If reports are true why the **** would you move to Melbourne for only 50k more a year than what port are offering. You'll be worse off considering cost of living plus that fact you're playing for a club going nowhere. If he does go with this deal it's clear he has no choice really and Port want him to ****off.
Maybe he doesn't want to take the hard road and chooses the easy option that is the Bulldogs, it can be spun anyway you like.

Mayes is a good low investment potential high return pick.

He's different to the other ones we've picked up in the past in that he's fully fit and hasn't been ravaged by injury or age like Thomas, Trengove, McKenzie and Toumpas.

Our last similar pick yielded us Polec (though he had injury troubles of his own at Brisbane).

Worth a shot, let's see if lightning strikes twice.
Would be happy if he didn't cost to much

Mayes played 13 NEAFL games and was named in the best for 6 of them. Never landed a BoG though. Reasonable, we've seen he can perform at the top level.

Apparently our favourite statistic - 'pressure acts', is lacking with him though.

Neafl makes the Snaffell look like god tier.

It still has GCS, Sydney and GWS in it. His best games were against those sides for what it's worth.

Having watched quite a bit of Mayes over the last few years. I actually like him a lot, he handles the ball really well, and is a good decision maker. Seems lost as a defender, and agree too that his move there was a failed experiment that has stalled him, and sort of left him on no man's land.

Voss and Rocky would have an excellent input into his worth at Port. As a context, he has clocked 101 games at Brisbane, which is not bad at all (Toumpas from the same draft = 37). Dropped to the NEAFL a bit this year, but IMO he is definitely AFL standard, and could fit into an AFL side given a preseason with a club, and played in position. At worst, we are short on depth at the Power, and the Maggies side needs experience. If he costs us nothing, then absolutely go for it.

So will be interesting to see.

Would like to see us recruit Willy Rioli so we can have a half forward line of Willy Mayes Hayes #majorleagueshitposting

You mean “Willie Rioli” the little fat kid that use to hang around the club and we with the best fitness gurus in the competition did not think he was worth the effort. In spite of him being more skilled than pretty much all but 2 players on our list.

Operation 'Get Wingard' has just kicked-off on North Melbourne's board. #lolnorf

Pick 10 for Polec and Wingard. We can keep the third rounder. ;)
