Just a hypothetical, say Carlton get a priority pick and it is pick 2. They are willing to trade pick 2 to us.

Who is untouchable if

a) Carlton don't guarantee they won't take Lukosius with their first pick
b) Carlton do guarantee they won't take Lukosius with their first pick

This would be a whole lot simpler if it was:

a) they want to trade pick 2 (they want Lukosius)
b) they want to trade pick 1 (they're passing on Lukosius)

Ebert should be playing in Sam Gray's lead up half forward position. He can run all day, presents as a much more likely target and can kick straight over more than 30 metres.
100% this, staggers me that he's never been tried as a lead up forward, he has his faults but he's a great mark and a competitive beast, would be better than Boak in the his role...

Speaking about our inside mids

SPP and Rocky both played their best footy mid year. We need them both to bookend that with good footy too though next season.

Boak I think finished the season well.

Wines played a good game the week after he signed his contract but apart from that I hated his season. Bottling the showdown in particular cost us dearly.

Ebert much too patchy and is just a role player now, a role player that most weeks doesn’t even have a defined role.
Ebert is a shadow of the player that set the standard at training. His will for the contest and high work rate was inspiring at times. He just seems to be going thru the motions particularly this season but also part way thru last season as well.

SPP has the hard edge we badly need. He intimidates. Every team needs several players like that. We have SPP and Dix. Sometimes he seemed to be the only player that could stick a good tackle. Good coaching can fix his issues and I hope he doesnt ask for a trade.

What even is Ebert's job these days? **** I hate seeing him in defence, especially in crucial moments. We play so many players behind the ball it's ridiculous and Ebert cant kick to save his life most of the time. We need anyone that can't kick to stay out of the defensive 50 where turnovers are so costly.

Imo Ebert should be a full time tagger or play somewhere along the wing or half forward/forward pocket. His marking is his strength and if he just kicked to a contest instead of hitting up individual targets, he'd be fine.
Ebert is a horrible tagger

Spot on. SPP and Rocky are crucial for us going forward if they can string together a full season of decent form. Wines needs to get himself sorted, hasn't grown in the past few years and has obvious composure/skill issues that need to be addressed. Boak is playing alright, think people expect too much from him based on his 2013-14 form in the midfield. He is a more than serviceable high-forward who for the time being is better than any other options we have in that position. Ebert is the interesting one - do we try and define a role for him? Has shown promise as an inside midfielder/tagger in the past, can mark well, tackle well and run all day. Has all the assets to be a great player for us but seems to suffer under the current system.
I’d just make Ebert a defender that can also go forward and nab a goal. Obviously his kicking out of defence is an issue (just bomb it down the line to a tall far-ken) but is a good tackler and a good mark so that might help when our backline is under the pump.

As long as we don’t have to rely on Ebert chipping the ball around at half back to a risky target he can play anywhere.

You guys talk about a culture of winning, perennial failures and this and that but aren't willing to make a genuinely tough call like moving a now long term disinterested Wingard on? He makes a shitload of mistakes, doesn't care all that much about footy and his currency would be worth more than his current output. It's not that outlandish if you were brave and a little bit crazy. We cant wait forever for him to rediscover himself. We do everything for him in an effort to get him right, we aren't getting the return for it.

Say what you like but we would/have/are considering it. That said, my money is on nothing eventuating from this for now.

Personally I would like to see how he goes with fresh coaches and gameplans but that boy is never going to be the dedicated superstar we all know he could be.

Spp is only being discussed here because c4 mentioned teams want him. No one is shopping him around.

Ebert isn’t the marking god people are confusing him to be

Yeah he can float in sideways into a pack and pluck one when no one stops him.

How many times have we seen him take a contested mark where a defender was on him? When he lead to a kick? When the ball was kicked on his head? He was literally in prime position to take the grab that McGovern stole to sink our season.

If your fine with Ebert taking a mark where he gets a free run at it from the side every 5 games great. His marking ability outside that is no different to anyone and he will get killed up forward where defenders chop him out and run off him all day long and in defense where I don’t trust his spoiling marking or kicking.
