Polec still cost us our #14 pick. We used the #21 on Jarman Impey and #45 on Mitchell Harvey both of who are no longer with us.
That's ex post facto logic. The Polec trade was: 14 and 45 for Polec and 21. So no, he didn't cost us pick 14.

The fact that our draft picks were busts is irrelevant to the trade conversation.

It's not ruthless to move on the most talented players in a good age bracket on the list it's idiotic.
I think Feel's point, and one I'm starting to agree with, is that we keep talking about talent on this list. But where is the ******* output?

At the end of the day Chad's a 25 year old 150(ish) game player who this year averaged 20 touches and a goal a game. He either sits forward for only 15 odd touches and a goal or two, or plays in the guts and gets 25-30 quick touches. And while those midfield touches are pretty good clearances, he doesn't really damage on the outside - he mostly chucks it on the boot to bomb it inside 50.

He still a good player - absolutely. But his output isn't really coming close to matching his "talent" - or at the very least his ultra-damaging form of 2013-15, and we're probably at the last chance where we could trade him for premium value before other clubs drop their offers to match his output.

Would I do a trade for a simple top 10 pick? Probably not, but it wouldn't take too much more than that to really get me thinking.

Dot point syles....(choking a lawn sausage at work)

I am glad Polec is gone.

I cant believe people are/where up in arms about trading Polly yet are more than comfortable to toss around names like Wingard, SPP and Wines for trade bait.

I would rather retain Ebert than Boak.

Cut the deadwood forward line.

We need a ruck.

Okay, and if we'd picked Zach Merrett and Ben Brown, we'd look like geniuses. Who was drafted with those picks is irrelevant. Basically this:

so we'll delist 2-3 fringe players? gotcha.
No, but you don't just dump quality players for the sake of it, or off one bad year. You want to dump Wingard because he doesn't seem committed? Or had a down year from last year? Westhoff spent his entire career looking like that and ended up carrying our side this season. North Melbourne were "ruthless" at the end of 2016, how's that going for them?

I realise it's only been a couple of days since our season has been officially over, but some of the ideas in here wouldn't be out of place on Facebook.

In my view no one should be untouchable on our list. We have shown consistently now that we are nowhere near it.

Wingard? if the deal is right... see ya mate. Same applies to anyone.

We can no longer fantasise about what these players may be. They simply have not delivered.

There are only so many on our list another Club would be prepared to chase so you're really playing with fire on that type of thinking.

Wines hasn't progressed, SPP looks to be going backwards, Wingard hasn't delivered what we had hoped, Moore was a dud, Butcher didn't meet expectations, Pittard had 1 great year is is now back to looking like a State League player. The list goes on to just about every player we have drafted or has spent more than a passing moment at Alberton.

At some point in time this Club needs to work out what's going wrong with the drafting and development and stop thinking that just moving on guys because they haven't made it to the level they probably should have is the way to go.

There are reasons why and just getting a shiny, new batch of playthings to ruin like we did the ones before, and the ones before that isn't the elite or correct approach. Before long players about to get drafted will start telling their managers "keep me away from Port Adelaide".

Probably happening already.

Kingy on SEN suggesting Port should trade Wingard. What drugs is this guy on? We have lots of problems, Chad Wingard is not one of them. As for all these claims that he looks disinterested I just don't see it, frustrated yes, had a gutful of playing with absolute amateurs probably but who could blame him.

On [device_name] using BigFooty.com mobile app
His comments are 5% on the money 95% ******* nimrod.

Wingard's not disinterested, he's frustrated beyond belief.

Not sure how people are happy to see the back of Polec but wouldn't entertain a trade for Wingard, who's output in terms of damage to the opposition is less than Polecs and yet hes worth more on the trade table. We could get some seriously good picks or players for him.

It's not that crazy.

He's getting by purely on reputation from what is now ancient history in football terms.

Can we trade our footy program which constantly fails to develop talent instead of you know guys with x-factor... you want this regime really in charge of "ruthless" ?

Wingard is still my fave player and players who are loved by the fans help draw them to the footy. Trading him would be a huge mistake and frankly some of the ridiculous suggestions i have heard of late make me shake my head. If we traded all of our top players then we would put ourselves backward even further by years even after Hinkley's contract is over. We need to keep the nucleus of our top players together and keep bringing in young talent. Off load some players absolutely and we will wait and see who they will be but not one of our top 5 players sheesh who bleeds Port.

Did the people calling to trade Wingard for underperforming stop watching footy just before Round 11 or something? Since moving into the middle he's going at around 25 touches and a goal a game. 100+ SuperCoach average over that time as well for what that's worth. Spud delist.

How many people need to say it’s clearly the game plan and coaching is the problem.

Wingard is one of the most talented players on our list and one of our biggest match winners, probably second only to Gray.

Should we just trade out all our stars and match winners whilst we’re at it ?

Wingard clearly isn’t being used right, so many times I see him do dicky little chip passes I50 that don’t come of when he’d 95/100 kick the goal himself.

Hi I was just wondering, with North clearly big into Polec, what would you consider fair trade?

I assume it'll be our first for Polec and then an exchange of later round picks.
You assume because you’ve been listening to the wrong people

The min we should take is a 1st and 2nd. It’s what we’ve paid for similar players and miles less than what treloar and beams got who are the most similar trades

Yep

Next year we piss Ebert out of midfield rotations and give his minutes to Wingard spp and few extra minutes to rocky so none of this 65% tog bull.
