet Matthew Richardson' info session (what was our expected trajectory post 2014) and he specifically avoided answering it. These people need to be held to account. How they (senior coach, CEO, Chairman) have escaped accountability and criticism is truly unbelievable.
