Second Year:

What kind of player is he, a KPP, SF, tall HFF, HBF, inside midfielder, outside midfielder, what is he? I know it takes away the mystery but you need to know what kind of player he is to truly evaluate if he's a dud or a good player.

but I like the idea, stripped of names, people often loose their prejudices, I think people often judge players not how they play but what team they come from.

Well, all I can think of is:

Schulz
Merrett
Fisher
Maybe Chaplin and Pettigrew? I dunno. Couldn't find many KPF in the 2002 or 2003 drafts.

Without knowing the details such as which team (did he get quality delivery, was he competing with others for spots, how many games did he play, how much time on the ground, etc).

It reads like someone who hasn't shown much (if any) development over their first 3 seasons, leading me to one of three conclusions:

One: Physically mature when drafted.
Two: Showed 'a bit' and gradually increased # of games, but not increased game time.
Three: Unfit, and spent a lot of time building fitness base.

Given you said drafted 90's, I'm going to say dud - but seriously it could go either way, as there isn't enough info.

The player you all voted as a dud was Barry Hall and those figures are from his first 3 years at the Saints. It must be said that the Saints were not a struggling team at that stage as they played in 2 GF's in Hall first 3 years.

It seems that judging a player based purely on his stats early in his career is not wise at all. Imagine if those at the Saints in the late 90's had of followed the opinions of those here, then Barry Hall would have been delisted and never become the player he has. The reason I did not give a lot of info about the player was because I did not want any bias to come into your decision.

Thanks for participating

As was mentioned if the details about the player and club are removed and people have to decide based purely on stats it can lead to strange results. Look at the 3rd poll where I used Troy Longmuir first 3 years he improved dramatically but in the end failed to live up to his potential and ended as somewhat of a dud. Yet based on the improvement he showed everyone labelled him a player.

2 Grand finals you say? Was one a pre-season? cause that does't count.

And can you compare those stats to his last 3 seasons? Just so we can see the difference. I imagine they would be A LOT! better.
Saints played the GF in 97 and sorry I made a mistake about the second one  , still does not take away from the fact the Saints were a good team back then.

No doubt they are a lot better, the point of the excercise was to see just how peoples judgements of players in their first 3 years can be so wrong. If you knew how well Hall would have turned out in the past 4 years judging by his first 3 years then I take my hat off to you but on those figures without knowing the name most people labelled him a dud.

Good Work RT just shows that too much is expected too soon from youngsters these days ( u can thank Mr Judd for that ) But half the people in here would have had Barry Hall delisted after his third year .Some people are late developers some arent but if u havent won a brownlow by the time ur 21 your pronounced a dud in here.
